Required Reading You Actually ENJOYED!!

I've read quite a bit about bad books that were required reading for a class. Has anybody besides me ever had a pleasant experience with assigned reading?

I really liked A Separate Peace, The Lord of the Flies, Huck Finn, Flowers for Algernon, Romeo & Juliet, The Taming of the Shrew, and Dad. (I don't remember the bad ones. I've probably permanently erased those tapes!! )

The Awakening, All the Kings Men, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Bless Me Ultima, Lord of the Flies, Guns Germs and Steel, Unexpected News: Seeing the Bible through Third World Eyes, Benedita da Silva...I'm sure there's more, but this all off the top of my head

I really enjoyed How Green Was My Valley & Macbeth.

Also The Diary of Anne Frank.

Um.... no Great Expectations was probably the best thing we had to read but the teacher quickly sucked all the fun out of that.

I liked Flowers for Algernon too, as well as Of Mice and Men, A Yellow Raft in Blue Water, The Outsiders, and A Raisin in the sun. I also really liked some short stories too. Especially The Lottery which is one of my all time favorites.

I forgot that one, too. Awesome!! Reading Of Mice and Men for a class led to my reading Cannery Row, The Grapes of Wrath, The Pearl, Tortilla Flat, and The Red Pony on my own. I started East of Eden, but never finished it.

Hamlet, Oedipus the King, Agamemnon, Tom Brown's Schooldays.

There was hardly a book in college or school that I didn't enjoy - except for our one-time descent into the murky waters of John Grisham novels in 10th grade... yuck!
