  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

hey musicians...

been playing guitars for 10+ years, and thought about getting an old mandoline from ebay and restoring it. has anybody experience with that, is it hard or easy, and is it costly or cheap ?

old mandolines go pretty cheap on ebay, but mostly need a bit of work on it.

I wanted a roundbody mando because they have better sound than the flat ones.

greetings

I've found just the opposite. I haven't found anything that can beat a Gibson F-5 or a Flatiron.

I would say to give it a go. If it is just a $200 mandolin anyway, you got nothing to lose. If it is a vintage instrument and worth some money, that's different story.

I would recommend Dan Erlewine's books/videos on instrument repair if you aren't experienced already.

This is an interesting mandolin site: Mandolin Cafe - Mandolins - Electric Mandolins
