Senate Panel approves subpoenas of Obama Officials

Given that these are the same Republican Senators who refused to supoena John Bolton in January, apparently they are being given their marching orders straight from the White House and tasked with orchestrating a Democratic scandal to coincide with the 2020 Election!
OR they are simply uncovering the scandal that has been there all the time. People are about to find out what actually happened, why and who was involved, fasten your seat belt.

You think someone in the WH called McConnel and said "we'd like a little favor from you, though..."

He seems to still think the whole world works the way he grew up seeing business done in Brooklyn.

This one looks to be no better than the Ukraine plan, or the "Biden sex scandal" that republicans now don't want to talk about at all, or all the other stuff they threw up, hoping something, anything might stick.

Each failure makes the public more skeptical.

Senate Panel approves subpoenas of Obama Officials

With over 120,000 dead, 2.3 million testing positive, 35,000 new cases daily and 40 million unemployed, do Senate Republicans really believe that investigating the Obama Administration is a national priority and represents the best use of their time?

The average American knows that despite this President's rhetoric, the response of this nation to the pandemic pales in comparison to that of other modern democracies and instead of miraculously disappearing in April, once again COVID-19 has
resurfaced with a vengeance in June!

He needs a diversion. If this is all he has, it's going to be pretty grim for him, I think.
For any President who possesses leadership skills, the pandemic and the George Floyd protests would have "punched their ticket" for a 2nd term to fulfill their mission of uniting and restoring the nation!

These crises bring out the best and the worst in leaders - Americans know that the performance of the world's foremost superpower to address its problems has been dismal at best and that the majority have given up on Donald J Trump as a lost cause!

Yes. And Trump initially got a bounce in favorability when the crisis hit. Americans tend to rally around the president in times of crisis. Only when it became clear that Trump was completely unable to deal with the crisis, did they begin to abandon him.

would you say that Biden has exhibited the kind of qualities that you say would ensure a punched ticket? I am frankly unimpressed with anything he has said. He seems to be afraid to say anything that might be considered a firm position. Trump may not be mr nice but he takes a position even if some people do not agree with it.

He shows the intelligence and the personal qualities necessary to bring the country back together. The very things he's most criticized for (being willing to work with people with whom he disagrees), is the salient strength that's needed in a leader now. Yes, the extreme right and extreme left don't like it much, but they are losing support to people fed up with the politics of division.

And of course, he's got the will and the stamina to actually lead. Trump's ongoing cognitive and physical problems show he's not capable of another term.

I am frankly unimpressed with anything he has said.

Most Americans disagree with you.

He seems to be afraid to say anything that might be considered a firm position.

For example, he riled extremists on the left and right by opposing Medicare for All, but proposing a buy-in for those who wanted it. He opposes defunding the police, even as he strongly supports more accountability for police who abuse the power entrusted to them.

Trump may not be mr nice

The problem is that he's not Mr. Competent.

but he takes a position even if some people do not agree with it.

Until he changes his mind again. Look at the mess he made of the COVID-19 crisis, by waffling back and forth on what to do.

Who has ongoing cognitive and physical problems, that would be Biden, you know the guy who is going to beat Biden in the election, oh wait, that not my wife that is my sister, and what city am I in and what city is Trump going to be in? I that the kind of cognitive capability you want in a president? He went against defunding the police after and only after the liberals told him their position. Trump was waffling back and forth because his experts were not giving him accurate information. Go look at what Dr Fauci has said over the period he has been the primary expert. The last admission from him is that he lied to the public about the need for masks because he wanted to save them for the medical personnel. Biden get along with everyone because he has no ideas of his own so he simply agrees with everyone. Look at some of the people he has associated with in the past. I could go on but why bother.

Yeah, think of all the embarrassments. Remember when Biden was going to sign an order, forgot what he was there for, and wandered off while everyone was watching?

Or when Biden couldn't find Rudy Giuliani, when he was looking right at him?

Or when Biden praised George Washington for seizing all the airports?

Or when Biden suggested that we could clean our lungs by injecting disinfectant into our bodies?

Those were truly signs of cognitive decline. 0h... wait.... all those were Trump, weren't they?

you know the guy who is going to beat Biden in the election,

Right now, the only one who could manage that, would be Joe Biden. Why?

RealClearPolitics - Election 2020 - General Election: Trump vs. Biden!

Go to the site and see what the average of polls for each swing state looks like. Trump could pull this out, if he got his act together, and started acting like a president. Not much chance of that, is there?

"oh wait, that not my Rudy, that is my wife, where's Rudy, and what city am I in? And don't forget to inject your Chlorox and what am I on this stage for....?" That's the kind of cognitive capability we have in our president.

(Biden) went against defunding the police after and only after the liberals told him their position.

Yeah, it's kinda hard to come out against something like that, until someone else advocates it.

Go figure.

Well, let's take a look...

Over 100,000 dead, not 120 million. About 36,000 of them only because Trump botched the response to the pandemic.

But for Trump being off by three degrees of magnitude is better than usual.

(Trump gaffes about injecting disinfectant, airports during the Revolutionary War, forgetting what he was doing and wandering off during a signing, forgetting what Rudy Giuliani looks like...etc.)

Tell me what the score is when the ball game is over, until then it means nothing.

I'm sure we'll be seeing more of these; they are becoming more frequent and more disturbing as time goes on.

President Donald Trump again reignited widespread speculation about the state of his health when he showed difficulty in lifting a glass of water with one hand. He also had visible difficulty walking down a gently sloping ramp, and couldn't correctly pronounce the names, MacArthur and Ulysses. Trump pronounced MacArthur as”MacGarther” and Ulysses as “Ulyssius.”

These very public signs of what some doctors say could be symptoms of a neurological malady were plain for the world to see Friday (June 12), when Trump was at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. At one point in his commencement speech, Trump paused to take a sip of water.

Videos showed Trump reaching for the small glass of water with his right hand. He brings the glass to his chin and then can't seem to move the glass any higher. He used his left hand to push his trembling right hand up and took a quick sip, looking embarrassed all the time.

With Obamagate, Trump returns to a favorite distraction tactic
For years, Trump has promoted theories about his predecessor to distract from unwelcome news, elevate himself and excite his base. The details are rarely important.
Donald Trump launched his political career turbocharging the conspiratorial birther movement. Now Trump is trying to keep his presidency afloat with another theory about his predecessor: Obamagate.

Over the past three days, Trump has tweeted and railed about claims that President Barack Obama, in his final days in office, orchestrated a plot to damage the incoming president. “He got caught, OBAMAGATE!” Trump tweeted on Sunday, one of 126 tweets and retweets — the second-highest single-day total of his presidency — that kept returning to Obama.
...
The “OBAMAGATE!” effort appears no different. It has drawn attention away from the rising coronavirus death toll and a spate of cases within the White House — an inconvenient counterpoint to the president’s insistence that it is safe to return to work.

With Obamagate, Trump returns to a favorite distraction tactic

Analysis: Well, actually, the GOP investigated Obama several times
President Trump was wrong in his tweet
President Donald Trump woke up on Thursday feeling persecuted.

“The Dems and their committees are going ‘nuts,’ ” he tweeted, launching investigation after investigation into Trump’s campaign, presidency and private business. “The Republicans never did this to President Obama,” he added, “there would be no time left to run government.”

While it’s true that Republicans didn’t launch investigations into President Barack Obama’s nonexistent private business or his campaign, it’s far from true that they never launched a full-scale attack on Obama’s administration.
...
Fast and Furious
House Oversight Committee, February 2011 to July 2014

Then chaired by Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., the Oversight Committee launched an investigation into the operation aimed at determining what had happened and what administration officials knew about it. In July 2011, the committee released the first of a three-part report assessing what it had learned.

House Oversight, October 2011 to June 2017
...
Solyndra
One of Obama’s focal points as president was to bolster jobs associated with renewable energy. That included making loans through an established Energy Department program that acted as investments in clean energy companies, including a California-based solar-panel company called Solyndra. It collapsed, defaulting on its loan to the government – although the loan program overall ended up earning a profit for the government.

The investment was presented as an example of “crony capitalism,” an investment made at Obama’s behest to favor a particular company.

House Energy and Commerce Committee, February 2011 to August 2012

The final report on the investment found that the administration didn’t allow the company to fail earlier than it did, choosing instead to restructure the loan and fostering heavier losses.
...
Benghazi

By far the biggest target of congressional investigators were the twin attacks on U.S. facilities in Benghazi, Libya, on Sept. 11, 2012 – shortly before the 2012 election. How the attacks led to the deaths of four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens, was a subject of intense scrutiny – aimed first at Obama’s administration and, as the 2016 election neared, at Obama’s secretary of state, Hillary Clinton.

Five House committees launched investigations shortly after the attacks took place (and mostly before the 2012 election).

House Armed Services Committee, September 2012 to February 2014

House Foreign Affairs Committee, November 2012 to February 2014

House Intelligence Committee, September 2012 to November 2014

House Judiciary Committee, September 2012 to April 2013

House Oversight, October 2012 to September 2013

The five committees released a joint preliminary report in April 2013. Most of the committees continued their work beyond that point, the result of which included broadly rebutting many of the conspiracy theories flying around on conservative media.

Two Senate committees, then controlled by the Democratic majority, also launched probes.

Senate Intelligence Committee, October 2012 to January 2014

Senate Homeland Security Committee, October 2012 to December 2012

But the most notable and influential investigation came with the formation of a select committee of members of the House to investigate the attacks.

Select Committee on Benghazi, May 2014 to December 2016

The most important finding from the select committee didn’t relate directly to the Benghazi attacks at all. It was this committee that uncovered Clinton’s private email server, the existence of which prompted an eventual FBI investigation and which played a key role in Clinton’s losing the 2016 presidential election.
Analysis: Actually, the GOP investigated Obama several times

Interestingly, the total number of crimes uncovered by all these efforts came to 0. (Although the republican-controlled House thought AG Eric Holder was just terrible)

A single investigation into corruption in the Trump administration convicted seven Trump underlings:
Mueller's scorecard: Who's been convicted, sentenced

Either Obama was a remarkably clean politician, Donald Trump is a remarkably dirty politician, or the republicans are the worst investigators since Inspector Jacques Clouseau.
iu

Or possibly, all three of those.
