Friends are talking about this on Facebook today. Some of my friends have pretty elaborate routines for taking care of their hair & skin They're super pretty so it works for them. I just use Cetaphil to wash my face twice a day then I put on the Cetaphil moisturizer. I use Bath & Body works shower gel, shampoo & conditioner in the shower, then body butter. I don't wash my hair every day cause it's so long it takes forever to dry. I use dry shampoo & wash it for real every other day, unless I get sweaty. I like Clinique makeup. I just use the BB cream with SPF & powder. No foundation.

We have a pharmacy, Apoteket, in Stockholm, that has beautiful beauty products. I could not find the same products, whilst in America, last year. I think you can buy them online. My mum sent some to me. My favourite products are by Estelle & Thild. I have very sensitive skin, and their products, are gentle. I use their cleansing milk, to wash my face, morning, and at night. In the morning, I then apply their day cream. At night, I apply an oil. I use a simple shampoo & conditioner from Palmolive. I do not do anything special, with my hair. I just clean it, then dry it.

I do not wear so much makeup. My favourite, when I do wear it, is by MAC.

I crave scents the way other people crave sweets, and when I was younger Lush and Sephora were like candy stores to me. I loved the effervescent bath bombs and delightfully fragrant hair treatments and body lotions. Weekends throughout high school usually entailed cross country, equestrian, or tennis matches, and / or training for dance competitions, and I always would look forward to indulging in a luxurious bath soak with my hair up in an aromatic mask on Sunday nights to rejuvenate. I've missed that! I never really had an elaborate skincare or makeup routine, though, and it's become even simpler since I moved off to college. I'm limited on time and storage space here. Since I use a communal hallway bathroom, I bring everything with me every time I shower. I prefer products that have minimal packaging, and also ones that can be used in my room without water, and are multipurpose. My favorite products at the moment are:

Rose water - I use this to clean my face because it is very gentle, soothing, and it smells lovely. I keep it in the mini fridge in my room, and just pour some on a cotton pad. The coolness of it is very refreshing. If I'm wearing more makeup than usual I'll first use a makeup remover wipe, but most of the time this is sufficient.

Orange blossom water - it has the same purpose as the rose water. I also like having it in my yogurt, haha. You can find both bottles for under $3 at the little Persian market near me, or in the ethic food aisle at most grocery stores.

Smith's Rosebud Salve - I love it because it can be used a lip balm, to remove eye makeup, to tame flyaway hair strands, and on minor scrapes.

Solid shampoo and conditioner bars (from a local farmer's market, Beauty and the Bees, or Lush) - they are solid bars like soap and come without any packaging. You store them in little tins. I like that they don't take up nearly as much space as the big bottles, and they last for quite a long time. And they smell amazing.

Lush Honey, I Washed the Kids Soap - I like that even when you're not the in shower you can clearly smell it. :D

Batiste dry shampoo - it is inexpensive, and perfect for cleaning your hair quickly after a workout or in a rush.

Lush Full of Grace serum - it's also a solid bar, and it is moisturizing without being heavy.

As for makeup I also just wear a bb / cc cream most days rather than foundation. I love Supergoop. I'll add mascara.....when I have it. I ran out of it this week. My lashes are blonde so I look like I don't even have lashes when I'm not wearing mascara. Grumbles. I love the Urban Decay eye shadow and blush palettes, though I'm not that talented with using them, haha. I'm a painter, but I definitely am better at art on canvas than on my face. I like it when my friends do my makeup for me.

Haha, you can totally tell when it's midterm season and I need to distract myself from studies for a couple of minutes to chill out, because that's when I write crazy long posts online. :D

@Butterfly99 - We don't experience the same dramatic weather fluctuations between seasons in California like you do on the East Coast, but my skin does feel more parched in the winter. I've been drinking more water. I like the plain Jane Olay moisturizer that is like $6 and comes in a little jar. It's really moisturizing. That in tandem with the Lush Full of Grace serum has kept my skin from getting dry. Fun question btw!

Do you change what products you use in the winter from the summer? My face has become dry lately! My moisturizer isn't cutting it anymore.

Yes I do :) I had to change my moisturizer three times on a month! However, I take a treatment which dries the skin so it doesn't help. But the rainy and wet weather is obviously a nightmare for my hair! I look forward to a sunny and nice spring which will save my hair.

I struggle styling my hair when it's long, so I like it pretty short (usually just past my chin, but right now it's sitting at my chin). I have poor fine motor skills so I can't braid my hair when it's long. I also have a bit of sensory issues, and leaving it out drives me nuts. I had it in a ponytail or a 'top knot' which is basically a ponytail twisted with another hair tie. I like to add a cute scrunchie.
I usually brush my hair, put in a hair clip or hairband. I don't like doing my hair at all.

Skincare, I use this pore-cleansing cleanser, I don't remember the brand. I use a toner and moisturiser, again don't remember the brand. I use a heap of moisturiser and Grapefruit and Rosemary essential oils for my skin.

Make-up: I mix a slightly tan foundation and pale BB cream on my palm, then powder, then blush, then this bright Too Faced lipstick. I don't bother with my eye make-up.

I do have to change it, as it quite dry, and cold in the winters here in Sweden. I wear a heavier moisturizer at night, in the winter. I also try to drink more water and tea, as hydration helps.

hey girls, I was wondering how often should you get a professional facial? I've been discussing with my friends but none of them could really help me. What do you think, once a month maybe?

Never had one in my life. I'm too cheap.

Thanks for the reminder about Lush products! I should go stock up.

I'm interning in DC this summer and our apartment has an enormous steam shower, but no bathtub. Boo. My mom just sent me a care package that has candle tarts (cubes of wax that you melt in a warmer like the ones Scentsy makes) that smell like my favorite Lush products. Oh my goodness. Bliss. The Comforter lives up to its name. She also sent me their facial cleanser Let the Good Times Roll. It smells so delicious, and it makes my skin smooth.

In high school I used to get them every month, in part because I had a fantastic esthetician I enjoyed seeing. I do a lot of outdoor sports that sort of roughen up my skin. I also have a lot of peach fuzz on my face, and dermaplaning facials removes it. Now that my mom is no longer going with me to pick up the tab, I'm having them much less often, haha. I find that just going on a good swim in the ocean has sort of a cleansing effect on my skin, and it's free (so long as you don't have to travel to get to it).

My dermatologist and I get on very well (I even babysitt her grandchildren), so she always tries her best for my hopeless skin. I have indeed a lot of scarfs in the face, I used to cover it with make up but not anymore, got enough of it. I see her every month and that is always a nice moment. Now, the only problem is that such cares are not repayed and that my mother won't always pay for it. So half of my visits are paid by my own money, and I don't always want to expense everything for the doctor (clothes and books are still the most important!)
I think you should see with a specialist how many appointments are needed, he/she remains the better judge of that!

Anyway, nice to meet you! I hope we will see you often :)

I wish I lived on the seaside :sorry: I'm a bit afraid to have my skin treated by a stranger but I guess I'll just have to trust them

You could replicate some of the benefits of swimming in the ocean at home with products, or simply by using sea salt mixed with warm water.
http://homeremediesforlife.com/sea-salt-for-acne/

Be sure to apply moisturizer afterwards because it can dry out your skin. Lush has a popular product called Ocean Salt, but I've found that it's a bit too rough to use on my skin more than once every couple of weeks or thereabouts. I do like it as a body exfoliant, though there are less expensive options that work just as well.

Is Yelp commonly used where you live? If so, you could read reviews of estheticians on it to gain more confidence in the person before booking the facial. I've had really positive experiences with both the esthetician that I see in my hometown and one I've gone to near my school. The second esthetician recommends La Roche Posay products, which are readily available (at least in the United States) for a reasonable price. I don't have acne-prone skin, but was worried about potentially having breakouts because so many friends have gone through them. I started using this in the spring, but sparingly:
If you use all three products twice a day, it can cause peeling. I wash my face with the cleanser every other night, and use the toner a couple of times a week. She told me to wash my face with a gauze to gently exfoliate. On the other nights I use Let the Good Times Roll by Lush. I always apply a moisturizer at night, and one with SPF in the morning; both are also by La Roche Posay. In the mornings and after workouts I just pour some rose water on a cotton pad and swipe it over my face. The pack comes with a spot treatment, but I haven't needed to use it yet. My friend swears by it and this drawing salve called Prid's for breakouts. Manuka honey masks are also terrific, though messy.

That's great you're friends with your dermatologist. I've gotten a few breakouts that are awful. :( They only happen a couple of times a yr but always at the worst times. There are some good tutorials about covering it up.

I don't know any good products either so I'll have to ask a dermatologist about it as well. I do have a skincare routine but I'm pretty sure that what I do to my skin and the way I do it is not enough...
I haven't heard of La Roche Posay before but I'll look it up, thanks for all your help! :)
