I'm sure this speech will excite Democrats. Nothing more invigorating than watching an old man shake his fist and shout for 90 minutes.
House Speaker Johnson seemed to agree and clap along with quite a bit of what the president was saying.
It was really nothing more than a pompous ceremony that felt more like a campaign rally than a SOTU address.
First time seeing one? It’s always a stump speech for the administration.

Not sure what the objective was, but if it was to convince people that Biden is the answer for America's woes for the next four years, it was a dismal failure.
I think it did well to highlight the differences between this administration and the previous one that the right is insisting we go back to. The country elected a new president for a reason and the side that lost has nothing new to offer.

Every SOTU is the same. It is an opportunity for the President to tout successes and usually comes off as a campaign speech if running again. The party of the President praises it and the opposing party criticizes it.

I never watch for the reason that it is an evening of self aggrandizement.
Actually, President Trump's SOTUs, like his inaugural speech, were described most accurately by President Geirge W Bush on 1/20/17: " That's some weird _____."

I thought Biden had dementia? If he did, he should have been sundowning. While he was doing this speech But he's spot on.

It was filled with a compassionate, optimistic vision.
As history has shown, trickle down economics doesn't work but giving people the tools they need to succeed--education, living wages, healthcare--are what makes America strong.
His compassion--and courage--were on full display with his leadership in getting food and supplies to Palestinian children and women--targets of Netanyahu's genocide. He continues to lead NATO.
While I know many dreams are never fulfilled after SOTU, his track record has been better than most.
What a contrast to the former president's self-centered SOTU rants.
Sen. Britt was a reasonable spokesmodel...sort of like the Lessons in Chemistry TV host without the strong feminist brilliance and wit.
While she attacked the president's vision she had absolutely no Republican solutions. Most of their solutions are reminiscent of Marie Antoinette: Starving Palestinian children? Courageous Ukranians fighting their invader? Desperate immigrants seeking a better life? "Let them eat cake!"
That's their solution for America's struggling as well. "We can't afford to help you. It costs the rich too much."

"I know I may not look like it, but I’ve been around awhile. When you get to my age, certain things become clearer than ever before.

I know the American story. Again and again I’ve seen the contest between competing forces in the battle for the soul of our nation. Between those who want to pull America back to the past and those who want to move America into the future.

My lifetime has taught me to embrace freedom and democracy. A future based on core values that have defined America. Honesty, decency, dignity, equality. To respect everyone. To give everyone a fair shot. To give hate no safe harbor.
Now other people my age see it differently.

The American story of resentment, revenge and retribution — that’s not me."

The day before President Biden delivered his State of the Union address, House Speaker Mike Johnson, in a closed-door meeting with his Republican caucus, urged his colleagues to observe “decorum” and not to act like hooligans during the speech.

Many of his rank-and-file Republicans skipped the address entirely or left in the middle: There were 21 empty seats on the Republican side at the start, and 37 at the end

[Not to mention the several outbursts.]

...yea she stepped in it.

Biden flipped it back on her and the all those taking orders from you know who.

Joe and his Administration has lead the country backwards in many ways. Inflation is still too high, illegal immigration is a massive problem that Joe has done nothing to try to stop. The budget deficits and the National Debt is out of control. Joe and his people have done absolutely nothing to try to correct these massive problems.

Biden "You can't lead American with ancient ideas"
Does that mean the Constitution and the Bible?
Hate, anger, revenge, retribution are the oldest of ideas. But you can’t lead America with ancient ideas that only take us back.

It's like their policy on Helthcare.
Repeal and replace.
They were going to replace it with <placeholder goes here>
"Some thing beautiful and wonderful, the likes of what the world has never seen before"
They had years in opposition to think of a replacement, but it seems all they do is criticise.
They then get into office, and then they start thinking what this beautiful thing might be.
Lots of failed votes later and then Trump said 'Who would have known that healthcare could be so difficult"
So Repeal and replace simply becomes Repeal, Something that would have simply left millions to die in the streets without life saving healthcare.
Heartless. take away healthcare from the poor in order to fund tax cuts for the very wealthy.
Many Republicans voted to repeal. USA should have been taking note. Those Republicans should never be voted into office again.
Thankfully Repeal failed as there were a few straggler Republicans with enough sense not to sign a death sentence for the poor and vulnerable.

Well actually it was to give an update on where USA is at and where it is headed.
It seems that woes is not where USA is at, It seems USA has record lows in unemployment, in paygap between blacks and whites, has very low inflation in comparison to other countries in this post pandemic recovery that the world is going through.

It seems that yet again the Fox News opinion show hosts have been lying to their audience. Tsk tsk.

A neighbor pays $250 a month co-pays.
A friend could not afford insurance. He got Covid shot, then Covid.
His bill for ICU was $300,000.

I had a doctor before Obama Care. Now I have a nurse practitioner.
Obama Care is a failure for the middle class.

Joe and his Administration has lead the country backwards in many ways. Inflation is still too high,
Inflation has been a problem around the world in the post pandemic environment and in the shadow of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. But USA has done admirably well in this regard, being a country with one of the lowest levels of inflation in the world today.
illegal immigration is a massive problem that Joe has done nothing to try to stop.
Joe Biden promised to support and approve the bipartisan immigration bill that Trump and his scared lackey's voted against.
The budget deficits and the National Debt is out of control.
Trump's silly border wall, the financial cost of saving lives during the global pandemic are things that Joe inherited.
Joe and his people have done absolutely nothing to try to correct these massive problems.
Except as stated in the State of Union address USA's recovery is one of the best in the world.

And there are MANY people benefiting from Obama care.

Reviews from Wikipedia on Sen. Kate Britt:
In early March 2024, Britt gave the Republican response to the State of the Union address to President Joe Biden's State of the Union Address.[47] Her speech received mixed reviews, including from Republicans.[48] Former Trump aide Alyssa Farah Griffin called Britt's decision to stage the response in her kitchen "bizarre", while Representative Brendan Boyle criticized Britt's "overacting".[49] New York magazine's Intelligencer described the speech as "lurid and banal" and delivered with a "broad range of over-the-top emotions",[50] while the Independent noted that it was mocked online by journalists as "dramatic", "creepy", and "insincere".[51]

I read the address and did not watch it. I do prefer his vision and hopes to Trump's but I am also troubled by his handling of Israel and his strong "Pro-choice" stance. Trump cannot speak coherently. He rambles into nonsense.

I think he did well summarizing some of his successes:

15 million new jobs in just three years – that’s a record!

Unemployment at 50-year lows.

A record 16 million Americans are starting small businesses and each one is an act of hope.

800,000 new manufacturing jobs in America and counting.

More people have health insurance today than ever before.

Wages keep going up and inflation keeps coming down!

Inflation has dropped from 9% to 3% – the lowest in the world!

And trending lower.

Consumer studies show consumer confidence is soaring.

On my watch, federal projects like helping to build American roads bridges and highways will be made with American products built by American workers creating good-paying American jobs!

Thanks to my Chips and Science Act the United States is investing more in research and development than ever before. During the pandemic a shortage of semiconductor chips drove up prices for everything from cell phones to automobiles. Well instead of having to import semiconductor chips, which America invented I might add, private companies are now investing billions of dollars to build new chip factories here in America!

In fact my policies have attracted $650 Billion of private sector investments in clean energy and advanced manufacturing creating tens of thousands of jobs here in America!

Thanks to our Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, 46,000 new projects have been announced across your communities – modernizing our roads and bridges, ports and airports, and public transit systems. Removing poisonous lead pipes so every child can drink clean water without risk of getting brain damage. Providing affordable high speed internet for every American no matter where you live.

Actually, pay at point Heathcare is a dismal failure for the lower and middle classes too.
I had pay at point health care and major medical insurance for most of my life.
It worked very well.
And it was affordable.
It is a well known fact that when people are sick, they cannot work.
There were county hospitals for the indigent.
And the hospitals who became aware of a person normally able to pay was facing bankruptcy due to job loss and illness, usually wrote off portions of the debt and accepted repayment plans.
It was in the 1960's that hospitals became "for profit" and Obama Care created a very deep pocket, namely Uncle Sam.
