I am a Messianic, which means Messianic Jew, but since I am not Jewish I am a Messianic Gentile. What us Messianics believe is that Yeshua (Jesus's name in Hebrew) is the promised Messiah of Israel. We are basically Christians who follow Judasim. Now to some people, espically Christians, they think that with the comming of Jesus the laws of Moses were destroyed, but that is not what us Messianics believe, because of Biblical philosophy. Anyways all in all I am a Jew who believes in Jesus. It is actully more than that, but it is kind of hard to explain, and I am not very good at explaining it written out so if you would like to know more Just come on over to the Messianic Judasim form. And/or check out our faq's at http://www.christianforums.com.au/t63396 .

Shalom

P.S.- Please come check out our faqs, because I dont really know if I summed up our faith correctly. I am fairly new to it.

Hey,

My religion is Judaism. Here is what we believe:

-G-d exists
-G-d is one and unique
-G-d is eternal
-Prayer is to be directed to G-d alone and to no other (not Mary or Jesus, etc)
-The words of the Prophets are true
-Moses's prophecies are true, and Moses was the greatest of the prophets
-The Written Torah (first 5 books of the Bible) and Oral Torah (teachings now contained in the Talmud and other writings) were given to Moses
  1. There will be no other Torah
  2. G-d knows the thoughts and deeds of men
  3. G-d will reward the good and punish the wicked
  4. The Messiah will come
  5. The dead will be resurrected

As I said, in Satanism there is a wide range of beliefs, some believe that Satan was originally the pagan god pan, but some believe Satan has appeared in very much earlier religions.
I have a few queastions about what you said. One of them is if Satan is viewd as the pagan god Pan doesn't that make it similar to wicca?Afterall the God of the wiccans is Pan...
The second question: "some believe Satan has appeared in very much earlier religions"
earlier than paganism??

It makes no sense to me to say that Satan is the same with Pan.Indeed ,one way to convert people to christianity in the early days was to quickly demonize one of the more popular Greek Gods - Pan.Some attributes of Pan were absorbed by Satan, like goat hooves, horns etc.But today Satanism and Wicca have, I believe, quite different views of Pan as a God.I have to say that your post has got me confused, really!
Would someone explain it to me please?

PS:I'm new here and I have to say I'm very happy to have found these forums - I hope the debates in here will make me understand myself and my beliefs better.

well, i think the idea is actually reverse....Satan came from Pan , not Pan from Satan(supposedly....i read that he cane from a babylonian evil God, which would make more sense due to the geographical location) I've heard this theory before, but i am not to sure as to its authenticy, when the Christian religion began the crusades of europe, one of the tactics for switching out the pagan Gods and beliefs for the new christian religion was changing them to christian saints or other christian ideas. Supposedly Pan was labeled as the christian Satan and the Christian Satan was made out to have horns and goat feet jsut like Pan to make it look like they were the same, and so that is how the christain devil got those characteristics. Though i'm not to sure of the accuracy, i've heard others on where the christian satan came from that make more sense....though that klinda makes sense too....I will do more research on this because now my curiosity has been sparked, and i would like to know which is correct if any.
Blessings,

Well my faith Judaism, contrary to popular belief is not in any way similar to christianity. Basically our faith is based on works, how you live your life and how good deeds and following G-ds law can improve the world we live in today in the here and now.
Quick question...maybe a little off topic..... I've noticed when some people post they leave the "o" out in God...is there a specific reason for this?

Hey~

According to my own research, Jewish people don't "casually" write any Name of God. This is due to the commandment to not take the Lord's name in vain.
I don't think Judaism prohibits the writing of the Name in & of itself, but there is a great deal of concern about erasing or defacing it. Because of this, some Jews will avoid writing the Name by substituting letters or syllables, for example, writing "G-d" instead of "God."

I was wondering, could any one who is of a faith not listed explain their beliefs please(or if you want if you are listed you can still post)???
I'm a Eudaimonist. While perhaps not technically a "faith" or "religion", it's certainly a worldview that contains an idea of what one's life can and would best be like. Let's call it a philosophical path.

Some features that distinguish Eudaimonism from most religions are:
  • it is nontheistic or perhaps "apatheistic" (no belief in gods)
  • it is metaphysically naturalistic (no belief in a "supernatural" realm)
  • death is seen as nonexistence (no belief in an "afterlife")
Some characteristics of Eudaimonism, in no particular order:
  • The good life is active, rational, and self-actualizing
  • It is best to heroically engage life, instead of withdrawing from it
  • The ultimate goal of life is one's flourishing and happiness
  • The meaning of life is found within one's life, not after death
  • Self-esteem is one of the most important spiritual goals
  • Moral character is necessary to provide a solid foundation for happiness
  • Friendship is basic human good
  • "Know Thyself" is very good advice to help achieve personal growth
  • A good attitude towards life is important
  • One should choose one's missions (long term goals) in life
  • One should choose challenging and worthwhile goals for oneself
  • Having creative or productive activities is important for self-actualization
  • A moral community is an important tool for personal growth

Funny thing is, I dont think when God made that commandment he meant for us to say G-d instead of God. How silly would this be? It is only meant for the purpose of not swearing while using the word God, such as God da... well you know what I mean, and also for other similiar reasons. God doesnt mind if we use his name, but he does mind if we use his name in a way that God would be disgraced or mocked by. God never said to not use his name at all, just to not use it in vain.

Whats wrong with writing God?
whats with G-d

To me, it is just as much of disrespect as anything to write G-d or G_d. What gain is it? God wants you to recognize who He is. Some people just overdo things, I feel. That scripture about being vain is taken out of context when applied in that manner.

Just think about all of the names of God in OT - over 400 of them. God purposesly revealed those names so that we could call upon him with the appropiate name to fit our circumstances. Just as a kid would call their father, daddy; dad would respond differently than if that kid called his father by his proper name. That same distinction is how God responds to us. To me, it detracts from the relationship we can have with God by putting that kind of restriction on ourselves; God did not.
