  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well you shouldn't be held responsible for his mistake. If you signed any kind of contract with him I'd do a careful read through of it.

There's probably forums out there specifically for legal questions. You might be able to post about this on one of them, get a response back from another lawyer.

I didn't sign anything, It was just that he said it needed done, So I paid him to do it. Now he says well we didn't need it and we shouldn't have sent it. But yet I still am responsible for paying. It is a crooked system

The Lawyer made a terrible mistake on paperwork and charged me 375.00 for the paperwork and sent it out... Which come to find out is all wrong and was completely unneeded to begin with.
He realized this afterward and yet still is making me pay for it? Am I responsible for his mistakes?
Was the mistake honest? Did he correct his error? then you own him the money for his honest work.

that's not my point. he did the work even if it was a mistake. Did he do the work under honest ambitions? if so then does he not deserve money for his time?

He had already done the will and charged Dad for it. Then forgot it and said I had to mail the quick claim deed and have it signed before I could have the house and land.. Well Dad had already stated in the will that the lawyer had prepared that he didn't leave her anything, so it was a complete mistake on his part and now he gets paid twice...Now that she has a quick claim deed, She refuses to return it to us.

i run a carpet cleaning business on the side....

some time people dont pay....
this year a company owed me for around 900$ of work that I did for them...and didnt pay as I was warned before hand they would take time to pay.....but nothing.....

so I felt like God said I could take care of it or He would.....
I put it in His hands and no more headaches.....

also God is giving me a lot more buisiness this year.......

psalm 125:1
Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever.

You see Dad paid him for it to secure it, and now I unknowingly paid money that didn't have to be paid

I think if you tell him that you are going to a different lawyer and tell him the reason why, he might change his mind. If not, at least he knows you have a strong boundary and there is a consequence to his actions. I don't know if it will have an effect on him or not, but at least you've let him know so he has the chance to change.

I am going to tell him tomorrow, I just feel that this is really unfair and I should be returned the money that he charged unnecessarily

Scotty you can go before or contact your local Consumer Protection Division of the States Attorney's Office, and/or the Attorney Grievance Commission for your state.

Your attorney ripped you off. By taking these steps you will be hopefully keeping him from doing the same to other unsuspecting people who urgently need an attorney.

He's preying on people. He needs to stop.

Hey's guys, I have a question, Without going into a lot of details in which most of you know already anyway, [extended "family"]
The Lawyer made a terrible mistake on paperwork and charged me 375.00 for the paperwork and sent it out... Which come to find out is all wrong and was completely unneeded to begin with.
He realized this afterward and yet still is making me pay for it? Am I responsible for his mistakes?
A mechanic charged me for some repairs including a turned clutch plate. My car soon broke down again. I took it to another mechanic and he told me the first one did not turn the clutch plate. I took it back to the first mechanic and told him I paid the bill, but he had not turned the clutch plate. The mechanic fixed it right the second time and avoided small claims court.

Your attorney should send out the correct paperwork and then you should pay him.

Am I responsible for his mistakes?
No, most likely. This may fall under incompetence in the performance of legal services by your lawyer which would give you the opportunity to recoup those fees.

Check with your state Bar Association about arbitration procedures.

Yes I am getting another one, I want to leave a bad review on his website but I guess that isn't a christian thing to do.

The Bible disagrees with you:

Ephesians 5:11
Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.

Heck no you aren't responsible. There are lawyers running around in my family and they would agree with me. Let him know that if he doesn't correct the error that you will report him to the local Bar Association. Then, after you get your money, avoid him and tell others to do the same.

It can be distressing, but probably yes.
When a doctor's visit does not result in healing,
they are still allowed to charge thousands of dollars (or hundreds).

When a mechanic doesn't fix the problem, but put some hours in "by the book"
they still can (and often do) charge $750.

When a drug does not work, but it is "by the book" (and sometimes not) ,
even if it cost $2000.00 per dose, there is no refund.

If a carpenter or contractor does $5000.00 work on a chimney or a carport, and it still leaks later, or doesn't last long,
there's usually no refund (unless in the contract).
Doctors get sued not uncommonly. Mechanics not uncommonly will fix the problem and charge accordingly. Drugs....well, that's a real problem. Best to avoid them if at all possible.

People in all professions are being held accountable by those who are not intimidated by them.

As for anyone who thinks it's not "Christian" or anything to blow the whistle...uh, do you look at things like Amazon Reviews, and Better Business Bureau reports, which can save your fellow Christians and others a ton of money? When people do wrong, if they think they won't be held accountable, you can be on it, they'll do MORE wrong and try to rip off the next person. We need to be watchmen on the wall, in a sense, and sound the alarm when the bad guys are up to no good.
