Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., will preside over former President Donald Trump's trial in the Senate, a Senate source told NPR. Leahy, 80, is the president pro tempore of the Senate, a constitutional role given to the longest-serving lawmaker in the majority party. The president pro tempore is third in the line of presidential succession, after the vice president and House speaker.

From now on Democrats think they can impeach anyone who runs for president against their candidate, bypassing the pesky voters. The Election Commissions in all of those states, certified their elections.

So, Trump fabricated the claim and used it to incite anger in his base and told them to go to Washington and "be wild." They did and we saw the members of Congress running for their lives.

The Constitution is silent on the question of if a private citizen can be impeached for actions they took as a Officer of the United States. But the presence of the disqualification clause makes it seem plausible, otherwise anybody can avoid it by simply resigning if an conviction seems likely and then running for or being appointed to a position afterwards. The House and Senate both have historical precedent of impeaching and trial a former official, though in tha tcase he wasn't convicted.

That is obviously why Chief Justice Roberts wants nothing to do with this "impeachment" and he has refused to preside. If no one realized the Democrats went outside of the Constitution in their stealing of the election then they should realize it now.
