"on your wings" by iron & wine

God, there is gold hidden deep in the ground
God, there’s a hangman that wants to come around

How we rise when we’re born
like the ravens in the corn
on their wings, on our knees
crawling careless from the sea

God, give us love in the time that we have

God, there are guns growing out of our bones
God, every road takes us farther from home

All these men that you made
how we wither in the shade
of your trees, on your wings
we are carried to the sea

God, give us love in the time that we have

Creed comes to mind as an obvious first example. I consider Stretch Arm Strong to be a secular band, but they have many songs that have Christian meanings, since their songwriter is Christian. One could say the same for Killswitch Engage and Soulfly, though I'd say Soulfly is pseudo-Christian. As for a secular band knowingly doing a flat-out Christian song, you have the Dropkick Murphys with "Amazing Grace". That's the best version of that song I have ever heard, BTW.

Thrice, from interviews with the non-christians in the band, are NOT a christian band, but because their songwriter (lead singer/guitarist) is a christian, their lyrics and songs are often used as a "proof" that they ARE in fact christian. Their songs have a lot of christian meanings in them using biblical imagery and stuff from CS Lewis as inspiration.

OK, I know Thrice is not listed or known as a Christian band but this is some of the most blatant Christian lyrics I have read in a long time. These songs are filled with messages of hope, grace and salvation. The songs don't come out and say Jesus, but the references are on every song, even mentions of the wine and bread, our light, grace, the word that saves us, etc. I wish Christian bands had this great of lyrics. Songs like "Image of the Invisible" and "The Earth Will Shake" are very clear Biblical messages of God's love for us. Now matter your spiritual direction, you will find comfort and hope in Thrice's latest album!

Lots of U2's and Collective Soul's material. There's also a similar thread in the other section, too.

Yeah, I was going to say U2. But they're pretty explicitly Christian.

by U2

I waited patiently on the Lord
He inclined and heard my cry
He lifted me up from the pit
Out of the miry clay

I will sing, sing a new song
I will sing, sing a new song
How long to sing this song?
How long to sing this song?
How long, how long, how long, how long
To sing this song?

He set my feet upon a rock
And made my footsteps firm
Many will see
Many will see and fear

I will sing, sing a new song
I will sing, sing a new song
How long to sing this song?
How long to sing this song?
How long, how long, how long, how long
To sing this song?

Jesus is Just Alright,I think it's an old 70's band

Doobie Brothers.. but DC Talk remade it, alot better I might add..:)

And oh, BTW.. Reliant K is NOT secular, they are a Christian group, who gets alot of secular play, along with Lifehouse and Switchfoot.

The following are secular bands with Christian members:

Shadow Gallery
progressive hard rock- kind of like a combination of Dream Theatre and Kansas

Magnitude 9
mega-talented melodic power metal from Ohio

Balance Of Power
progressive melodic metal - the bands Lance King era material is the best

Threshold
progressive metal from UK - keyboardist/lyricist, Richard West, is a Christian

Proto Kaw
progressive rock featuring Kansas guitarist/keyboardist Keryy Livgren

Also be sure to check out Avian, Pyramaze and Warrior (the album Code Of Life with Rob Rock on lead vocals)

Uh,there was Evanescence's song Tourniquette. If someone already posted that, sorry.
Actually it's a Soul Embraced song. And Soul Embraced was/is(? are they still around?) a Christian band. The first time Evanescence recorded it they were too.

Yeah,, that really makes me sad. When they first started out, some of their songs were really annointed, then they got the big head and denounced their Christianity... :(
