Don't you think the lampshade is cliche?

No. It's just a lampshade.

Nope, i don't do Halloween of any kind. Nor skulls, nor cob webs, nor ghosts, goblins, witches, monsters, vampires, warlocks, Druids, tarot, hauntings, etc.
Based on a superstition of the dead rising from the grave to an inglorious 'life', it mocks the Church and her celebration of All Saints Day.

What amazes me is how all of this stuff crept into our culture and became acceptable and mainstream.

I don't much "do' halloween either. But I have some cobwebs. it's a Florida thing as I sweep 'em down and they reappear the next morning.
I have been known to fly this on the sailboat

We do pumpkins, and Mickey Mouse. We give candy to the very young, but after 8:00, we're done. Turn off the doorbell and go to sleep.

I agree that it mocks the Church, but a lot of things mock the Church these days.

you mean like a fascination with the "culture of death"?

It can be quite "charming", can it not?

You yourself call it "dark"....can you elaborate on what you mean by "dark"?

Thank you kindly.

Are you referring to me? Well even if you're not I'll attempt to elaborate lol

I guess I call it dark because it revolves around the night, death which as someone else pointed out is not always bad, and I don't know it just doesn't seem "light" to me, doesn't seem like Christ or like God. God IS light...so the fascination with things that seem to be associated with the dark (the spiritual dark, more than physical) seems to be a bit off kilter for those who are believers.

But this thread has helped me to see things in a little different light, no pun intended. I think of death or the fascination of it or whatever as "bad"...but why? Never thought of it...death is actually good for those who are believers. So why I'd think of it as dark, well is probably something the devil wants from me, really.

It's all definitely got me thinking.

Golgotha is the Place of the Skull. It's vitally important doctrinally, even if the image of a skull is more optional.

Some people do like to combine motifs that are both Christian and skull-related, e.g., in jewelry, tattoos, etc. I guess style-wise this is not unrelated to Gothic Victoriana, anyway.

Blessings.
