haha, a subdeacon is simply an in charge altar server who vests the bishop. but in all seriousness, if you do feel the call to be a tonsured reader, I would let Father know.

I wondered what his tasks were. I guess Father doesn't have that much help after all. We do have a subdeacon now but truth be told, I don't think I've ever seen him outside the altar during services.

then ask about being tonsured a reader, especially if that is what you normally do on Sunday. it can't hurt to ask.
