In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yeah I pretty much think Bush only cares about finishing what his daddy started and controlling Iraqi's oil fields.

I mean, I'm happy he went in there to get rid of Hussein but I'm very unhappy with his reasoning for doing so.

As for oil, Iraq has tons of it, so if he invades Iraq he gets it all.
Obviously someone has lied to you about what "his daddy" started. What were you 11 when that happened?

Desert Storm was started by Saddam and it was all about getting Saddam out of Kuwait. President Bush "41" had the opportunity to press on and remove Saddam but that was NOT what the mission was all about. (I was there by the way. :) ) I guess you haven't been paying attention in history class. It may not be your fault though. I am not exactly sure WHAT they are teaching kids these days.

As for oil, Iraq has tons of it, so if he invades Iraq he gets it all.
You can't be serious. ^_^

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Eight months after the fall of his government, Saddam Hussein was captured by coalition forces near his hometown of Tikrit, where he was hiding in a farmhouse cellar, U.S. officials said Sunday. The arrest was a major victory for the coalition that has been battling an insurgency for months.

NBC News correspondents, the Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this story.

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Celebratory gunfire rang out across the Iraqi capital, radios played festive music, drivers honked their horns and passengers on buses and trucks chanted "They got Saddam, they got Saddam," as word of the former dictator's capture spread from car to car and shop to shop on a sun-filled Sunday afternoon.

I would like to thank all the Bush-bashers who have posted on this thread for revealing their true selves. They are so blind to their hatred of the president that they cannot bring themselves to celebrate the capture of one of the worst lunatics on the planet. Oh well, you don't need to apologize for this mistake. The joke's on you, because we're celebrating some of the best news that has come from Iraq in months, and you're not going to experience the fun! :D

Saddam Hussein Captured in Iraq Hideout

By HAMZA HENDAWI, Associated Press Writer

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Without firing a shot, American forces captured a bearded and haggard-looking Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) in a dirt pit across a river from one of his former palaces near his hometown of Tikrit, ending one of the most intensive manhunts in history. The arrest was a huge victory for U.S. forces battling an insurgency by the ousted dictator's followers.

How come Pro-Iraq war people are so selective in what they read from the Anti-Iraq war crowd? Someone can say " Capturing Saddam Hussein is great, he is a tyrant and needs to be brought to justice. THis is victory for mankind." and then say" I still, however, maintain my skepticism about the motives for this war." And people will respond that 'they support Saddam and just hate Bush'. Its all pretty ridiculous. NO doubt someone will take the selectivity statement I made and turn it around back to me without responding to what else I said.

Storyteller, notice the objective and non-attacking way ddlewis86 was able to respond to my earlier post about the addition to the story you posted. Contrast this with the petty and attacking response you gave, providing no response to the questions I posed and instead just attacking what I said.

ROFL.

I cannot believe there are actually people who honestly think Bush went to war because he cared about 'freeing Iraq' :D

Operation Iraqi Liberation.

Plus Bush was just finishing what his dad started.

I mean I'm glad Saddam is out of power and all.

But, now that he is captured, Saddam will live in a nice warm, cozy room, get excellent food, hot water to bath in...

Don't you think living in inhumane conditions under the ground and not being able to hurt anyone is a WEE bit of a better punishment?
This notion about the war being about oil is absurd. If we really wanted the oil that badly, we could have lifted the sanctions and purchased it. It would have been far less costly in American lives and dollars. This is nothing more than sour grapes by a bunch who can't get over losing an election

Get for free? Where exactly is all this oil we're supposed to be getting? Anyone seeing the price of gas going down? What a crock. This war was NOT about oil. Get real. M

Oil? What oil? Is YOUR oil price declining? It should be if we're getting all this oil. M

You're right about that. That's why we called this Operation Find the WMD. Oh wait, wasn't it called Operation Iraqi FREEDOM. That's right, it was.

This is like rain on a parade for the Democrats. Can you imagine the pitifulness of having to hope that Saddam wouldn't be captured, Osama wouldn't be captured, WMD wouldn't be found and the US economy would tank just so they could win an election. The economy is great, SAdam's in chains, David Kay's report clearly showed evidence of WMD programs and Osama is still free.

The Democrats only have 2 things left on their plate. Osam being free and spin, spin, spin
I totally agree with you. The democrats just want power back. Even some of the democrats like Liberman said that Saddam being out of power is a safe action for americans. Look I know we went to war because of WMD's and we didn't find them. Saddam used them on his own people. At any point he could have made them or got them from terrorists who support him and used them on Americans. Now people may say there is no link to Al Qaude and Saddam. Bologna! Why are the terrorists in Iraq now killing our troops!!! If Saddam didn't have WMD's he still would have used them some day against any nation he wanted to! What would have happened if we stood back and let Hitler do what he wanted. We would all be speaking German no doubt. A regime that is brutal and destructive like Hitlers and Saddams should not have the right to prosper when all there agendas go to killing people and the like...

Anyways, great story!

Why do you read posts and interpret them as though they said something completely different? If we purchased every drop of oil that Iraq could produce, it would cost less in dollars than it has cost us to operate the war. Moreover, it would have cost immeasurably less in the cost of lives. It's a simply math formula to check my claims.

Like I said in countless other threads, how many deaths has the US president, the CIA and US military been responsible for? When will they be stopped? When will the American people judge their own actions as much as they do everyone elses?
OK, I'll bite. How many?
