I am not much of a fan of King Xerxes (I believe he has also been called Artaxerxes in some versions) for his apparent temper - brought about by an obvious over-indulgence of wine going by the implications in chapter 1, but Esther at least was shown to have won him over easily by her character.

Yay, the New Testament is coming up! Hmm...my Bible still has two more chapters of Daniel that we have not read, though. I will read them today.

I might have missed that somehow. But please tell me what these other two chapters were about when you come back next time, Miss Multi? ^-^

Maybe they are in my Bible but not yours. They are different versions, after all.

The last two chapters are the appendix. Chapter 13 is "Susanna's Virtue" and is about a falsely accused woman who is saved from execution by Daniel through the spirit of God; her accusers end up executed instead. Chapter 14 is "Bel and the Dragon" and is about Daniel destroying dragons that the king wants people to worship. (The Daniels in these chapters may not be the same one from chapters 1 to 12.)

I was thinking, if God's charge against the people of Israel and Judah in Malachi 1 that it was evil for them to offer sacrifices with physical blemishes to Him on the altar, if it is yet another parallel to the perfect and sinless sacrificial Lamb, Jesus Christ. Yes, sin is not so much a physical blemish as it is one of the heart, I suppose, but the physical defects such as blindness of the animals that God was not pleased with Judah sacrificing for their sins - perhaps it was even that He literally could not accept them - still seems symbolic of the sacrificial system under the gracious new covenant we have today, in which there would be one Sacrifice for all time. No, the sacrifice for sins must be perfect, and Jesus is the only One in all of the world, in all of history, who could be so.

8 And when ye offer the blind for sacrifice, it is no evil! and when ye offer the lame and sick, it is no evil! Present it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee? or will he accept thy person? saith Jehovah of hosts.

9 And now, I pray you, entreat the favor of God, that he may be gracious unto us: this hath been by your means: will he accept any of your persons? saith Jehovah of hosts.

10 Oh that there were one among you that would shut the doors, that ye might not kindle [fire on] mine altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you, saith Jehovah of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand.

11 For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name [shall be] great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense [shall be] offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name [shall be] great among the Gentiles, saith Jehovah of hosts.

12 But ye profane it, in that ye say, The table of Jehovah is polluted, and the fruit thereof, even its food, is contemptible.

13 Ye say also, Behold, what a weariness is it! and ye have snuffed at it, saith Jehovah of hosts; and ye have brought that which was taken by violence, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye bring the offering: should I accept this at your hand? saith Jehovah.
