You should explain what's confusing if you want clarifaction.

I stand corrected. I meant to say that Ex16:23 is the first verse that mentions the Sabbath.
Ex 16:23-26 is the first statement made about men keeping the Sabbath (I know we disagree, but honesty would not label my perspective as confusing)

THE FIRST SABBATH WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY?

Exo 16:22 - And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.

Exo 16:23 - And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.
MOSES SAID: Tomorrow is the rest of the Holy Sabbath unto the Lord.
Understand that by MOSES saying "the Shavot of the Shabbath" as what God will give and what the Children of Israel will keep every 7th day.

Exo 16:25 - And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field.
MOSES SAID: Today is a Sabbath unto the Lord.

Exo 16:26 - Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none.

Exo 16:29 - See, for that the LORD hath given you the sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.
MOSES SAID: THE LORD HAVE GIVEN YOU THE SABBATH.

Exo 16:30 - So the people rested on the seventh day.

Some people would have you believe that God gave the Sabbath at creation through Adam. They use scripture that only say God rested (not about man) on the seventh day because He was finished with all His work.
The Hebrew word for 'rested' is a verb that does not spells out a 24hr day of rest unless noted with a noun or subject.
When Moses first introduce the Sabbath to The Children of Israel, he called it:....THE REST OF THE HOLY SABBATH UNTO THE LORD.
Here in Exodus 16:29 Moses tells the Children of Israel "The Lord have given you the Sabbath. "
WHAT IS CONFUSING ABOUT THESE SCRIPTURES?

ALL YOUR COMMENTS AND QUESTIONS IGNORE THE FACTS.

The confusion is how you're trying to make the first day something that we never claimed was as a Sabbath.

We agree that in Ex 20:11 God reaffirmed Gen 2:1-3, that God rested on the seventh day of creation.
As to WHY the weekly seventh day is also the Sabbath we disagree.
The fact that God said that the Sabbath is a sign, distinguished His rest from the Sabbath. The fact that God made Sabbath a covenant between Him and the Children of Israel, blows away the creation Sabbath myth.

Moses said: This is that which the LORD hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD:

    ????

    yes. I concede.

I already clarified my error. Be yourself. God's word refutes your error.

Yes, there was a mixed multitude that left Egypt but God's promise to Abraham is why the OT follows only The Children of Israel (excluding Jonah) until Gentiles are adopted.

Don't get it twisted. My mistake was to say Ex 16:25 rather than Ex16:23 was the first mention of Sabbath. Your so-called mistake comes off as deception to say that Ex5:5 is a Sabbath text. In my view, you did not make a mistake. Your doctrine gives you no choice but to argue about unclear text. You tried to pull a fast one and got caught by the facts in the context of Ex5:5.

The next sabbath text, a seventh day text

    Exodus 16:27

The next first day of the week text, is the day that takes place at the beginning of the 7 days, or weeks, and is the first day that takes place after the seventh day of every week in this text

    Exodus 35:2-3

Exodus 20:10-11, it says God rested the seventh day. God spoke about Genesis 2:1-3 where God rested, yes? It says the seventh day is the sabbath day of God. God says that the seventh day in which God rested is God's sabbath, yes? You agree that God said, in Exodus 20:10-11 that the seventh day of Genesis 2:1-3 is His sabbath, yes?

    You said:

    Agree.

    You said:

    Agree.

    You said:

    Confused.

Exodus 20:10-11 does not agree with your statement. It says the seventh day God rested is God's sabbath. Genesis 2:1-3 is then the sabbath of God. It is a sabbath text according to God, yes?

You will correct your statement in light of Exodus 20:10-11, yes?

God says Genesis 2:1-3 is about God's sabbath. God uses the word sabbath to refer to God's rest in Genesis 2:1-3, yes?

If you do not agree, you do not argue with me, but with the text and with God who said it, yes?

Exodus 20:8-11 does not say that the seventh day becomes the sabbath day, but that it already is, and that it is His rest, yes?

Exodus 20:8-11 does not say that God suddenly rested then, yes?

Exodus 20:8-11 does not say that God suddenly blessed the seventh day then, yes?

Exodus 20:8-11 does not say that God suddenly made holy the seventh day then, yes?

Exodus 20:8-11 says that God did all those things in Genesis 2:1-3, yes?

If you do not agree that Genesis 2:1-3 is a sabbath text, then I do not know what you read in Exodus 20:8-11. It says that God's rest from work of creation in the 7th day in Genesis 2:1-3 is the sabbath.

I have seen no text which says the word, only. You can produce this text which says the word, only, yes?

I agree with Exodus 31:12-18 that the sabbath of God is a sign between God and Israel. That is what the text says. God said it, it is truth, I believe it.

Can you show me a text which makes the statement you made?

Was not the people to share what God had given them with those around them? to teach them the way of God, as a nation of kings and priests?

    Deuteronomy 4:1-14
    Isaiah 56:1-8

Exodus 20:10, provides for the stranger, and servants, and animals, yes?

Exodus 20:8-11 is plain, why disagree?

    You said

This is why confusion. One thing at a time please. Genesis 2:1-3 is connected to Exodus 20:8-11, yes?

God said that God's rest in the seventh day is God's sabbath. This means that God's rest in Genesis 2:1-3 is God's sabbath according to Exodus 20:10-11, yes?

You see Genesis 2:1-3 as not disconnected from Exodus 20:8-11, yes?

Exodus 20:10-11 is not myth. God is very clear. God says that God's rest in Genesis 2:1-3 is God's sabbath. It was the creation sabbath of God.

You see your error, now, yes?

You refer to Exodus 16:23 now, yes?

Exodus 16:23 is connected to Exodus 16:28 and Exodus 12:38 with the mixed multitude peoples, yes?

Why does God ask them, How long in regards God's sabbath if they only just heard about it?

    You said

If I am shown to be in error in the texts stated in this thread, I will correct my error. I have not been shown such an error yet. I understand you disagree with some of the texts I posted, but that does not show me in error in so posting them in relation to sabbath texts. I have shown you where you have erred, and thank you for following through with correction. It makes for less confusion in thread.

    :)

    Yes, thank you.

Do you mean I am in error? Can you show where?

What error, if you will show please? I see you make statements, but did not show where I made error, can you show?

Yes, this is what Exodus 12:38 says. Now those people were still together in Exodus 16, yes? the children of Israel are primary, but the others that came out of Egypt with them, did not vanish in the desert, yes? they are included with the people, and whole assembly, yes? God provided water and food for these also, yes?

In Abraham all nations were to be blessed, yes?

    Genesis 12:2-3
    Genesis 18:18
    Genesis 22:18
    Genesis 26:4

I understand why the scripture speaks primarily about descendants of Abraham.

    Genesis 26:5

Bible says Abraham was to keep God's commandments, yes?

    Genesis 18:18-19

Abraham was to teach his servants and children and grand children and great grand children the commandments of God, and all nations would be blessed, yes?

Was the wife of Moses not of Jacob, but was to be delivered and keep sabbath? Was not the mixed multitude delivered and to keep sabbath? Was not Rahab delivered and to keep sabbath? Was not Ruth delivered and to keep sabbath? Was not queen of Sheba to learn from Solomon to know how to be delivered and keep sabbath? Does not Isaiah 56:1-8 speak of all who would be of differing nations to delivered and keep sabbath? Does not Isaiah 66:19-23 speak of all nations and all flesh who would be delivered and keep sabbath with God?

Your statement is confusing to me.

Are you saying that Abraham was not to keep sabbath after being delivered?

    You said

Jonah preached for Nineveh to repent and turn from their sins, yes? They were to come back to God in obedience and so be delivered and keep sabbath with God, yes?

    You said

Can you show where I have twisted?

    You said

Yes, this was corrected by you.

    You said

Why do you say it is deception? That you disagree with the presentation of Exodus 5:5 as sabbath text, is not reason to discard it as so teaching.

    God sent Moses, yes?

    Exodus 4:1-31

    I accept.

    You said

My doctrine? I did not write the Bible. I only agree with what it says, you see, yes?

I understand that you do not see Exodus 5:5 as sabbath text, but offer me no reason from the text why it is not. Exodus 5:5 is not alone, but shares with Genesis 2:1-3 and all the texts unto it, and all the texts after it, yes?

I only cited Exodus 5:5 as a reference to sabbath, where people rest from work. This is not in error, yes? This is similar to Genesis 2:1-3 and Exodus 20:10-11 where God rested in the seventh day, and is called God's sabbath by God, yes?

There is no deception, only connection.

    I ask, judge righteous judgment.

    The next sabbath text

    Exodus 16:29

Special, a feast sabbath text, which is not always a seventh day sabbath

    Leviticus 16:29-31

The next first day of the week text, is the day that takes place at the beginning of the 7 days, or weeks, and is the first day that takes place after the seventh day of every week in this text

    Leviticus 23:3

Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

    What say would that be?

    Exodus 20:9
Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the Sabbath of (YHWH) thy God:

And what special Honor does God claim for Himself regarding that day?

    Exodus 20:11
For in six days Yahweh made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore Yahweh blessed the Sabbath day, and made IT holy.

    Do God's Commandments "matter"?

"what MATTERS is KEEPING the Commandments of God" 1Cor 7:19
"the saints KEEP the Commandments of God AND their faith in Jesus"
    Rev 14:12

"This IS the LOVE of God that we KEEP His Commandments" 1 John 5:2-3

"Love Me and KEEP My Commandments" Exodus 20:6

And Exodus 20:7 is the FIRST text to say "do not take God's name in vain" -- comes even after the Sabbath as it is found in Genesis 2 and Exodus 16:23

What is more it is not found quoted in the NT at all.

means nothing at all in terms of "grounds for ignoring the Word of God" as we all know.

I love how quickly that game comes to an end.

The New Covenant is given only "to the house of Israel and the house of Judah" Jeremiah 31:31-33, Hebrews 8:6-12... which means it is for all mankind who choose to be children of God - Romans 9.

I love how quickly that game comes to an end.

And of course - the New Covenant "just for" -- "The house of Israel and the house of Judah" Jer 31:31-33, Hebrews 8:6-12 which means it is for all mankind who choose to be the children of God -- Romans 9.

    That's what scripture said.

What does "the Sabbath of the Lord" mean?
The idea that It's His Sabbath because He kept it is unfounded, because it contradicts that He rested from all His work. The idea that 'He commanded it to be kept' makes it His, seems more reasonable. That fact also supports that Sabbath was made for man to keep unto God. (Ex16-23-29)

YES, according to scripture; because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made
NO, God did not say; His creation rest is the Sabbath. It says the seventh day is the Sabbath. It's not confusing to understand that: because God rested on the seventh day of creation, the seventh day will be kept as a sign of the Creator.

Obviously both the games and confusion continues with you. How? We're talking about the Sabbath, not the 3rd commandment. You just claimed Gen 2 as to where Sabbath is found without explanation. Did God rest for 24hrs in creation?

    This is the confusion.

Exodus 20:8-11 has God referring to Genesis 2:1-3 as His own sabbath, the seventh day, which He blessed and set apart, as said, sanctified, in Genesis 2:3. God states in Exodus 20:8-11 that the seventh day in Genesis 2:1-3, is His sabbath, which was blessed and made holy, as said, hallowed. God says the same again in Exodus 31:12-18.

The seventh day was not made in Exodus 16. The seventh day was not blessed in Exodus 16. The seventh days was not then sanctified in Exodus 16, it was already all those things from Genesis 2:1-3, for God says so in Exodus 20:8-11.

Jesus says that the seventh day, the sabbath of God, was made in Mark 2:27. All things were made by Jesus, John 1:1-3 at the beginning.

God made man at the beginning, for whom God made the sabbath, yes?

    Genesis 1:27
    Genesis 5:2
    Matthew 19:4
    Mark 10:6

This was why God blessed and set it apart for man, yes?

    Jesus is also man, yes?

    1 Timothy 2:5
    1 Corinthians 15:45-58

The sabbath was made for this man Jesus, yes?

    Hebrews 2:10

Hahhahahahahahahahha you have to be joking. Exodus texts reinforces creation facts, that God rested on the seventh day. Sabbath was given as a sign of God's rest.
God was wise enough to make covenants saying what He required men to do. Sabbath was also a covenant. Bible proves that It was not made at creation. No stranger to the bible would agree with your arguments. Some sheep might.

Hello Cribstyl, the statement above has no truth in it. God's 4th Commandment which is one of the 10 Commandment of God's eternal law gives us a knowledge of what sin is (Romans 3:20; 7:7; James 2:11).

God's 4th Commandment is a memorial of creation...

EXODUS 20:8-11 [8], REMEMBER the SABBATH DAY, to KEEP IT HOLY. <Why?> [Because God made it Holy for mankind and commands us to keep it as a Holy day] [9], Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work: [10], But the SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH of the LORD thy God [This is a direct reference from God's Word defining what the Sabbath is; The SABBATH = the SEVENTH DAY OF THE WEEK]: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: <WHY> [11], For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the SEVENTH DAY: wherefore the LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH, and HALLOWED IT.

    * The reason for the Sabbath Commandment is to REMEMBER the God of creation. He rested on the SEVENTH DAY of the WEEK, BLESSED the SEVENTH DAY OF THE WEEK and made it a HOLY DAY that no work is to be done. v11 Refers back to Genesis 2:1-3 and the origin of the Sabbath.

v8 shows that this commandment is a MEMORIAL of creation v11 [the reason for the 4th commandment]. Let's now look at the origin of God's 4th commandment...

GENESIS 2:1-3 [1], Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
[2], And ON THE SEVENTH DAY God ended his work which he had made; and he RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY from all his work which he had made. [3], And GOD BLESSED THE SEVENTH DAY, and made it HOLY <the 7th day>: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

Genesis 2:1-3 is a direct link to Exodus 20:11 as the reason God's 4th commandment was given in the creation week on the SEVENTH DAY.

    ................

Now take a look at the word REST highlighted and underlined in Genesis 2:2. The HEBREW word used here for RESTED is the root word used in EXODUS 20:8-11.

RESTED 7673. שָׁבַת shâbath, shaw-bath´; a prim. root; to repose, i.e. desist from exertion; used in many impl. relations (caus., fig. or spec.):—(cause to, let, make to) cease, celebrate, cause (make) to fail, keep sabbath, suffer to be lacking, leave, put away (down), (make to) rest, rid, still, take away.

The word RESTED used above in Genesis 2 is the root word used of the 4th Commandment. This word means to "KEEP SABBATH" to desist from exertion [context is work or ending work and blessing and making the SEVENTH DAY a HOLY DAY].

Now let's look at the HEBREW word used for SABBATH in EXODUS 20:8-11.

SABBATH 7676. שַׁבָּת shabbâth, shab-bawth´; intens. from 7673; intermission, i.e. (spec.) the Sabbath: every sabbath.

The SABBATH as defined in God's Word as v10 The SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH OF THE LORD YOUR GOD because God BLESSED the SEVENTH DAY in the creation week outlined in GENESIS 2:1-3 and made the SEVENTH DAY a HOLY DAY of rest [שָׁבַת shâbath] [keep Sabbath]. The word used in the God's 4th Commandment "SABBATH" means the commandment is applied to EVERY SEVENTH DAY [שַׁבָּת shabbâth].

    ................

Let's look at the scriptures here a little further....

The 4th commandment of the 10 Commandments is a MEMORIAL of CREATION and a sign to his people that they worship the only true God of CREATION. This is an EVERLASTING COVENANT between God and his people.

EXODUS 31:13-17 [13], Speak also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths you shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that you may know that I am the LORD that does sanctify you. [14], You shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defiles it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever does any work on it, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. [15], Six days may work be done; but on the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever does any work on the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. [16], Therefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a EVERLASTING covenant. [17], It is a sign between me and the children of Israel forever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

    New Living Translation
The people of Israel must keep the Sabbath day by observing it from generation to generation. This is a covenant obligation for all time.

    English Standard Version
Therefore the people of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, observing the Sabbath throughout their generations, as a covenant forever.

    New American Standard Bible
'So the sons of Israel shall observe the sabbath, to celebrate the sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant.'

    King James Bible
Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.

    Christian Standard Bible
The Israelites must observe the Sabbath, celebrating it throughout their generations as a permanent covenant.

    Douay-Rheims Bible
Let the children of Israel keep the sabbath, and celebrate it in their generations. It is an everlasting covenant

    Darby Bible Translation
And the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations -- [it is] an everlasting covenant.

Now all of this links into the next key scripture as follows

    ............................

ISAIAH 66:22-23 [22], For as the NEW HEAVENS AND THE NEW EARTH, which I will make, shall remain before me, says the LORD, so shall your descendants and your name remain. [23], And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and FROM ONE SABBATH TO ANOTHER, shall all flesh come to worship before me, says the LORD.

    ............................

CONCLUSION: Yep the scriptures are pretty clear here that God's SABBATH is an EVERLASTING COVENANT that will be kept in the NEW EARTH that began in Genesis 2:1-3 in the SEVENTH DAY of the creation week. God's 4th Commandment Sabbath is one of the 10 Commandments that give us a KNOWLEDGE of what sin is of broken.

    ................

SIN is still the same as it has always been which is the breaking of God's Commandments (James 2:9-11; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4). SIN is no laughing matter because those who CONTINUE in UNREPENTANT SIN will NOT enter into the KINGDOM of HEAVEN.

    ................

God's 4th commandment is one of the ten (Exodus 20:8-11) If we knowingly break it when God asks us not to we stand guilty before God of committing sin (James 2:8-12). If we do not seek him in repentance and forgiveness we are in danger of the Judgement (Hebrews 10:26-27)

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has led many to break the commandments of God. Jesus says that if we follow the traditions of man that break the commandments of God we are not following God (Matthew 15:3-9)

There is not one scripture in all of God's Word that says that God's 4th Commandment is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to KEEP Sunday as a Holy day.

Who should we follow the teachings and traditions of men or the Word of God? Who should we believe the Words of men or the Word of God?

    Hope this helps.

The bible has a lot to say about laughing, you should look up the word, laugh, and be humble before God.

There is no levity in sin, 1 John 3:4.

Yes, and in Exodus 20:8-11, God says that the seventh day is His sabbath which God blessed and sanctified. It plainly says, the seventh day the sabbath of the Lord.

No, it is a sign that God sanctifies, makes holy.

    Exodus 31:13

Wise enough? How generous of you.

Sabbath is the sign of the eternal covenant, God's Ten Commandments.

    Exodus 31:16-18

Where is the verses, you will provide those now, yes? I see none in your evidence? Yet, verses are cited in mine, and still to be cited.

I do not ask people to agree with me. I ask people to accept what the bible itself says in Genesis 2:1-3 and Exodus 20:8-11. That you do not accept, is not evidence against what they say.

Sheep they are indeed, for they follow Jesus, the leading Lamb, who in His example of eternal life, kept the sabbath

    Luke 4:16-19
