  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Assuming a seamless, uninterrupted path of scientific growth and societal maturity, achieving a Star Trek-level post-scarcity society is roughly 100 to 300 years away, aligning with humanity reaching a stable Type I civilization on the Kardashev Scale. And to reach type 2 like in star trek we need another 1000 years. When you consider the universe deals in billions of years 300 years or 1000 is not much.

I believe Revelation is a possible ending for humanity if humanity does not grow up. God or Satan will not destroy the world, humanity will. I also think it is a excuse for humans to blame someone like the devil for our own screw ups. Know one makes you screw up, you either learn for your mistakes or keep making them, its on all of us.

Here is how humanity falls, our rapid technological power outpacing our moral maturity and emotional growth. Wars, environmental harm, and greed driven entirely by human actions rather than outside forces. And the refusal to cooperate or share resources, leading to systemic failure.

In the next few hundred years humanity will evolve to a type 1 civilization, or it will drive itself into extinction or back into the stone age. Blaming the devil is just an excuse, at the end of the day we all have to choose to give in to temptation or resist it. And the only power the devil has on us is what we give him.

If you accept that a Type 1 is (from wiki)...
...then we're there already. It doesn't say 'a civilisation which does access...' but '...is able to access'.

We could do it now. That we don't do it is the problem. Which, as you suggest, might take 100 years or more. I think that at the speed that we're advancing with renewable energy it'll be less than 100 years. My grandchildren's great grandchildren might see it happen.

In passing, I'm just about to order a 21.0kWh solar battery to go with our panels. I'll then be close to a Type 1 household!

Can you clarify what you meant by this. Your meaning was obscure to me.
That, as I am sure you know, the single most important word in the post. Setting it aside there is little for me to disagree with in your post.

However, I would make this amendment: you have proposed a dichotomy of outcome - Material Success versus obliteration, or near obliteration. I suggest there are a spectrum of possible outcomes lying between these two extremes. And for each of those possible options the optimists will believe it the best of all possible worlds, the pessimists will think it the worst.

Blaming the devil is just an excuse
I agree. I grow weary with " the devil made me do it" excuse. Satan is a deceiver. God allows this deception in order to test the faith of those who say they love Him. Satan can not do anything without the approval from our Lord. With all this said, the buck stops with us. Some choose to follow the deception and sin and some choose to stay on the narrow road of righteousness by rejecting the deception that leads to sin.

Blessings.

What about people who think the Devil is made up bad theology. What about them?
I consider the devil to be the biggest fool in existence. A being who's intellegence has to rival a humans, picks a fight with a god that he has know chance of whining. He is an idiot, I do not deny his existence but considering his power is limited what we give him he is pathetic. I do not blame god or the devil for my problems, we all make our choices, blaming god or the devil is just a cop out

That is a very weird concept. It's like saying that the bad guy who gives a kid a hard time in school can't do it without approval from the kid's parents.

Not a concept, a fact.
Colossians 1:16
"For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him."

Well, we obviously will disagree with it being a fact. But as if life wasn't hard enough as it is, with more than enough opportunities for us to be morally tested on a daily basis, it seems more than odd that God would not just allow the devil to mess with us as an additional test, but to actually approve it.

Again, it's like a parent who approves of his child being bullied to see how they react.

You are not the first to be annoyed with our Lord’s permission of suffering, but the comfort in His absolute control over Satan is that evil never gets the final say—what the enemy intends to destroy us with, God turns into a vehicle for our salvation and triumph.

Be blessed.

My emphasis added. Except for those who, apparently, don't end up in Heaven. No salvation or triumph for them.
