One of the things a Catholic Priest told me, was that I should research my name--its history, its meaning, and other translations of it in other countries. The reason for this, is that you might be named after a saint indirectly--one who shares your same name or the meaning of your name. My name (the one I was also baptized with) is Derek. After doing a little digging, I discovered that the Catholic Church had a few saints named Theodoric. This name was the original form of Derek. It means 'Ruler
of the People'. Also--the modern German equivalent is Dietrich (French is Thierry).
So it is possible that I wouldn't have to pick a Saint then. Personally, I always wanted a Thephoric name (a name that has God in it like Raphael, Michael, Daniel, Samuel, or Eljah, Joshua, John).
