I believe it is considered a "Caucasian" trait. Some of those people lived in that area so no surprise the trait remains there. I believe a female in the royal Egyptian line also was found to have red hair and was caucasion according to the DNA tests.

There is a famous photograph of a young lady from Afghanistan if I recall correctly with stunning green eyes that appeared in National Geographic. It was taken to be evidence that the soldiers Alexander the Great's armies fathered children who left their genetic legacy to this day.

Some South Asians have naturally grey, blue, or green eyes. Same with Central Asians (e.g. Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan). Some Turkic peoples look like they could be Baltic. Others look Mongolian, or East Asian. People are diverse. Because someone has physical features commonly found elsewhere, does not necessary mean that they are a "mix". Just that certain characteristics crop up in certain populations.

Yes, they are the aboriginal people of Japan. I believe that they are closely related to the aboriginal peoples of Siberia and hence the North and South American Indian populations.
