• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You missed the context of what he said. His point was that you mustn't pray to show off. Would you really abolish church prayer?
Let's take a closer look at that:

“When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites! They love
to stand up and pray in the houses of worship
and on the
street corners, so that everyone will see them. I assure
you, they have already been paid in full. But when you
pray, go to your room, close the door, and pray to your
Father
, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what
you do in private, will reward you." (Matthew 6:5-6)

Evidently, houses of worship (churches, nowadays) are not
exempt from Jesus's criticism regarding how prayer is
handled.

I think banning prayer in church would be a mistake.

You've taken this out of context.

Which word or phrase in the prayer makes it a Christian prayer, as opposed to a prayer for all people?
Then educate me.

This has been explained numerous times but you keep ignoring it. In an earlier post I wrote the following: "There are Christians who would object if their version of the prayer wasn't the one used in schools. Further, the belief in God the Father, Son and Holy Ghost is a Christian belief. How could those who practice Wicca or Hinduism not object to a prayer that is directed to "Our Father" when Wiccans worship the God and Goddess and Hindus worship a multitude of Gods? Muslims would object to a prayer that isn't to Allah, and Jews do not believe in the Trinity and so would object the a prayer to "Our Father."

In the name of political correctness, there are those that want to accommodate all people, no matter how good or how evil. And so, evil creeps into our society.

As for the rest of us, we know there is one God. It doesn't matter what you call him, as long as you believe that's his name. It shouldn't bother us that Muslims call him "Allah," and it shouldn't bother Muslims that we don't.

If a religion, be it Wicca or Hindu, worships another god, why should it bother us if we offend them? And if people can't tolerate our calling our Lord "Father," why should we care?

Please show me in which post I said that.
Well, I'm debating several people, and I can't keep track of who says what. So then you're okay with school prayer?

There is thus little thing called the 1st Amendment to the Constitution that forbids the establishment of religion. If you require a Christian prayer—and whether you will admit it or not the Lord’s Prayer is a Christian prayer—then you are establishing a religion. I’ve had enough of your refusal to accept reality so I’m out of here.

We're not establishing religion by publicly asking the Lord to help us.

So then you're okay with school prayer?
Only if it's done as Jesus directed:

“When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites! They love
to stand up and pray in the houses of worship and on the
street corners, so that everyone will see them. I assure
you, they have already been paid in full. But when you
