I am a Messianic, which means Messianic Jew, but since I am not Jewish I am a Messianic Gentile. What us Messianics believe is that Yeshua (Jesus's name in Hebrew) is the promised Messiah of Israel. We are basically Christians who follow Judasim. Now to some people, espically Christians, they think that with the comming of Jesus the laws of Moses were destroyed,
I realize the "rules" for this thread, however that is simply untrue. In fact we believe Christ made the law of Moses such that people could not cheat, i.e. hand a woman a piece of paper to divorce her and marry another. Jesus said you're full of it if you think the spirit of Moses law allows such. That's simply adultery.

I was wondering, could any one who is of a faith not listed explain their beliefs please(or if you want if you are listed you can still post)??? This is not going to be a debate and no bashing. I simply just want this to be a place where people can share their beliefs..not argue about them. Thankyou.

In the absence of moderator intervention, I declare myself the unofficial chief of the Topic Police.

All posts or discussions I designate as :topic: should be discontinued immediately. Everyone should then ignore them as if they were never posted. And it would be very kind of the offender to edit the content out of the post, if possible. :)

I will try to discharge my duties fairly and without bias... and I won't be too tyrannical.

As if I could be, not having any real ability to enforce my decisions...

For those who are interested in knowing, here is a little history to the reverence the Jews pay to the Name of G-d.

YHVH is the 'name' that G-d Most High gave Himself in Genesis, but first made it known to Moses.

Adonai is a word that means L-rd.

If you take the syllables of Adonai and put them with YHVH, you will get the word Jehovah or Yehovah.

As some may know, there are no vowel points in the original Hebrew. Thus, you have only consonants. Without vowels, the proper pronunciation of words becomes a matter of contention or problem sometimes.

Therefore, some have adopted (and I am not sure of the time frame) the word HaShem, which literally means the Name.

As a side note, I would really like to give a word of praise to the non-christians, and thank you for your courteous behavior and words of restraint.

m.d.

A dear friend of mine just mentioned a couple of things to me that I had forgotten. I am going to go ahead and add what she said.

...as far as G-d and L-rd, it is mainly due to the possibility of desecration. ie if someone prints out the page and scribbles it out, throws it away, etc. Also, it causes one to thing about the holiness of His name everyday you write it in that way

and here's a site for reference:

You'd be surprised how much you can learn from off topic disuccusions and debates.
You'd be surprised at how much potential is missed by threads that go off topic.

Anyway, does anyone have any questions on the religions/paths that have been presented so far?

Did people who were curious about other ways of life feel that they learned something new?

I posted it before in this topic, but people were so busy arguing over the proper spelling of God, I think most people just ignored it. :)

Or how about Zoraostranism(it totally spelt that wrong but i honostly have no idea how its spelt) I 've heard of this too but I have no idea what it is.
It's a Persian monotheistic religion that had its heyday long before Christ, but still had many followers up until Muslim aggression drove most Zoroastrians out of the area. The biggest group of Zoroastrians today landed in India. They're known as the Parsis.

Zoroastrianism is quasi-dualistic. It opposes the good God, Ahura Mazda, to a powerful, but slightly weaker, evil rival named Angra Mainyu (also called Ahriman). The two of them fight for dominance, mainly in men's hearts, although Ahura Mazda is fated to win.

Interestingly enough, Zoroastrianism had a number of elements that Judaism and Christianity seem to have borrowed. On death, Ahura Mazda is supposed to judge a man's soul - whether he has done good deeds or bad - and consigns him to either heaven or hell. (not by those names, of course, but the basic idea of reward and punishment is the same) Zoroastrians also look forward to the Saoshyant, a savior figure through whom Ahura Mazda will defeat Angra Mainyu.

The number of Zoroastrians today is dwindling rapidly. The religion prohibits religious conversions, apparently on the grounds that if Ahura Mazda wanted you to be a Zoroastrian, you would have been born a Zoroastrian.

Are you a Zoroastrian? If so, what do you believe about non-Zoroastrians and their fate in the afterlife?

Some people have postulated that the three wise men who visited Y'shua (Jesus) after his birth were Zoroastrians. This is due to the study of the stars.
Probably so. Zoroastrian priests studied astrology - they had a somewhat complicated cosmology/theology - and called themselves Magi.

Are you a Zoroastrian? If so, what do you believe about non-Zoroastrians and their fate in the afterlife?
I'm not Zoroastrian. They prohibit conversions, remember?

I'm not sure what Zoroastrians think about the afterlife. They probably think that people will go to heaven as long as they follow the three main Zoroastrian ethical injunctions - Good Thoughts, Good Words, and Good Deeds.
