  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I HATE summer weather!

Currently 90 here. Supposed to be 105 today. Apparently we're getting a cold front, wind is supposed to shift from the NE. Only 102 tomorrow...

I remember my many summers in Oklahoma ...
the hot temps were easy to bear, with the low humidity.
Just lots of heat and sunshine, from day to day ...
I miss those days.

But I live in the NE now, where 90 is not comfortable at all.
High humidity. Ugh.

Really depends upon where one lives ...
but happy for you in Texas.

I, too, am happy for happy Texans. I think the heat would kill me though. It's trying ti kill me in northern midwest.

Yes, that's the way it is here. We have the "dry" heat. You become acclimatized over the years. The humidity is usually down to at least 20% during the hottest part of the day, sometimes further down into the 10-12% range. I get outside sometimes late afternoon and do something in the yard if the mood strikes. I know sweat won't start running down my face the minute I step out the door! And the joggers, cyclists and dog-walkers don't miss a beat. A little shade does help though.

Go Sooners! ;)

I look at the terrible weather so many places have had this year and I don't mind the heat at all. We've been blessed to have the bad stuff go around us. The ground may be cracked and the vegetation brown, but we're getting along fine. ;)

Are you in an area that's gotten lots of storms lately?

Did the duck eggs hatch?

I've been here for years with no storm damage except once and it was only slight (straight line winds that knocked my aluminum bench over and scraped some of the paint off). No tree damage in our neighborhood. People in our county who live near a river have had flood damage once in a while. Kroger was closed several months because of flooding. I've been told that our neighborhood used to be a celery farm. We bought our house in 1994.

I never saw the ducklings, but they obviously hatched and found some water. :)

A celery farm! That conjures up an interesting image.

That's good about the ducklings. There are a half dozen mallards that fly over our house in a tight little line morning and evening, quacking happily.

Would I be overly nosy if I ask where in OK?

My husband grew up in NY, not far from Erie, PA. We always visited his folks during the summer. It was lovely there.

I was actually born in Ohio, but we moved out of the state when my (first) late husband transferred to another job.
We lived in Illinois for 2 years, then moved to Oklahoma City, where we lived for 25 years.

Because I was 'born again' while living in OKC, I consider it in my heart to be 'home'.
I experienced many good things there for the first time. OKC was very good to me.
I'm Okie, at heart.

Isn't it interesting how we fall in love with places?

OKC is very nice and really sprawling. There are lots of interesting places to visit in Oklahoma, the Native American heritage is very much celebrated. We live about 120 miles frim OKC, about 10 miles south of the Red River in Wichita County. Used to visit Anadarko and The Wichita Mountains Wildlife area. And there's a place known for it's hamburgers, can't recall the name at the moment. The OKC Zoo is nice.

I've been gone now from there since late 2007.
But I see and hear that OKC has really grown since then ...
I might not even recognize some of it now!

We moved there in the 80's, when it was still 'a small town who thought it was big'. lol
I loved it as a 'small town'. It was the closest thing to Mayberry USA.
Loved it.

AND loved the OKC Zoo, and the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge ...
2 of my very favorite places!!

So you are in Texas?
The drive down from OKC to Dallas is nice; did it a number of times with my job.
And gals in OKC would drive down to "The Big D" to shop on the weekends!
Oh, the good old days ...

I'm grateful to God, for the many happy memories He has given me, many of which were in OKC.
Now that I am older, I have time to sit back and appreciate them.
(Nice to talk about them, too!)

:)

My paternal grandfather died at the VA hospital in Muscogee before I was born. He is buried in San Antonio. He fought in WW I.
Your grandfather was a brave patriot, as was mine.
Mine served in WWII.
:unitedstates:

Muskogee is famous for their annual Azalea Festival.
Unfortunately, we never made it there, but it is a beautiful time of year to visit Muskogee.

Azaleas grow very well in Oklahoma, We grew them in our backyard.
On this webpage (below) is a video discussing the festival:

I love azaleas and dogwood trees are my favorite other than blue spruce and other evergreens.
I've seen gorgeous azaleas driving through Georgia. We stopped in Oklahoma on our way from TX to MI. I asked my husband to stop and get me some orange pop. He came back with an orange soda! Excuse me. In Florida, we knew sodas had ice cream in them. Well, he went back and complained that he didn't ask for ice cream! The manager said, "Give the man whatever he wants. He's a foreigner!" LOL.

A few years later my MIL from Maine was visiting us in Virginia and tried to order a frappe. The girl said, "What's a frap?' Darned if I knew!

MIL said, "You know, milk and ice cream." That was before McDonald's had arrived in Maine and French Canadians were all over the state.

Oh, sorry I misspelled Muskogee! My memory is slipping!

'pop' that is called 'soda' ...
brown paper grocery 'bags' that are called 'sacks' ...
yes, we had to learn those things, when we moved to Oklahoma!

Hit 106 today. One of those days where you walk out the door and the hot breeze slaps you in the face! But it's fallen to 99 in the last few minutes and we just had a LOUD crack of thunder from out of nowhere. Checked the weather radar and there are pop-up storms all over the area. The weather guy said we might experience a downburst if anything severe pops up. We had one Saturday and there were tree limbs down all over the neighborhood. Including at our house!

I'm sorry about the tree limb! If that happens to my house, it will be the neighbor's tree.
