  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Great, you disagree. Do you disagree.....

1) in the universal applicability of the scientific method and approach?

or

2) with the view that empirical science constitutes the most authoritative worldview?

or

3) that it's most valuable part of human learning to the exclusion of other viewpoints?

Which part of the Wikipedia definition do you reject? All? Some? None?

I agree that it is universally applicable.
I disagree that it is the most authoritative worldview.
I disagree that it should be used as an exclusive viewpoint.

Either you've stopped beating your wife or you haven't. Which is it?

You disagree with the view that empirical science constitutes the most authoritative worldview. What is the most authoritative worldview?

Since you were very plain about rejecting the view that empirical science constitutes the most authoritative worldview, what is the most authoritative worldview?
My answer has been given to you....http://www.christianforums.com/t7867741-5/#post67090025
That you refuse to accept it makes me think you are just trying to trap people with your question.

So, you have either stopped beating your wife or you haven't. Which is it?

The question wasn't about EQUAL authority, the question was about which was the MOST AUTHORITATIVE view.

That's ok, you don't have to answer. Doesn't change Scientism one bit.

I did answer. Why must there be a MOST AUTHORITATIVE view?

My answer wasn't intended to change Scientism.

Why does it matter what Scientism is?

I dunno. You'd have to ask those who embrace Scientism.

Why does it matter what Scientism is?

It's simply a category of believers.

Your answer makes no sense in light of your posts these last few hours. Just because there are people that choose a worldview to be the most authoritative for them does not mean I have to choose one to be most authoritative for me.
You, however, would not accept my answer and kept badgering me to choose one. What was your reason for requiring me to choose a MOST AUTHORITATIVE view, if you don't know why there must be one? Do you feel that each person must have one MOST AUTHORITATIVE view? Why?

It's simply a category of believers.
What was your point in starting this thread, then?

The point was to identify a category of believers.

Andddd......I have a few busy weeks ahead of me.

God bless everyone.

"Scientism is belief in the universal applicability of the scientific method and approach, and the view that empirical science constitutes the most authoritative worldview or most valuable part of human learning to the exclusion of other viewpoints."

Agree or disagree?
Yes, that seems to be a fair representation of "scientism".

Believers are sinners. Only the Father has authority.
Even Jesus followed the will of the Father.
I'm not sure He actually has gender, but I'll
accept what Jesus taught as the best version
of the Truth.

I predict you'll continually use the 'define this and define that' response in your future posts. We'll see. :)

Off course I will. Since you obviously have no intention of changing your ways. You will continue to ask loaded questions, trick questions and try to set up juvenile traps.

And every time someone will call you on it, you'll scream "evasion".

It's ridiculous.

The question wasn't about EQUAL authority, the question was about which was the MOST AUTHORITATIVE view.

Which is why your question is nonsense.

If the dude thinks several things are authorative in their own way and by and large then views them as equal, then for him there are no "most authoritative" views

If you have 2 objects of the same weight, then there is no "heaviest" one.
If you have 2 objects of the same size, then there is no "biggest" one.

It's the difference between >, < and =

Sheesh!!!

Math is based on empirical science, just so you know.

Not really. No one ever puts 3 apples on a table, takes 7 away, and photographs the -4 apples on the table to determine the outcome of the experiment. Euclid didn't use a protractor to determine that the sum of the angles in a triangle is 180 degrees.

Euclidean geometry is a game based on assuming a set of axioms, and seeing what logically follows. No empirical evidence is necessary. All mathematics is the same. It may have utility in empirical science; certain branches may have been motivated by empirical questions, but it is not really empirical itself.
