Having celebrated the Resurrection of the Lord this past weekend, I was wondering something.

Without making any reference to history, tradition, or without quoting anyone not authoring an OT or NT book, could the sola scriptura people please explain their means of determining the dates for Easter.

Thanks.

Might want to make a correction: Those sola scripturas who celebrate easter should answer the question; because there are some who might not celebrate it. Or is that only Christmas?

It can't be done.
Easter is not a Biblical holiday, so it can not be done.

just to check, did you know that Sola Scriptura teaches/says that all things necessary for salvation are found in Scripture?
so your question neither proves nor disproves Sola Scriptura.

Yes, not only is the question unrelated to Sola Scriptura, it seems to misrepresent the classical understanding of the doctrine as well. Adherents to Sola Scriptura have no problem with consulting extra-Biblical sources to determine matters not binding on the conscience.

It's Biblical according to the King James Version! ;)

No Easter because it isn't in the Bible?!

**Throws away the dogma of the Trinity**

Lets now all violate the Nicene Creed, call the Holy Spirit false, and throw mud at Christ![/really thick sarcasm]

This is why I reject sola scriptura...this exact reason.

Hehe. When I explained to my Baptist mother that the date that she celebrated Easter was based on Catholic calculation, she replied with stunned silence, followed by "well... that sucks!" (there was a lot of anti-Catholicism in my home, which made for a lot of confusion when I converted to Eastern Orthodoxy. To my mom, my new Church looked like the harlot of babylon, but we didn't have a Pope, so she didn't know what to make of it ;) )

Christ is risen!

What will she say when she finds out you have Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew II? Not that he is comparable to Pope Benedict XVI, but you get what I mean?

To be fair to my dear sweet mom, she has been a wonderful woman my whole life, and even though there were some pretty tense moments, she has accepted my decision gracefully (though I'm sure she's not thrilled) and still loves me very much. We have a wonderful relationship, though some topics are "off-limits" for the sake of peace.

That being said, I don't think I'll mention His Holiness to her any time soon. Even though he's not a Pope, and has no more or less authority than any local Bishop, I just don't see anything positive coming out of that conversation ;)

Christ is Risen !

You can celebrate 'Easter' at Passover

Actually, Easter in the East is celebrated on the first Sunday after Passover (which does not necessarily fall on Sunday). It is never celebrated on the same day if Passover falls on a Sunday (this is because we are to be separated from the Jewish faith). Hence, we just celebrated Easter (Pascha) yesterday
