Many times I have been called a racist and a bigot because of my political views on the illegal immigration problem. I resent this immensely.

I am NOT a racist nor a bigot. For heavens sake--ALL my ancestors are immigrants to this country. But the BIG difference is that they did it LEGALLY. I have copies of my father's and grandmother' passports from Sweden. And guess what, back then, no one trying to make a phone call to a company had to press #2 from Swedish!

I DO believe in law and order. So if that makes me a racist or bigot, then those who think that need a lesson in what true racism is. I also have Native American Indian in me, and have heard my grandfather many times complain about the 'white man" and how they cheated the Indians out of their own land and the corruption of the American government.

And so--I am VERY keen about "IMMIGRATION". After all--look what happened to the NAI's because they could not stem it's tide.

It makes no sense to me to have to stand for hours in an airport--getting patted down like a common criminal-having your luggage x-rayed and sifted thru because YOU might be terrorist, while allowing our borders to remain wide open for any tom, dick or harry to stroll across as they please.

It is the DUTY of the federal government to PROTECT our borders. They are NOT doing this because they want the North American Union to develop.

We also cannot be blind to the fact that those who are coming by the MILLIONS ILLEGALLY into this country are not here to better this country. They are draining our resources and drying up the Social Security funds that hard working Americans have contributed to.

And to make this perfectly clear--I don't care which direction or of what nationality illegals come from, what they are doing is WRONG, pure and simple. I am against the WRONG acts of these individuals. If that makes me a racist or a bigot, then those of you who are against rapists and murderers are bigots too. Shame on your for judging those ppl who are just trying to 'have a better life' at the expense of others.

By the way, for those of your who have accused me of this, why not ask my ethnic clients if they think I am a racist. They will laugh in your face.

I agree generally with what you say and believe. The exception to me is the migrant farm workers who come into our country illegally but perform a very important function. If you eat fresh fruit more than likely it was harvested by a migrant farm worker who works his fingers to the bone for meger pay. Meger here is pretty good pay compared to what you can earn back in Mexico. I can't blame those who come here looking for a better way of life and are willing to work for a living to support in some cases many folks in their familia back home. I have a problem with those who come here illegally and become criminals while they are here.

It's a complex problem that needs to be addressed asap in light of the terroristic threat we all face. I am native American as well ( cherokee ) and know of the history of the way my ancestors were cheated and treated worse in some cases than dogs by this country. I could have a good reason to be bitter against this country however, I fought for this country in Viet Nam as an infantryman receiving two bronze stars and a few other metals as well. I would stand up for my country today if called for to do so but I know we need to change some things to make it better. That may not happen as we are very close to the Lord's return.

I understand about the 'illegal' farm workers. But again, Americans have fought hard to gain fair wages. Hasn't it always been that the owners of companies cheat their laborers? If the American worker, at such great cost, stood up to the powerful companies to secure a fair wage, then why not the foreign worker in his own country? Why must they sneak across the border to steal that which another man has labored so hard to gain? "Thou shalt NOT steal" is a broad commandment, which I believe includes stealing ones country and livelihood.

I know roofers in our area who have lost their small businesses due to the illegals underbidding them. I'm sorry, but this just wrong.

So Jim, as I said, this is not, at least for me--an issue of RACE. But IS an issue of RIGHT and WRONG.

migrant farm workers are not stealing anything... when is the last time americans harvested fruits or vegetables? That is why migrant farmers are used, because Americans WON'T do the work....
Actually when I was young we kids often harvested fruit or vegetables. We became a country where we forbid our young people from working at such jobs and others took their place. Really that was the reason our schools did not run full year round. American's worked at the planting and harvesting times.

It is not the migant workers fault for being a better worker or someone who will do the job that we ceased to allow our young people to do. We offer them a better life then their native country so it is no wonder they come here. The problem is that we allow them to break our laws to work with fraudulent documentation such as other peoples Social Security numbers and other illegal documents as well as sapping the resources of the local areas such happens with the health care system in places like California. Of course as illegals they are much more subject to further abuse by unscrupulous people such as sweat shops etc.

In the long run laws are used to protect people and when the laws are broken it often causes many problems for both the law abiding and the law breakers.

I took my familia to Mexico a few years back. The conditions there are vastly different than what we have here. I am not sure but I don't think they have any social services to speak of. Your either very wealthy or very poor in that country. There are millions who live in squander and barely survive there. I am currently trying to learn spanish so I can go on Maranatha missions to Mexico or South America so I have an interest in our brothers and sister south of us.

I certainly don't blame you for being racist honor. However I just can't blame many of those able bodied folks who live down there for trying to better themselves. It would be better if they would do it legally but I don't know how hard that would be for them to do. If it cost anything there would be many who couldn't afford it.

Jim,

My grandfather received a bronze star for his service at the Battle of Guadalcanal. I just want to say thank you for your service in Viet Nam.

What about those who immigrate illegally because they are trying to escape their homelands and cannot afford or are not able to wait for the legal process?

The way I see it is that it is all God's land. If one country has more capability to take care of a person then another, then as God's children we should put their health as more priority. :)

Granted, we are told to respect the laws. If at all possible, it is better to do the process legally..but sometimes it simply is not possible.

JIM? Why did you say that? I told you that I am NOT a racist. This 'immigration' thing is a national dilemma, it's not racial.

Jim--since you served in the armed forces-how do you feel then when you see these 'immigrants' turn the American flag upside down and place the Mexican flag ABOVE it and parade in our streets demanding 'rights' that they have never been granted because they are not citizens?

What other foreign national have you ever seen do that when they came for the better life?

When my immigrant fathers came here, they kissed the ground and hugged the flag--they didn't cuss at the natural borns as I have witnessed here or treat them badly, as these 'immigrants' are doing.

Its a combination of capitalism and politics. People in poorer countries want a better life for themselves just like people in richer countries. If politicians/international businesses could find a way to reduce or eliminate the disparity between rich and poor in the developing world then there would be a reduced need for illegal immigration. (Europe has a similar problem). As long as the world worships the almighty dollar, pound or euro this problem will continue. We Western consumers are quite happy when we get cheap goods not considering the abuse of labour that happens in these places to keep more disposable money in our pockets. So don't blame the illegal immigrant worker blame the system that brought him/her over.
BTW all European immigrants today enjoy the fruits of the immoral invasion of the American continent, too many years have passed for you all to 'go back home to Europe' but I wonder if deportation was on the cards tomorrow if only the Native Americans would vote for it? lol

I'm sorry, I apologize , I didn't mean it that way. I said it wrong as I indicated above. Attribute this to being a thick headed old man who doesn't always read what he writes correctly. Sorry
