but why not just set the age of consent to 21?
But why do that when, quite obviously, kids younger than 18 are having sex?

And how would you enforce that age limit when the current age limit is not enforced?

Better to educate kids and equip them for adult life than create yet more pointless legislation.

Let us look at just one statement of yours and compare two third world countries, mine and yours. In yours the mother's mean age at first birth is 27.3 years and mine 30 years.

Who waits longer?

True...think drug laws. So much legislation.

Did you seriously just perform thread necromancy on your own thread with the same question that you asked three times in a row in the original post?

A triple offense in one sentence...

Raise the age of consent to 120 and we will all be gone in 120 years, right? OP must be a child.

Decreasing world population... I've heard that one before... sounds satanic to me and I would question the morality of anyone suggesting that. Let nature run it's course, Jesus will be back soon anyway.

But why have laws against murder, when, quite obviously, people are murdering one another?

And how would you enforce that laws against murder when the current laws against murder are not stopping murder?

Why should we have any laws at all, when, quite obviously, some people will break laws?

Why should we have laws against under age sex?

Because more than 90% of people will obey laws, that why.

and that is why we should just set the age of consent to 21.

Because it will not work. In many places it is 18 and teenagers still have sex at 16 or 17, some as young as 14 (or younger). Making the age of consent 21 will not stop it, nor will it slow the birth rate in most developed countries since the average age of giving birth is higher then 21 (in UK it is 30).

Plus, you would have to get so many third world countries to pass and enforce that law to see if it will make a dent in population growth that it is near imposible to do. It would be easier to bring up the industral levels of those countries since that has a more profound effect on birth rate.

I can tell you that it is not as high as 90% when it comes to teens not having sex. You are lucky if it is as high as 50% (which is why some states in the US lower it to 16).

Should the age of consent be set at 21 to help reduce the world population?

Should the age of consent be set at 21 to help reduce the world population?

Should the international age of consent be set at 21 to help reduce the world population?

In third world countries such as Africa and in England,

teen age pregnancy rates are extremely high and

most of these girls end up living on hand outs and welfare their whole life.

So isn’t it time the international age of consent be set at 21 all over the whole world

to help reduce the world population?

some of those girls aren't 18 to begin with raising the age wont stop it, itll just be illegal for them to do, plus how do you police that in countries where people move out before then and are living alone.
we need to teach kids why sex and children are bad until your ready.

And just how in the hell is that going to work? Other than maybe a token few, who will obey that law? And how would you enforce it?

If you want to slow global population growth, or even reverse it, the single best way is:

Education. Specifically, education of women.

Once women have access to education, there is a general tendency for them to move into the workforce. This grants them financial and social independence and access to more economic resources/economic power and reduced dependency.

With access to economic resources, women tend to have fewer, but healthier children. Their children also tend to have fewer and heathier children.

Female education is a positive feedback loop for the entire society.

If you're looking at other methods to reduce population growth, then your best bets are:

Increase contraceptive availability (also has major benefits for general societal health);
Move away from traditional marriage patterns, particularly early and arranged marriages;
Improve overall economic performance;
Reduce infant mortality rates (this is somewhat counter-intuitive, but if babies are more likely to survive, there is a general tendency towards lower numbers of chiildbirths);
Improve literacy rates;
Increase secularisation (nations with high levels of secularisation generally have better economic and educational outcomes and lower rates of fertility);
Encourage economic migration from the developing to developed world (migrants into highly developed countries generally have birth rates 1/2 that of the developing countries they left).

I take it you live in a state that does not have cars. More than 90% of people regularly break traffic laws, especially speeding. Sometimes just a little bit over the speed limit, sometimes anyone under the limit feels like a tortoise in a horse race.
