Really? You mean there are reliable epistemologies other than empiricism? Let's hear about them!...
Sigh.
Why do people do this?
No, I did not say anything about "reliable" or "epistemologies".
Why shouldn't we privilege scientific empiricism and critical thinking? This is the epistemology that has built our modern world, and there is no way of viewing the world that is more inherently useful...
I would raise children to decide for themselves what should be privileged and what is useful.
Intuition is very often wrong...
My experience has been that intuition is almost always right.
I wish that somebody had at an earlier age made me conscious of intuition and encouraged me to trust it.
Going by your gut...
I doubt that many people who have made deep inquiries into the nature of intuition would define it as "going by your gut".
can very often lead to serious errors in judgment,...
Maybe because people have not learned how to use intuition effectively?
and as such really should not be encouraged, so much as trying to understand the situation and reach reasoned conclusions based on the evidence...
Or people could learn to use tuition effectively and have another powerful tool in their toolbox in addition to formal reason.
There is simply no reason to privilege intuition like that...
Straw man.
I never said that anything should be privileged.
Aesthetics is nice to have to easily something one can develop on their own with no need for instruction,...
Hogwash.
I have probably never been able to fully appreciate, say, the music that I listen to. And trying to get people to appreciate it to the degree that I am able to appreciate it is often challenging.
And the appreciation I have for interior design would not be possible without the informal instruction from leisurely reading that I have done on the topic. It would be compounded greatly by, say, the formal academic instruction of a college interior design program.
and it's important to remember that what is beautiful is not necessarily right...
I have not stated or suggested anything to the contrary.
Postmodernism is fundamentally a terrible way of assessing the truth...
Postmodernism is a social and intellectual movement, not a method or technique.
Science works...
And future generations may suffer greatly because of that, speaking of children.
A lot of humans and non-human animals have already suffered greatly because of the work of science.
Intuition and aestheticism don't.
Speak for yourself.
