what I really hate about being a SAHM is when you are sick there is no break... none at all.... the kids still need to eat, new diapers and potty help, and supervision needed.... and I'm alone for at least 11 hours today depending on when dh gets off work

I KWYM!! When our DH's are ill, we are there for them and they get to lay in bed all day! But when we are ill....it's still the same old day! Get up, get dressed, get the kids fed and dressed, do the dishes, make sure the kids are safe and have an activity to do, then start all over again. Yeah sure, the chores can wait, but the kids cannot wait! I'm sorry you're not feeling well sistah! May God bless you and hope you feel better soon!

I think we all agree that this is not a great part of being a SAHM. I wish I had a good answer. I haven't figured out one yet. I wish our city was big enough to have a nanny temping service. I know you can find help temporarily in big cities....not here....but it also costs a fortune. This past week I was sick enough I would have splurged on someone to take the kids to school, activities and make some meals. I needed a clone really really bad.

We looked into a nanny...but it wasn't for us.
At least not last year...Jake still had stranger anxiety and he is just now getting over separation anxiety.
So...we may try again soon.
That, my friends, would be Heaven.
But yes, it is rather pricey. I don't want a live-in nanny though...just one that will take the kids here and there, maybe get them lunch, etc while i do my chores and go shopping for groceries.
Or on a grown-up play date!

I'm with you, I wouldn't want full time, just someone to make the meals, keep the kids on track, and get them to activities while I went to bed and got better faster (by sleeping!).

We just got a number for a 24yr old who does on-call sitting...i will have to call her!

We used to have a sitter who was in college. She got married right out. Miss that gal. She was fun too. Our kids were bulletin/door greeters for her wedding.

I would like to have my neices sit, but they are all toooooo busy! I used to sit for them! Why can't they return the favor?
Oh well....kids today! sheesh!

I know...I don't want a recession, but me thinks that enough of a crunch that people's kids aren't on constant over-programming due to a need to budget might not be so bad.

It's WAY overkill in our city.
