The question can be stated I suppose whether the coming of the Lord for His Church needs to be preceded by other events in Scripture; personally I don't see what has to come before the coming at the end of 1 Thessalonians 4.

We may not know the hour or day but we can have a good idea if we are a serious Christian. I have a good idea when the Rapture will occur according to current events. There was another poster on the thread who time frame of the Rapture was identical to mine. This is one issue that I keep to myself since there are other beliefs when the Rapture will occur. It is also amazing that many Christians confuse the Rapture with the Second Coming. I have learned over the years since becoming a Christian that many Christians have not read the NT (every page) thoroughly and with fiery passion. You cannot read the Bible as though it is just another secular book like Huckleberry Finn.
