Ok, technical ones. I was in the altar. Behind the iconostasis.
I have been allowed behind the alter and I'm a female.;)
Decades ago I belonged to a tiny church in NY and when it your assigned weekend to do the vacuuming, you had to vacuum everywhere. I tried to vacuum in front of the alter with really long stretched arms to avoid any "Indiana Jones-like" melting scenes. I really wanted to swing the censor, but..... :D

My priest teases us about that. He went into the altar to get a relic to bless me with once when I was really sick and called me up there... I stood on the last step before being in line with the side door and he laughed and said come closer than that (from inside the altar). I stepped up but stood a good distance from the door. He was laughing and said closer...I ended up shuffling all the way to my toes being against the line made by the doorway and he was really laughing by then and informed me that if I took one more step fire would come down and burn me up :p

He's all in favour of respect for holy things but finds how the women of my parish treat the altar area kind of funny.

My SF is like that too Kyriaki :) He wanted me to see on of the Icons [ they are all painted on the walls , and you either like them or the other ] and the only way to see this one was from one of the Deacons Doors , so it took a bit of manoeuvering with him chuckling all the time :)

I am not saying that is rare, I am just saying that His Grace, Bishop MELCHISEDEK is very generous in allowing me to be there to photograph the ordinations as they are occuring.

Sorry this whole line of conversation was my fault. I just never heard anyone use the phrase "on the alter" in reference to being behind the iconostasis. Add to that with i and o being next to each other on the keyboard I just assumed it was a typo.

One Pascha Father forgot his three candle holder at church when we were having Agape Vespers at our chapel. I was staying in the monastery attached to the church and he called me and asked me to bring the candle holder. Well, it's situated on the wall in a holder that sits between the Royal Doors and the Deacon doors. Fortunately it's not a very long distance but I was literally holding on to the edge of the iconostasis and hanging inside the altar to grab the candle holder without stepping in there.

I'll never forget what I was told by my GodPapa

No-one without a GOOD reason is permitted behind the Iconostasis [ or using simpler terms - on the Altar :) ] .

This then covers those who have to enter - priests , servers , cleaners and folk hanging on to the Iconostasis trying to get the Paschal candle holder :D.

In my case just looking at an Icon on the wall of the Altar is not a good enough reason :)

I think the Bishops blessing to photograph ordinations is a good enough reason to be behind the Iconostasis.

Perhaps he's pouring it out (into the sink), not drinking it.

Or pouring it onto a roast that is about to be put in the oven. I always cook roast in beer, but most of the time use bock beer for that.

Haha, so do I. I never eat them. I think mine are destined to be brownies this year, because they're not going to get used for anything else lol.

I just ate a crunchie (choc honeycomb candy bar) icecream, that helped a little. A nice quiet, noone having a nervous breakdown period of time for both me and Andrew will help more I think. Please God.
