• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

ok, so basicaly after high school i went off to the military, i was stationed in florida. i got bored easily and started smoking, i tried quitting for about 6 months every week, but i averaged a pack a day the days i smoked.... but on my last term for quitting, i got medically discharged, now im back home and have been smoke free for 2 months (dont want parents to know i smoked) . its getting hard though, cause first i thought i was done, but when i get real stressed, i start craving.... remind my self how awful i felt when i smoked... but its really hard... i just dont want to fall back to the old habits

I can only imagine how you're feeling, I've never smoked myself. But my husband has, and he describes some of the same things you do: the cravings when he get's stressed.

I don't know if I have any good advice other than finding another way to react on your stress. Running, screming, painting, singing, praying etc.

I wish you good luck, and hope you'll one day be free of your cravings for smoke.

Hey, I hope and pray that you are doing well with your quit. I know that it is hard but hang in there. It does get better. I have been quit for nearly 2 and a half years and I no longer struggle like that. I did at the beginning but now it is gone. It is ok to feel stressed and just let yourself get over it. I would simply just ask myself why I wanted to smoke (becuase I was stressed and needed relief) and then would ask if there would be a better way or another way to deal with (leave the situation I was in, go for walk, draw a picture, go online, get some ice cream, talk to a friend etc). It will come to pass but you are doing an excellent job so far! Keep it up!

God bless

I have battled with cigerettes for too long. The only way I was able to quit was by asking the Lord for help. He got me off it finally(altho i have slipped, but still..). Pray that God will give you the strength to stay off them. He will do it, if you willing to really stay off them
