• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why not just answer, yes I believe in gravity and no, fish do not need bicycles?

Yep, good. I see that splitting it up like this has been used now.

For me, I would answer that the empirical worldview (which is clear about areas where there is evidence, such as the question of gravity or evolution, and agnostic in other areas, like the existence of some kind of God), is the most authoritative. Note that this includes the worldview of a Christian who does't deny evidence.

For the second part "having more value than other areas", I would disagree, since many other areas are very "valuable", and that the question itself is difficult to answer, since "value" is subjective. A similar question would be "do you agree that vanilla is the best flavor?".

Of course this will now become and analogy argument, arguing if your analogy accurately represents my post. At this point, the original question will be (hopefully?) forgotten.

I don't think so. In both the other posters and myself, this has allowed the conversation to move forward.

In Christ-

The definition didn't indicate equal authority, the definition stated that "empirical science constitutes the most authoritative worldview".....the MOST authoritative worldview.

Maybe you read it too quickly, but you disagreed that it was the MOST authoritative worldview. If it's not the MOST authoritative worldview, what other worldview is science secondary to?
I'm guessing that mathematics is not a field of study that you are familiar with.

There are concepts within math called "greater than", "less than" and "equal to".

Something that is the MOST is considered to be greater than the other items mentioned in the set. If something is equal to another item in the set, then it cannot be considered the MOST.

Is that a good enough explanation or should I start with simpler math concepts?

If empirical science isn't the MOST AUTHORITATIVE worldview, what is the MOST AUTHORITATIVE worldview in your opinion?

I have made my opinion known. What is the MOST AUTHORITATIVE worldview in your opinion?

Looks like my mathematics lesson didn't take.

What concept were you hung up on? ....greater than? equal?

Anytime you wish to present your idea of the most authoritative view, which isn't science, I'd certainly be interested in seeing it.

Looks like you still didn't understand my answer.

Should we start with something simpler? Do you understand the concept of numbers to provide symbolic representation of the amount or value of things?

Start with simply pointing out the most authoritative worldview, which isn't empirical science.
