Sorry, what is a government facility? The Journal of Biological and Medical Rhythm Research?
Take care
I would be interested in reading it

Me too
Also it would seem according to the abstract all they determine is this floating cycle that appears like it loosely follows 7 days. These findings are then used to suggest sabbath influence but it doesn't appear these observed patterns rationally point to sabbath it's just the 7 day-ish theme it's riding off of.
No that is not what it says. Take care.

arctic/antarctic regions have long periods of all day sun. So what do you do in the absence of these key day markers? Does the day keep on going until the sun finally disappears? What if that day is the sabbath itself, does the sabbath go on for 6 months straight? This is something that exposes sabbath law as not universal.
It is still a 24 hour day and the 7 day week had a seventh day in Ex 20 and in Gen 2:2-3 no matter that Earth had "polar regions".

I think we can all agree to that.

God is not unclear as some purport. We are called to cease by the very word Sabbath. And the rest of the commandment tell us what we are to cease from. We are to cease from all our occupation, and unbeknownst to some, that includes religious. That is why Jesus said that ministers were breaking the Sabbath but were guiltless. Some of us have things that the Lord has directed us to do also on the Sabbath. But some of us sadly are doing ministerial work also on the Sabbath because we want to and or think it is right. We will not judge that; it is an issue though.

There are things that are needful. But Most things unless directed from the Lord can be done the other six days. By doing things that can be put off we are not resting as we should on the 7th day. The day that He sanctified, set apart for such.
True.

Rest from our secular work as we see in the Sabbath commandment Ex 20:8-11
And in Is 58:13

And a day to be kept holy , sanctified , set apart for worship - Gen 2:2-3, Lev 23:3,

And it continues in that way for all eternity after the cross in the new Earth Is 66:23 - from Sabbath to Sabbath - for all mankind.

It is still a 24 hour day and the 7 day week had a seventh day in Ex 20 and in Gen 2:2-3 no matter that Earth had "polar regions".

I think we can all agree to that.
But the bible doesn't measure days by the passing of 24 hrs, it measures it by the sun's setting. Sure, we can superimpose 24 hrs over it as a compromise but to use the creation account as our rule, with each passing day it ends with "there was evening, and there was morning..." showing us the boundaries of what makes a day compete. Day 1 also explicitly calls light day and darkness night, as well as day 4 positions the sun and moon to govern over day and night respectively.

a 24-hour system also doesn't strictly match up with a solar day since each day will be slightly off, even if in equatorial regions the sun still will vary throughout the year because the earth has a bit of a wobble to it. The best compromise would be to probably measure the lowest point of the sun as its setting substitute which would then skip night and go immediately into the rising sun. In extreme cases this would mean 6 months of light and 6 months of darkness making a solar day the same as a solar year and every 7th solar year would be a sabbath day. This is sustainable to a degree as the necessary to sustain life is still permitted by law, it would just mean a year of lighter work to sustain the necessary. But it would also make sabbath culture very different and out of sync with the rest world. It would also create issues when travelling outside the region potentially observing the sun setting thereby resetting the solar day count now inconsistent with the polar solar day count. There are workers that stay for long periods in the Antarctica then leave to their respective home countries and come back again the next season which would throw their solar day count as well as sabbath living culture.

there is biblical precedence as well to extend a day as long as the sun is still out as we see in Joshua 10:11–13 where "the sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day." I'm sure no one is suggesting the Israelites disregarded the sun's position and counted the 24 hour period instead. If they felt it necessary to declare a new day only when the sun was set on that long day, then should we not do the same when we obverse the sun in whatever region we find ourselves?

This isn't just special for polar regions or this event in Joshua but the sun is setting and rising continually from different regions of the earth so do we keep local time even if inter-timezone travel has displaced a full day? It doesn't even have to be extensive, what if I live in American Samoan islands (GMT-11) then travel to the Samoan Islands (GMT +13) which is a full 24-hour difference? It's 10 hours by ferry or about 40 min. by plane but it would displace an entire day because of that travel, literally, an entire 24-hour day would either be added on, or missed complety. Perhaps for some Samoans they may commute daily and they may be caught working on a local sabbath or resting on a local work day. This is also not unreasonable, Samoan's are dominantly Christian (from both places) and they are in fact quite religious, not to mention there is an SDA presence in both places and some Samoan's do commute from one region to the other. This is also not a product of modern technology that we can live in these far-flung places as the Samoan islands have been inhabited for 3500 years. Modern era has made the timezone slices (19th century) but no matter where you draw the lines somewhere gets displaced 24 hours and this theoretical displacement has always existed. I guess to the ancient world implicitly 0 would be in Jerusalem (or eden?), and this only is a 3-hour offset to the modern GMT system. Under that offset system, northwestern Canada/Alaska would have this 24hr displacement and would only require a step from right to left to cross over. People have been living there for much longer than the Samoan islands.

All of this shows us that the 4th commandment should not be considered universal based on regional and temporal displacments as it cannot be applied correctly to all regions and it cannot be applied correctly to all-time eras or epochs since in the modern era inter-timezone travel has become far more normal and can displace an entire day. This logic points to a localized system for both time and region which is also biblically consistent when looking at the Sabbath as a part of the old covenant system intended for the Israelites that point to the new but its requirement stays with the old.

The flight from Honolulu to Tokyo takes 8 hours 10 minutes.

It leaves at 12:45 p.m. and arrives at 3:55 p.m.

No sunset has occurred.

The day has changed according to the government of Japan.

The day has not changed according to the Bible.

Every day begins at the International Date Line and ends at that line. The Sabbath day was initiated at Mt Sinai or thereabout. As stated, the day now starts on the date line. How can anyone reconcile they are observing the correct time when the original day was proclaimed?

Another thought to be considered is when did God demand that Gentile nations observe a day dedicated to only one nation, Israel?

You don't even need to go to that long of flight.

American Samoa to Samoa. Departing on 9:15 am on Saturday and arriving 10:00 am on Sunday. The flight is only 45 min so an entire day has been displaced. Where does the Sabbath start and end here?

For baking, no you prepare beforehand, a fire in the oven or stove only if it is winter and is necessary to keep you warm and have no other means of heating. prepare wood in advance, prepare everything you need before the sabbath, Internet, I would say No, we can all skip a day of internet I think, the object is to keep from doing what you normally do and think of God, study... the day is for rest and to honour him, want to go to church O.K Your grandma needs help O.K,.. Your neighbour needs a lift to go to the hospital, O.K. all the good you do is O.K. the commandments are all about Love but try to keep the day for him and study pray.

Blessings
Thank You for your input.
I have worked in Utquiagvic (Barrow) AK.
Like today, the sun rises at 3:55 AM and sets at 1:12 AM there,
so when does the Sabbath start?
Is it at 1:12 AM on Friday morning?
And the Sabbath ends at 1:17 AM on Saturday morning?
It gets really confusing in April/May when the sun dips below the horizon for a few minutes before rising again And then doesn’t dip below the horizon at all.
like about 2-3 months with no Sabbath.
And in the winter it’s even more confusing, like a loooooong Sabbath.
In Daniel 7:25,
And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.
I have seen a number of writers proclaim this to be the Pope who claims to have changed the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday. (I don’t believe he did, but he claims he did)
And I believe it could be a serious sin to believe we have the authority to change God’s law. I have often wondered, if the Sabbath is meant for the gentiles also why it was not included in Acts 15:18-20;
Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world. Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God: But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.
Wondering why the Sabbath is missing, sure would have made it simpler if that was also included, but given the complexities of the geography with the sunrise/sunset and laws regarding what to do and not do, God in His infinite wisdom did not put this yoke on the gentiles. North or South of the 60th parallel It really is impossible to keep the Sabbath as it is commanded without changing the laws of God regarding the keeping of the Sabbath.
And I don’t believe anyone does.
Not anybody.

You are looking at a minority of people in places that were never meant to be lived at. God understands about things that are out of peoples control, He knows who is making the efforts to obey Him. They still have days, and most will observe the Sabbath from evening to evening for examples 6pm to 6pm in these areas even if its still light. What excuse is that for us where we do have normal sunsets on the Sabbath?

I provided a list of biblical things we can do on the Sabbath- the Sabbath is about honoring God Isa 58:13- we can eat on the Sabbath - God gave double portion of manna on the Preparation Day (Friday) to eat on the Sabbath. So eating is allowed on the Sabbath. To put it in modern times, we should do all our grocery shopping on Friday and prepare everything, so eating isn't a main focus on Sabbath.

You might want to do some research on kindling a fire- its a lot of work and cannot compare that to a light switch which takes almost no effort. When we start fixating on all these things we can't do, we lose focus on what we should be doing and that is spending quality time with our Creator- Remembering everything He did for us, without any of our efforts. God never wants us to forget who our Creator is, who made us and where we came from Exo 20:11- which is why the Sabbath is everlasting. Its the other spirit that wants us to forget.
Thank you for your thoughts, so I’ll add a few random thoughts of my own,
It seems like only more controversy, so if God did not mean the earth to be inhabited to the North or South of the 60th parallel, are all those people outside of the will of God? Is it possible to be a Christian in those extremes? And if God did not want the earth to be inhabited in those regions, I’m sure He would have told us. I don’t think the church got it wrong for over 1,800 years until EGW came along with her 'revelation'.
I’m equally sure we are not living in the Age of Enlightenment it’s the perilous time and the falling away Paul wrote about.
It appears your statement implies that if the amount of effort required by a forbidden task is minimal, that makes it acceptable, 'flipping a light switch is easier than striking a match or igniting a bic and that makes it ok? Not trying to split hairs here but it seems like the plain wording of the text means simply what God said, do not kindle a fire. He didn’t say it’s ok to kindle a fire if it involves only minimal effort.
If I believed the Sabbath is for the gentiles (it’s not In the Acts 15 list) also and God required us to keep it, I would never flip a light switch or turn the key in a car or pay rent for a thirty day month or use a heat source…. The list is long….. and complicated.
Unless we change God’s law.
Peace and blessings!

In Daniel 7:25,
From the research I did you can set a time for yourself, lets say from 7 pm on Friday until 7 pm Saturday. You still abide by local time and that does not change, simply use the local time as your reference. This would allow you to follow the sabbath as intended by God.

And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

the sabbath time unfortunately was changed a long time ago but it was wrong to go against God and do so. He did choose a time that coincides with the creation in genesis ( 7 day week ) we have to do His will not ours.

Many will say or think the sabbath is not important but GOD did set it apart as a sign between us and Him.

Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world. Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God: But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.

These that you mentioned;
"they abstain from pollution of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood."" are from the old law of Moses and was in part for the Jews, but these also mentioned we the gentiles were asked to follow.

The 10 Commandments are distinct, they are called the Moral laws and are eternal it is why they were written by the finger of God on a permanent medium ( stone) and placed in the Ark of the covenant. These are the covenant, the Ten commandments for which the fourth commandments includes the sabbath.

The 10 commandments are, as it is written, not burdensome. you simply need to find a convenient time for you and your family.

Wondering why the Sabbath is missing, sure would have made it simpler if that was also included, but given the complexities of the geography with the sunrise/sunset and laws regarding what to do and not do, God in His infinite wisdom did not put this yoke on the gentiles. Not following the sabbath is a change of the Laws, try your best, God is very understanding and will certainly guide you.

if you have any more questions I will gladly answer.

It's a very simple question, it can be stated this way:

For any two points on Earth
(I've used the Philippines and the east side of the USA as examples)
how does God say to determine which sunset marks the beginning of the seventh day?
_________

The answer usually given is to follow what your local government has decided. This implies the local governments have authority over days, something which many Seventh-Day Adventists are not willing to grant. I understand you are not SDA, so maybe it doesn't look like a significant issue to you

When I work in Utquiagviv, ( Barrow), Can I just decide when I want the Sabbath to start and end? Is this not changing God’s law?
To me this seems no different than what the Pope claims he did, (Change the time for the Sabbath to begin and end) God is very clear in several scriptures, the Sabbath begins at Sundown Friday evening and ends at sundown Saturday evening.
What about kindling a fire? Obviously I would die if I did not kindle a fire and buy utilities all month. Seems like more questions than answers if we really keep the Sabbath as clearly spelled out by God Without changing it to suit our desires or geography and I have never seen anyone actually keep the Sabbath exactly as God said, Never. And I don’t believe anyone actually does.

Is it possible to be a Christian in those extremes? And if God did not want the earth to be inhabited in those regions, I’m sure He would have told us.
Of course, there are Christians in those areas- God's will is for us not to sin and break His law Psa 40:8 1 John2:1 so as stated previously, Christians in those areas finds ways to obey God, rather than look for ways to avoid obeying Him.

But if one who lives in those areas can't seem to figure out a way to keep God's commandments they should move to a place where they have normal sunsets which is most of the world. We should never let something come between us and obeying God, it is breaking the very first commandment. Exo 20:3
I don’t think the church got it wrong for over 1,800 years until EGW came along with her 'revelation'.
You mean her teaching about obeying God and keeping the Sabbath that God alone wrote and God spoke Exo 31:18 Exo 32:16 that Jesus said was made for mankind Mark 2:27 and everyone. Isa 56:6

EGW is not God, but she was an advocate of obeying Him. God always sent messengers throughout the whole bible to bring people back to God's Word because He loves us and has compassion for us and sadly, this was usually the result, so nothing's changed

2 Chro 36:15 And the Lord God of their fathers sent warnings to them by His messengers, rising up early and sending them, because He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place. 16 But they mocked the messengers of God, despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against His people, till there was no remedy.

I’m equally sure we are not living in the Age of Enlightenment it’s the perilous time and the falling away Paul wrote about.
This is really a good example of what he was referring to- obeying our own law instead of God's. It's something Jesus warned about as well Mark 7:7-13 Mat 15:3-14
You still don't understand what it takes to kindle a fire- its hours and hours of work. God never said one couldn't have heat on the Sabbath or use a light, but not to kindle the fire on Sabbath- that is what's Preparation Day was for. In todays terms- do not install electricity to your home on the Sabbath- do that in the 6 days God made for work Exo 20:9 so one can have light on the Sabbath so we can read and study His Word.

Turning on a light takes no effort and allows one to read God's Word. I'm not sure you have a good idea of the character of God we are to serve. If you think God would rather us sit in darkness on the Sabbath instead of reading His Word- we must serve different gods.
If I believed the Sabbath is for the gentiles (it’s not In the Acts 15 list) also and God required us to keep it,
Most people who use Acts as an augment to not obey God never even keep the 4 things mentioned in the verse- most eat sushi and never ask for their clean meats well-done.

And if these are the only things, in your opinion, Gentile Christians are supposed to keep what a sad existence never experiencing loving God with all their heart, might and soul and not loving their neighbor as they were not mentioned either.

The apostles do not have the authority to countermand Jesus, nor did they. They were keeping every Sabbath even in Acts 15 (Acts 15:21) just as Jesus told them to observe everything He commanded them- Jesus said the Sabbath was made for man Mark 2:27 and for everyone Isa 56:6, so this argument is not with me, or EGW, the apostles or anyone advocating to keep God's commandments- but it is with God would made the Sabbath which connects Him as our Creator over of all heaven and earth Exo 20:11

No wonder why the Gentiles asked for more gospel preaching the next Sabbath instead of the next day.

Acts 13:42 [n]So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath

And why both Jews and Gentiles were keeping every Sabbath

Acts 18: 4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded both Jews and Greeks.
I would never flip a light switch or turn the key in a car or pay rent for a thirty day month or use a heat source…. The list is long….. and complicated.
Not complicated at all, only if one wants it to be, but it sounds more like similar arguments that deceived Eve in the garden
Unless we change God’s law.
Whoever we obey is who we serve so not a good idea. Rom 6:16

We either obey God on His Authority Eze 20:20 or those who changed God's times and laws we are warned about Dan 7:25 on their authority

It is well to remind the Presbyterians, Baptists, Methodists, and all other Christians, that the Bible does not support them anywhere in their observance of Sunday. Sunday is an institution of the Roman Catholic Church, and those who observe the day observe a commandment of the Catholic Church.
—Priest Brady, in an address, reported in the Elizabeth, NJ ‘News’ on March 18, 1903.

If we obey God- keep the Sabbath commandment on His Authority Ex 20:8-11 Eze 20:20 Eze 20:12. If we obey Rome, keep their sabbath and commandments. Either we are with God or by default against Him. Mat 12:30

Peace and blessings!
Thanks, but I prefer the biblical definition of what brings peace and blessings.

Peace

Isa 48:18
Oh, that you had heeded My commandments!
Then
your peace would have been like a river,
And your righteousness like the waves of the sea.

Psa 119:165 Great peace have those who love Your law,
And nothing causes them to stumble.

Blessings

Isa 56:2 Blessed is the man who does this,

And the son of man who lays hold on it;
Who keeps from defiling the Sabbath,
And keeps his hand from doing any evil.”

Rev 22:14 14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.

From the research I did you can set a time for yourself, lets say from 7 pm on Friday until 7 pm Saturday.
Questions for discussion purposes, if you wish

Is there a scripture that says the day begins at sunset?

If so, is there a scripture that says to set that aside in some cases?

I have never seen anyone actually keep the Sabbath exactly as God said, Never. And I don’t believe anyone actually does.
Judgement is based on Christ 2 Cor 5:10. He is the only one who knows what everyone is doing or not doing.

You seem to be following similar to what the Pharisees were doing, who accused Jesus and the apostles for not keeping their sabbath, which was full of rules and regulations, instead of the blessing and delight it is meant to be Isa 58:13-14 Isa 56:2 Jesus never broke the Sabbath in the Ten Commandments, but the sabbath of the Pharisees- which are not the same. Nothing in the Sabbath commandment we have to stay in darkness all Sabbath day.

God said He has a people who keep His commandments and have the same faith of Jesus.

Rev 14:2 Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.

Jesus kept the Sabbath, the apostles kept the Sabbath- His faithful did according to the commandment Luke 23:56 the bible gives us lots of examples of how one can keep the Sabbath - that's what the people of God focus on, instead of ways one can't.

Sadly though those who keep His commandments are just a remnant

Rev 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

I would consider who is at war against God's commandment-keeping people and decide which side of the war we are on.

Please Note In verse 3 that we who do believe do enter into this Rest that is the Gospel.
And this rest is called the Gospel in verse 2
No, in verse 1 the word rest simply means just that -rest, abode. And it is specifically talking about entering into "His rest" That's the rest we enter into, that's who we abode with. That's the subject. Which is actually continuing from chapter 3 and unbelief and entering in that rest. You yourself are inserting that rest is the gospel. You can't just change definitions of words.

Hebrews 4:1 "Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into His rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.

Verse 3 is simply stating that when we do believe we enter into that rest. It does not state that the gospel is the rest. Many could not enter into that rest because of unbelief of the gospel.

Hebrews 4:3 "For we which have believed do enter into rest, as He said, "As I have sworn in My wrath, if they shall enter into My rest:" although the works were finished from the foundation of the world."
Heb 4:9 So, then, there remains a sabbath keeping to the people of God.
Hebrews 4:9 "There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God."

The word for rest here is entirely different word for the usual word for sabbath and has a different meaning altogether. The words are together in the Greek- The word for rest in this verse is

4520 Sabbatismos -" as sabbatism, the repose of Christianity (as a type of heaven) rest.

It is not the word for the weekly sabbath. That word is-

4521 sabbaton, "the Sabbath, or day of the weekly repose from secular avocations, the interval between two sabbaths, etc.

So verse 9 is about the sabbatismos and not sabbaton. It's not talking about the weekly Sabbath at all.

Hebrews 4:10 "For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from His.

When we enter that rest, we cease from our own works as God did from us. That's the example. But again it has nothing to do with the weekly Sabbath. It is the Sabbatimos that remained as noted in verse 9.

Hebrews 4:11 "Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, least any man fall after the same example of unbelief."

It all ties back to verse one, if one believes, they enter that rest/His rest.

The author of Hebrews does not have the authority to countermand one of God's commandments and is not teaching we don't have to obey God the way He asks. Hebrews 4 is actually teaching the opposite.

There are two rests being referred to in Hebrews 4 which is a repeat of Hebrews 3 and Psalms 95.

Hebrews 4:9NIV the rest here literally translates into keeping the Sabbath, which remains for God's people- because Gods people keep Gods commandments Rev 14:12 and the Sabbath is a commandment of God, thus saith the Lord Exo 20:1 Exo 20:8-11- there is no Greater Authority written personally by God Himself. Exo 32:16 Exo 31:18 The Sabbath rest is according to the commandment Luke 23:56 God said He would not alter His Words Psa 89:34 nothing can pass from His law Mat 5:18

Which is why Hebrews 4:4 brings us back to what God said about the seventh day

Hebrews 4:4 For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”;

Exodus 20:8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

Heb 4:9 There remains therefore a rest (Sabbath-keeping) for the people of God.

Strong's Concordance
sabbatismos: a sabbath rest
Original Word: σαββατισμός, οῦ, ὁ
Part of Speech: Noun, Masculine
Transliteration: sabbatismos
Phonetic Spelling: (sab-bat-is-mos')
Definition: a sabbath rest
Usage: a keeping of the Sabbath, a Sabbath rest.

We are made in His image to follow Him which is why

Hebrews 10 For he who has entered His rest (gospel rest) has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.

When did God cease from His works?
Hebrews 4:4 For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”;

Hence the commandment to also rest on the seventh day, to keep it holy Exo 20:8
