Yes, for a 'cherry picking' manner will take the truth out of context. A new serious seeker after God needs first to read the four Gospels ---recommending here an overview first at John 3; John 14 to see what is expected of us as professing a belief in God; then read daily beginning in all the Gospels, then Acts and the Epistles. One can then read once a week beginning in the Old Testament to see how God began a testimony on earth.
It depends whether one wants to learn the mind and ways of God, or just find a religion to feel good.
