I'm not a YCE but that is pretty impressive.

It's interesting how there have been 35+ views on this thread and no replies until yours. I know there would have been YECs who read the article, based on how many I have come across on the forum.

They created life from life? And not just that, thet got yeast from yeast. How is that impressive from an evolutionary standpoint?

My wife and I have created life from life as well, 3 times so far.

Did you read the article?

I read it but I didn't have anything to say in response because I am not qualified to speak about evolution. I fully support scientific endeavors in order to understand how to manipulate life according to evolutionary theory. What I oppose is manipulating life without honoring the one who owns it, I could have nightmares over that ;)

Wait, are you a YEC?

"Honoring the one who owns it"

By this, I assume you mean god? In which case, what are they supposed to do, thank god for the scientific endeavours they did?

Yes I'm a YEC with a twist: I believe the universe appears to be old and that evolution theory is currently the most reliable scientific theory for biology. I guess my concern is all about humans creating species that God doesn't wish to exist in His universe, such as the talking sea otter. I'm all for genetically modifying species to be stronger against pests in a manner similar to selective cultivation. In short, I don't oppose science at all, in fact I wish some of the YEC's that are impeding scientific research would step out of the way so we could discover a cure for psoriasis!

I think the point is that they a multicellular organisms from single ones.

Talking sea otter?? ^_^

I don't think God chooses what animals exist generally, as there are many horrible animals and virus', but how would you feel about scientists bring the mammoth back?

Well you know that this contradicts the Bible.

I'd love that, as long as we had enough snow left ;) Check this out:

I would love to see how they behave.

I'd love that, as long as we had enough snow left ;).

But didn't god decide that it should be extinct?

Also, I don't understand how you can say what you said about the yeast (lol, that sentence sounds funny). There is no point where a species becomes a new species. If my son is born with different shaped ears as me, he does not become a new species. Likewise, if a virus becomes resistant to a medicine, it does not become a new species. At what point do you say we have crossed the line?

Do you know that for a fact?

Clearly I don't understand evolution enough to know what I'm saying. I will have to do some learning and then maybe soon we can talk more about it.

Multicellular Life Arises In A Test Tube - Science News

Prediction of handwaving explanations:
"Humans interfered, therefore it's not evolution."
"This has nothing to do with evolution."
"It couldn't have happened naturally" (variant of #1)

Wow, I've never seen one of those. Paint it yellow and it would be big bird from sesame street. :D

How does this prove anything?
I'll have to admit you're right; it doesn't prove anything we don't already know. We've known that complex multi-cellular life arose from single cells for a long time now, but I guess the experiment still does provide direct evidence that can be observed.

Yes, we have known multi-cellular organisms can come from single-celled ones because evolution depends on it, and for the first time, we have been able to actually see it and know 100% that it can happen naturally.

I'd like to correct that: you make it sound as though we accept that multicell organisms arising from unicell ones must have been so because evolution would've been impossible otherwise. That's putting the cart before the horse. There have been a handful of plausible hypotheses on the evolutionary pathways of multicell organisms long before this experiment, it's just that nobody knew which pathway was the correct one that actually happened.

Yes, there will always be more than one hypothesis for something which hasn't been seen, like in this case. The fact now is that it is very likely that multi-cellular organisms came about in a similar fashion to this.

Just about all boxes have been ticked on the topic for evolution. The only one with a shadow of a doubt may be abiogenesis, but it is pretty much known. But then again, abiogenesis isn't actually evolution...

Yeah exclusive broadcasting rights hoo har. I really hope the media industry gets their strategy sorted soon, it's so difficult when our only option is to use torrents.
I don't know if it does.
Genesis 1:21
21And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

I'm pretty sure God knew what He was doing when He made everything.
