It was what really hooked me on anime as a teen. What I loved about it was it's serial nature - each episode continued the storyline, rather than having everything cleanly summed up as with most afternoon cartoon faire. I also respected the fact that people died in it. Battles had real concequence, unlike GI Joe where every plane had a parachute and it was more advantageous to shoot a branch over someone's head then to actually fire upon them.

I even 'put up with' the often sappy love interest scenes. The final battle against the Zendradi fleet was absolutely stunning for 'tv' animation.

Robotech's what got me into anime... Wow, ten years ago now. I found one of the novels at the library, and then found out there was a TV series it was based off of... And tracked down a friend who had it on tape, and asked to borrow. He brought me Lodoss on accident instead, and was instantly addicted. Ooops... Oh well. The wrong tape changed the past ten years of my life... Hmm. And the future, too. I'm gonna be majoring in Japanese shortly....

Actually Robotech is made up of three Japanese anime series. These series are Super Deimisional Fortress Macross, Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber Mospeda. The most popluar of the three series is Macross, which also happens to be the series that was used for the footage for the first and most popular Robotech series. I would like to see the original Macross, but I liked what I have seen of Robotech.

Southern Cross and Genesis Climber Mospeda and now on uncut and unedited DVD from ADV, but I'm not sure about the quality of the actual series or the content in them. Macross was released on DVD from Animeigo, but they aren't as good at distribution as Pioneer or ADV and their DVDs may be hard to find in stores (though I think you can still order them straight from the website at www.animeigo.com).

I LOVE ROBOTECH!!!

My friend that got me into anime got me into Robotech too. I tried to watch it at first, and man it bored me. Then I gave it a second try and got into the characters, then I loved the story. I rented all the VHS tapes of the entire series and, umm, copied them onto my own tapes (I know, it was wrong ). Now that it is on DVD I am slowly collecting the series. I have all of the Macross parts, the first season so to say.

The ruins of the Fortress in Southern Cross always confused the heck out of me so I did my research and found out it was because it wasn’t really the ruins of the Fortress. I found that the other Macross stories didn’t make sense either. I got so into it I did some digging and found out that it is a part of three completely different Japanese anime. (as Brian said). Harmony would not take Macross story because it was too short so Carl Macek put it together and changed the story to fit all three.

After seeing/buying Robotech Sentinels I wanted more. They started the Robotech story up again and never finished it so I was mad. I bought all of the books that continue the Sentinels. I started to read them but never got around to finishing them because it is kind of written in a strange style. But I still plan on readying them all one day.

I never did see Macross 7, is it any good? I loved Macross Plus. Macross 2 was a bit odd, but I liked it nontheless.

Well, Macross is my favorite part of Robotech by far. I just got into it more. I haven't seem Macross 7 either, so I can't tell you if it's good or not!

As for Macross Plus, I almost like it better then the original Macross.

Has anyone seem Do You Remember Love? Like or Dislike compared to the series.

Yes, I have that one too (Robotech fan here). I did like it, but I kind of had to take it away from the series. The characters are the same but the story does not fit into the plot of the series. I think it is worth a watch for a Robotech fan.

Maccross 7 is good, but very slow. I've heard it described as an anime fan's anime.

It gets quite super powered towards the end.

It follows Max and Miria's youngest child, Mylene. She's a bassist and singer of the band Fire Bomber. It also follows the band's lead Nekki Basara, who, like Minmei, wanted to end violence through singing. He's arrogant, and really doesn't care what anyone thinks.

I guess I can add Macross 0 to the list, though I haven't seen all of it. Macross 0 takes place before the original series. It follows the blonde guy from the original series.

Macross/Robotech, in my subjective opinion, is sheer genius, except that it has NEVER reached its ultimate potential!!!

I think its one of the most misused franchies out there. The concept of Robotech is just genius!

While much of the content is not original, it just simply blows away the competition in terms of realizing combat via fighter vs. fighter... yet it could do SO much more, somewhat like DBZ. They could bring out more of the strengths and weaknesses of the 3 forms. They could bring out the unimaginable skill of the pilots more. Hypothetically a Veritech could rip apart an entire squadron of elite American F-22's. They should make something like that! I LOVE animes where power meets reality, such as in the DBZ moments where they show Goku and his krew tearing it up at competitions.

I just like the theory of DBZ. Sure, there isn't much theory, but alot more could be explained in terms of HOW they are able to be so quick, etc. I mean, do they just have incredulously fast reflexes?

I simply love the 3 forms of the veritech. They are simply aesthetically beautiful when done correctly. GENIUS! GENIUS!

I consider the pinacle of Robotech Macross Plus. Up to date animation with a 1v1 dual experimental aircraft duel! The fight with the completely autonomous red plane!

OH GENIUS! They should have extended those scenes, doubled them!

I suppose I'm all about action and power. Yet what can beat a veritech in its humanoid form rolling while missles are spilling out by the dozens?!? What can beat a transformation mid battle for some strategic reason?!?!

OH SHEER GENIUS! IF ONLY THEY HAD MORE!

Acctually I've just been getting into Robotech, if you've seen the first episode of the Macross Saga, by the way someone said it was Super Dimension Fortress Macross but it's Macross Saga, the DVD's sitting on my sofa so it's going to be hard to convince me otherwise, anyway Wolf squadron is the first squadron ever mentioned, but never mentioned again. So that's where I got my rank/title from. Edit: my rank was orrigionally supposed to be Wolf Squadron L e a d e r, but for some reason leader shows up as ****** why do they sensor the word leader?

I rented the first two dvds with episodes 1-12 from the origional tv serese. The video store has all the way to episode 80 or somthing, and I plan to watch them all. And episode 9 is one I remember from when I was a kid, where Rick, Maxmillion, and Ben go into a Zentraedi ship to Rescue Commander Hayes, but get captured.

Man, I really got into it after Rick got promoted and the battles got more personal. In the first dvd they were all just random explosions and ships flying in every direction.

I loved Robotech so much I'm writing a fan fiction which takes place during the episodes with my own backwater characters. And I started an RP story at lucasforums.com, but I can't post a url till I get 15 posts. I can't say I understand the point of that but theres nothing I can do about it so theres no sense complaining.
