That is why I say there is no such thing as freedom. We either turn from sin or go to hell. How is that freedom?

I guess I will never understand. But I will work hard at turning away from Sin but I will not say that I am free.
You are free to act. But you are not free from consequence, unless you are in Christ Jesus that is, and then He takes your consequence. Life in Christ Jesus is freedom on both counts.

If you freely choose to trample on Christ Jesus to the point that He is no longer able to hold you, then have you not acted freely?

I appreciate your quandry but I think you misunderstand the nature of the boundary that is set around us.

Christ calls us to life whereas sin is death. At the point where you speak of sin and going to hell are you not asking why Christ would not set you free to die? He does not redeem us for death, rather He sets us apart for life and we are free to live. If we wish to seek death then we are free to do this also but then we will be dead and no longer able to act either way and so loose all freedom.

If we keep our eyes on Christ and who He is; In him is life, and that life is the light of all mankind; then we are truly free in both action and consequence.

Whats the point in not sinning if Jesus forgives everything ?

The one that sins is not of God. You can not walk in sin and say you love Him. If you are of Him you do not want to sin. Now we all sin.. we all fall.. but we desire not to sin not to fall. But we WILL get temped and trials yet.. we confess our sins He is faithful to forgive us and cleans us from all unrighteousness.

So if you freely want to knowingly walk in sin and say you are a believer you are not of God the Father but of this world. There is no light in you. Were talking FREELY KNOWINGLY walking in sin. If you are of God you never want to walk in sin. You never want to miss it. You always want repent.

And Matt 22:37-40. All the law hangs on those. If you again love Him you do not want to sin. But this flesh LOVES to sin.. He knows this.. that whey HE died.. if HE is in you.. you again never want to sin. That battle with in you.. you do the things you dont want to do and the things you want to do you dont do. Repent dust off keep going. Jesus fulfilled.. there is SO much there in just that so many miss

Hey, can you get to this post by chance...?

Do Jesus words trump the apostles or anyone else's, that might be in conflict or contradictory...?

God Bless!

It's to get people to think, SaintNick. Which is why my avatars are always accompanied by a 'blurb' that provides context. That's how you have to 'read' the pictures I choose to place into my avatar. Thanks for asking.

Jesus says narrow is the way that leads unto life and FEW be there that find it.
The reason why Jesus said to the one believer in Matthew 7 to depart from him was because he had a mix of wonderful works + iniquity (sin). Remember, the Luke warm church is spewed out Christ's mouth.`

Most I talk with today believe in some of Eternal Security or a sin and still be saved type gospel on some level. Some say you can sin as much as you like and be saved. I have talked with these people both online and in person. Then there are those who are a little harder to spot. They believe that a believer must generally live a holy life but they believe that a saint dying in one or two unrepentant sins (like lying or lusting after a woman) does not mean they are not saved. Meaning, God can save His people in a rebellious state as long as they lived a holy life generally. But I see no evidence of this kind of belief in Scripture. Yes, Christians can struggle with sin, but in time they will mature and overcome their sin in this life. Grace is not a license to sin but it is a means to overcome sin (Compare Jude 1:4 with Titus 2:11-12).

Yes, this is it. Most Christians do not fear God to turn away from sin. Their idea of turning from sin is only optional. They might even tell you that they seek not to sin but then they will later turn around and say they cannot help but to sin because of some uncontrollable human nature. Most today believe they cannot stop sinning serious sins at some point in this life by the power of God. Therein lies the problem.

I think we agree. Well, I hope so. I believe Sinless Perfection is the goal of a believer's Sanctification process and it is not a salvation issue. However, a believer cannot deny that they can overcome serious sin in this life at some point in this life by the power of God (because that is what Scripture teaches). This does not mean their free will is no more and they do not have the potential to sin again. It simply means they have chosen a path with God to crucify the affections and lusts.

Sinless Perfection is dealing with putting away minor faults or transgressions and not the putting away of serious sins. Serious sin can be put away today by a believer if they truly repent. But it takes time for a believer to know and learn about minor transgressions by studying God's Word by the Spirit.

Last October I had put away watching worldly movies and TV shows. I used to be a huge Marvel comics fan and Star Trek fan. It was not easy, but I did so by the power of God and by the fact that Marvel films had gotten darker spiritually (Like Deadpool, Doctor Strange and Logan). Many of these films and shows have many ungodly and sinful messages and things within them. You put garbage in and you get garbage back out. Even while I watched primarily superhero films, I would stay away from films that dealt with magic. Why? Because the Bible condemns magic or sorcery. Magic is witchcraft and it is a serious sin to God. For is it not a sin to watch porn? How about watching a show that shows people getting killed live all the time? I would say that watching such sinful things by choice woud be wrong because you have to silently approve of such sins on some level in order to watch them (by choice).

Baggy pants? That is a new one.
I would say that dressing in such a way that makes you look evil would be wrong.
If you dress like you are a part of a Satanic cult, then that would be different.
Paul says not have any appearance of evil.

I would agree that it is sinful and wrong to watch sinful shows.
Do you not think it is wrong to watch porn?
What about other shows that promote sins that are just as equally bad and wrong to God?

This is is biblical.
You walk the straight and narrow and other believers will attack you for it.
Jesus said this would happen.
The children of the bond servant persecuted the child who was free.

I will send you two CF thread links that you may enjoy on this topic later.
May God bless you, dear sir.
And may you please be well.
Please alway stay strong in the power of His might and goodness.

...

Thank you very much for being truthful with me without condemning me. I really appreciate it.

I'm glad to know that it is a good thing to fear God's Wrath. I am sure as I seek him that won't be the main reason though.

Yes I do agree that watching porn is sin. That is actually the send that I have a problem with the most. But I have decided to walk away from it. I do not want it die. Jesus said that eagerness for lustful pleasure defiles us.

So yes I guess my goal should be sinless perfection.

I just pray and hope that he enables me to turn away from sin for good.

John 8:32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

John 8:36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

Heaven is not some far off place, but WITHIN each and every one of us IF we (seek and )find HIM. We need to look in the right place and by HIS spirit HE will reveal it. It is not something we can do ourselves. With man it is impossible, but with God ALL things are possible. The battle is flesh against spirit but HE has already won the victory...we just have to BELIEVE it to be true or it will never happen.

Jesus came to set us free from sin and HE also promised LIFE abundant! HE promises to give us peace that passes all human understanding and joy that bubbles up from deep inside...if we truly drink from HIS living waters.

John 7:38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”

John 4:14 But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Maybe you are not drinking from the right spring??

1 John 5:10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

The battle is real, putting that sin man to death (flesh) for it is contrary to the spirit. But if we continue on if genuine faith, the Spirit will prevail and the battle cease...and all the promises contained in his word be real in our lives...IF we believe it will be so. Anything less is unbelief...

John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

We just have to BELIEVE it is true...We must wakeup to what was before Adam was place in a deep slumber and blinded to, when he walked only in the Day...Ephesians 5:14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

You may be right. I may not be drinking from the right spring. That's probably why I don't have a good attitude. I'm going to pray that God changes my attitude. I don't always understand his ways, but I know if I seek it he will give me understanding.

Thank you very much. I can tell that you spoke the truth with love and not condemnation, and I really appreciate that.

But you actually made a very good point. It's like this. I am free to rob the bank, steal from the store, and go on a murder spree, but I am not free from the consequences of my actions. I am free when I am out of jail. But if I murder somebody, I lose my freedom. And that's what sin is. I am free to sin. I am just not free from the consequences of sin. I'm actually starting to understand.

I know this is probably obvious to a lot of you, but I'm not a very intelligent person so something that's very obvious is not always obvious to me.

So I get it now. Thank you very much.

Thank you very much for being truthful with me without condemning me. I really appreciate it.

It is my pleasure.
Also, I seek to attack the belief and not the person (even without a forum rule telling me to do so). For I seek to love and do good to all (Including those who appear to be my enemies).

You said:

I believe there are different ways to overcome sin by God's Word and with the help of Jesus.
  1. Remove yourself from sinful environments (if possible) and or get rid of things that cause you to sin. In Genesis: Joseph had literally ran away from the temptation of sexual sin.

  2. Pray to God so as not to be tempted. It is part of the Lord’s prayer for you to pray so as not to be tempted into sin. God will guide and protect you if you are serious in praying for this. In fact, fasting will help you with this, as well.

  3. Obey God’s righteous ways. The more you love God and love others and obey His Word and stay in His Word and pray, the more you will not even have a chance to sin or do the wrong thing. But the more you walk in God's Word by the Spirit you will not fulfill the lusts of flesh.

  4. When you are tempted, quote Scripture. When Jesus was tempted by the devil, He quoted Scripture to defeat the devil. So when some specific sin is bothering you, find all the verses you can that are victory verses over that particular sin. A good general verse is, “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.” You can say these verses to yourself silently under your breath (with nobody hearing).

  5. Ask for prayer from other God fearing Christians or Godly Christians to help you to overcome certain sins. The Scriptures say, bear ye one another's burdens and thus fulfill the Law of Christ. So seek true fellowship and ask for their help.

  6. Hide God’s Word in your heart. Memorize Scripture. David said he hid God’s Word within his heart so that he may not sin against the Lord.

  7. Confess of your sins. 1 John 1:9 says if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

You said:

I just pray and hope that he enables me to turn away from sin for good.

On another Christian forum I was on before, you could not edit your post after 3 minutes.
It was a little frustrating because there were many typo's I made at that forum that I could not fix.

As we are human we are not capable of not sinning. So stop all of this and accept God's grace.

This is simply not true.
Jesus said to two people to "Sin no more." (John 5:14) (John 8:11).
1 Peter 4:1-2 says that if we suffer in the flesh we can cease from sin; And that we are to not live the rest of our time here on Earth to the lusts of the flesh, but to the will of God.
Galatians 5:24 says that they that are Christ's have crucified the affections and lusts.
The 144,000 were found without fault before the throne of God; This was in context to their righteous actions or holy lifestyle (See Revelation 14:3-5).

There are two kinds of Christians today.
Those who seek to justify sin on some level and turn God's grace into a license for immorality (See Jude 1:4 NIV) and those who believe they can overcome their sin by God's power. For the true grace of God teaches us to deny ungodliness and that we should live soberly, righteously, and Godly in this present world (Titus 2:11-12).

I mean, when you read the following two verses in your Bible, what do you do?
Do you ignore them?
Or do you seek to change them to say something else?

For it is written,

"His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord." (Matthew 25:23).

"And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." (Matthew 25:30).

And the thing is that there are many other verses like these two elsewhere in the New Testament. Surely if one believes in a sin and still be saved gospel, one has to either:

(a) Ignore them (or)
(b) Change them to say something else.

But what determines spiritual death?
Is it just one sin or lots of sin?
I am not sure that a believer can truly fear the Lord if it only took lots of sin to separate a believer from God. I see in Scripture single acts of sin causing a separation between God and man. Adam caused a separation between God and man by his one sin. Ananais and Sapphira both lied to the Holy Spirit and they died and went to hell. For a great fear fell upon the church and all who heard about their deaths. Peter told Simon to repent of his wickedness of trying to pay for the Spirit. Peter told Simon that he should pray to God so that He may forgive him for such an evil thing. Jesus says a person is in danger of hell fire if they look upon a woman in lust. Jesus says if we do not forgive, we will not be forgiven by the Father. John says if we hate our brother, there is no eternal life abiding in us. It only takes one moment of hate towards a brother in order to hate one's brother. I believe all this is why we are to work out our salvation with fear and trembling. Scripture says, we are to cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. Scripture says, Perfect love casts out fear. Yet, Scripture also says that our love is perfected by keeping His Word.
