  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

And some Christians might even positively want to use a faith based tattoo as a witness out of love for the Lord. This might not be your thinking, but it goes to show that in so many areas Romans 14 liberty applies.
again a cherry plucked verse perversely out of context, to prop up your ungodly preference in self mutilation and bodily fleshly glorification in opposition to seeking FIRST the kingdom(governmental rule ) and righteousness of God -which you seem to have so little regard for .

this is advice based upon your own will without any acknowledgement for the will of the Spirit of the lord Jesus .it is not about being compelled but about love . he says acknowledge the lord in ALL your ways and HE will direct your paths . not go and do what ever you want and then try ahrd to justify it after the fact . that is neither love nor obedient now anything but flesh motivated rebellion -quite the opposite to love .its not about tattoos but about love for the lord Jesu who says if you love me you obey me .. noy if you love me just go do your own thing .. those who do as they will have strayed from HIS way .
as it is written al we like sheep have gone astray we have turned every one to HIS OWN WAY .. as long as your following you own way .your not following the lord Jesus .

as i have already stated - the op has a tattoo they regret . they need not be concerned with it at all, either cover it up nor to give it any regard , but rather they should rejoice in that they are made a new creation christ Jesus . they can used it as a reminder of the mess we make when we go astray and advice others not to make the same errors.

it is as far away from "christian advice" to encourage people to act like the world acts . the spirit of this world is at work in the children of disobedience not the children of obedience .
we know from the word of god what is pleasing to him , we know from the essence of his words that marring our body (which is become HIS temple not our own ) is not pleasing to him . and we do not try to displease one we love rather we set out with lobe in love to please the one whom we love .
And I guess my point also was that love for the Lord might well for some Christians be their motivation for using a faith based tattoo for His glory in witness.

Everyone has different opinions, and that's perfectly fine. We aren't going to agree with each other, not all of us. If someone wants to get a tattoo, then they can get a tattoo. There isn't anything wrong with it. You can still have a tattoo and love God, so long your reason getting the tattoo isn't for secular reasons or to draw attention to yourself. Just because someone gets a tattoo doesn't mean they don't love God. As I said, we all have different opinions.

Sir, I have not used derogatory terms to address you; my point is, just consider that love for the Lord might well for some Christians (clearly not for you yourself) be their motivation for using a faith based tattoo for His glory in witness. Blessings.

why do you not see as important, seeking gods will in the matter above all else but instead seek first to do as the world does and be like the world -consider in contrast the instruction to "not be conformed to the world ".

What I would ask you to consider is whether for some Christians (not you yourself) it might be respect for the transforming power of the Lord and love for Him that motivates them to use a faith based tattoo for His glory.

i consider that JESUS SAID love for him is displayed ONLY in obedience to him , not in self will . and thus it does not matter WHAT they outwardly DO in the imaginations of their own mind . it is never love for him to place ones own will and desire over the top of his . you cannot serve two master JESUS said. he says you will cling to one and despise the other . what you promote as clinging to the worlds ways in tattoos is despising Jesus by not even seeking to know his will in the matter .
its as far from love as one can get

So just because someone gets a tattoo they don't love Jesus, or that we despise him? First of all, we don't even know the person. We don't know what they went through, we don't know their testimony. I've know dedicated Christian's with a tattoo or two, and their past was pretty heavy and dark stuff. Their tattoos could mean something. Just because someone gets a tattoo doesn't mean they are dedicating to the secular world, it doesn't mean they are materialistic and focusing their attention on worldly things. Now, if all you ever wanted to do was "buy buy buy" rather than give, or had this materialistic view on worldly things, then yeah it would be a problem. Not everyone is going to agree with you but your opinion is respected, so long you are respectful yourself, but by the looks of it you are coming across as rather rude and trying to force your opinion in front of everyone's face and as the "right" opinion. No opinion is ever right. An opinion is an opinion, and as far as I know there is nothing sinful about getting a tattoo.

This may well be your interpretation. It would not be every Christian's interpretation. For example, leaving aside likes and dislikes, aesthetic preferences, etc., a Christian young man going into the military might well get a faith based tattoo, which he knows will be with him in the barrack room; his motive and other Christians' motives might be different, but one can respect his motive as well as other ppl's motives. Or a Christian young woman who gets a <>< sign done, in order to witness to her friends, might not be everyone's choice, but one can respect her motives, at least.

Will address your question after you answer mine to you.
in the context of one who claimed to be a disciple of the lord JEsus who then (Afterwards) gets a tattoo ....
if you have a building(temple ) in which you dwell and which your redeemed unto yourself and immeasurable cost of the blood of your only begotten child and some one comes and tags it with paint and graffiti- because they like it and think it is a good idea or "its cool " -without ever consulting your will on the matter - would you not consider it " marring " .

you'd lie to say you wouldn't -in truth you would not be pleased at all . not so much because of the markings, but that the person held you in such low regard, as to not even consider your will on the matter . but rather despised you .

Some might indeed regard it as marring; others might even regard a tasteful faith based tattoo as an enhancement with witness value and potential.

again we are not speaking of the op .. we are speaking of one who is already christ's (for you are not your own but are purchased -so it is written so it is ,)

as i have said the tats some one gets before they are christ's are of no consequence now what so ever -they need not give them another thought . but rather use them to remember what the lord has saved them from and warn others to not make the same error. life in christ is about loving him and obeying him . so NO ..one who goes and gets tats without ever caring to know his will- they do not display any love for jesus- only contempt .
it is a case of ,do as you will .. rather then Lord, thy will be done.

i promote love and obedience to Jesus -if you consider that imposing "my will " then you may need to reconsider your perception of faith in Jesus . for repentance itself is changing your mind and committing to going HIS way not our own

LizzyMae:

I would be in general agreement with what you say, to a large extent.

So would something like the very small design in post #171, above, (still) be against your beliefs?

only those who don't care a fig for the will of the Holy Spirit
Some might say that a Bible ref. tattoo worn by a young Christian in a hostile world might even be the sign of someone who is spiritually minded.

It would may or may not be. I can't really say right now, not without praying about it. I also have to consider my environment where issues could arise if I were to get it, work for instance. Many places do not care for exposure of tattoos and require you to cover it. I don't know about you but wearing a long sleeve shirt during summer time in Texas is very toasty! lol. There is just a lot to consider, how it would affect things, and most importantly whether or not I feel like it is something the Lord would want for me to do. If I do not have His consent, then no money will be spent!

(I just made that up on the top of my head too hehe, isn't it catchy?)
