The accursed thing is in Ai.

ETA: The accursed things were in Jericho, not Ai.

My bad!

Man programmed it in our own image.
So why the evolution term?

This, to me, sounds like more evolution propaganda, designed to dupe the common people?

The implications are staggering.
  • A language model AI created proteins as good as ones honed over a million years of evolution.
  • Salesforce’s ProGen designed sequences based on the “sentences” of biological proteins.
  • Scientists are investigating whether the AI could identify treatment for disorders like rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis.

Artificial intelligence is a master of imitation. Every time scientists design an AI—whether to mimic human language or master a game like chess—it either matches or far exceeds the capabilities of its biological creators. Now, AI has proven that it can even master the art of biology itself.

Researchers at the University of California-San Francisco, the University of California-Berkeley, and Salesforce Research, a science arm of the SF-based software company, developed an AI capable of copying evolution itself. This doesn’t mean the AI created some sort of evolutionary superior superhuman (yet), but instead, the AI designed sequences of 20 amino acids that make up proteins. When compared to nature’s handiwork, some of the sequences worked just as well as ones generated over millions of years of evolution. The researchers published their findings in the journal Nature Biotechnology.

Interestingly, scientists didn’t design an AI from scratch, but rather, repurposed one from an unlikely field: a language model. Researchers used Salesforce’s ProGen natural language-processing abilities and focused on the “sentences” of biological proteins—essentially a language of amino acids.

Medical research is a clear benefit of using AI. Basically, the task of looking for patterns that work is long and laborious but automated it can be done much faster, more comprehensively, and more efficiently. This has been the case since we programmed our first programs extracting, transforming, and analyzing vast datasets. AI is not creating a new life here just coming up with new combinations of existing building blocks that have the potential for great benefit or indeed harm as in the case of bioweapon research.

Yes AI has been coopted as a propaganda tool. It is quite undemocratic how the most powerful AI tools are controlled by a bunch of billionaires in Silicon Valley. The AI is programmed with biases: it prefers Wikipedia and worldly consensus over the bible and Christian doctrine for example. The notion that there are always two sides to an argument and the necessity of not causing offense is preprogrammed. Deep Tech wants to make money out of conversational search but is scared of the legal implications of fake news generated by their tools, and fake imagery with legal implications and they do not fully understand the monster they have created and therefore no longer have full control over it. Sometimes the AIs are getting it badly wrong on simple factual questions, sometimes their biases give inoffensive but inaccurate responses and almost always the deep soul agenda is confused and dangerous to anyone who values truth and has a traditional Christian understanding of reality.
