I used to love playing WOW but I stopped because, 1) it took to much time, 2) It was violent and used magic - which is against my Christian beliefs. I was wondering now that Spore is out, if anyone has a problem with it cause of its evolutionary theme, if they are creationists?

Well, the game promotes the Raelian belief that life began from some random meteorite crashing into the planet. It also promotes an Intelligent Design belief, which of course, makes no sense because we don't see organisms suddenly turning from dogs rather than the gradual cats coming from cat-like animals over millions of years and who came from cat-like-like animals themselves that we see and what evolution states.

In other words, it has enough in there to offend both views if you are easily offended.

Spore promotes crazy views of pretty much everything. For starters, you can completely change the appearance of your species EVERY TIME YOU MATE, you can create a world empire out of a gaggle of tribesmen by playing a digeridoo on demand, life suddenly transits from a single cell organism to a full grown land based creature without any time spent in between - there is no such thing as a fish, except there suddenly is, later on, though nobody knows where they come from. Possibly another meteor?

Anyway, you can pacify psychotic tribes who want to kill you because you butchered their families by giving them some fruit as a present and then playing them a digeridoo until they decide you're the best person EVER, and, and this is the best part...

...animals actually exchange genetic information between one another! If one species of animal becomes friends with another, they can actually trade genetic knowledge of how to grow a snout, or sharper claws, or how to spit poison. Also, every animal, no matter how stupid, is also capable of extracting genetic information from fossilized remains of dead creatures, so all you need to do is examine a skeleton closely and you will discover a new body part or two!

Also, did you know that sapient, human-equivalent tool user creatures don't actually NEED HANDS to create SPACESHIPS?

Does it matter? Here's my perspective. If you have something against violence and magic in a game, that's fine, just avoid games with that content (although you'll be hard-pressed). But I think you're going a little too far if you're trying to 'find' Christianity in a prospective game. Buy it because it's a good game, not based on how many potential Christian undertones you can find in it. Some of the best games out there have no explicit links to Christianity. Avoid violence and magic if that's your thing, but keep an open mind, and justify a game purchase based on its explicit merits, like a solid story, beautiful, detailed graphics and landscapes, realistic, sharp sound and fun, engaging gameplay.

Well, I have been playing Spore for about a week now... Must say I'm not impressed. I think the game centers around this creation mode. If you like designing buildings and creatures and UFOs this game is for you. Personally, I enjoy killing, stabbing, and blowing things up.

I found it funny when I first heard people had problems with the game because of the concept of Darwinian Evolution. The game carries notes of Creationism as well. In any case.. I will finish my game and develope a few planets... Maybe that part will be fun. It should be multiplayer. Can't believe it isn't.

If you should encounter a Secularian, run like heck! My creatures are tough and lethal.... And carnivorous.

Hmmmm... I can only conclude that, since atheists enjoy these sorts of things, Christianity is much better. I recommend you write a 12,000 word article on why you believe Christ is not God.

I didn't realize naturalist atheist was made the spokesperson for all atheists and that we exist as a monoculture with the same likes and dislikes. I must have missed the memo.

The game was ok but gets boring quickly, disappointed as the 2005 vid implied the game would be much deeper but it seems to have been watered down. I suspect this was because the game was redesigned for the console market. It's pity it had the potential to be truly ground breaking.

Speaking of which, Spore actually teaches that religious empires are the most peaceful and loving. See, if you act all hippie-peacenik-lovefest during the Tribal Stage and make friends with all your enemies by playing Woodstock music, you will become a Religious Empire, and that's the only way to become religious.

Have fun killing, stabbing and blowing things up. :)

Tell me about it. I'm limited on cash though, so I'm sticking with my Xbox at the moment, but that's OK. I've been perusing all the good past Xbox action releases, and at this rate, it'll be at least a year before I really need a 360.
