I'm trying to decide what to read this lent. Can anyone recommend any books that you've read please?

Fr. Seraphim Rose read St. Augustine's Confessions every year during Lent -- must be a pretty good Lenten read. I have yet to get to it.

a priest I asked one year suggested St. Isaac and St. Ephraim of Syria for Lenten reading.

I was reading the other day on Light and Life that the book called Ascending the Heights which is a laymen's version of the Ladder of Ascent is good for Lent. Here's the info:

The Ladder of Divine Ascent by St. John Climacus is the standard Lenten reading. My parish reads it on alternate years. This year we are reading Dorotheos of Gaza's "Discourses & Sayings", which looks similar in approach to the Ladder.

In all truth, this is something you should ask your Spiritual Father about, as this is something that is largely determined by your spiritual maturity.

I found a "read through the Bible in a year" arranged for the OSB, but I'm already about 17 days behind for the year.

I heard the bible has some good stories in it.

I had heard something about that...actually ...there are some new(well new to me) stories I haven't read yet in the new/old OSB.

He said unless you can read it in the original Latin it loses something in translation and is a hard read. Nonetheless it is on my list of books to read before I die.

I haven't read that one in a few years, so I may read it for Lent this year.
