  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Dr. Atkins was a self made public figure.....and made himself what seems to be a growing empire on what is just another diet craze focused solely on losing fat. There have been many victims claimed by the misinformation he made his empire off of....and you have to realize he's going to get criticism...dead or alive.
Please support your assertions.

It's a "growing empire" because it works.
People lose weight conveniently, yes. But it isn't being promoted now in every re$taurant and grocery $tore for nothing, either. Appeal to in$tant vanity and you'll get $ale$.

....spreading stories regarding his death that simply aren't true, is something totally different however.
Exactly....and what would I and others have to gain by telling the truth...when he and hi$ empire ha$ everything to gain by telling lie$?

I see that as a desperate attempt to discredit him beacause so many studies are now showing that the Atkins diet and low-carb diets are safe and do work.
Greed is the only desperate motive here...and there's no money to be gained by his opponents.....so go figure...

Yes, it's very similar to the ketogenic diet. Both are low carb diets with many similarities, but apparently the ketogenic diet for epileptics is ok because it's Dr. prescribed to treat a medical condition, where as the Atkins diet isn't ok because...well....because people and other Dr's say so! Go figure...

Here is a recent WEBMD article:

Can Atkins Help Kids With Epilepsy?
Early Research Suggests It Might Reduce Seizures, and Adults May Benefit, Too

It begins by saying:
Dec. 9, 2003 -- The controversial Atkins diet may have medical benefits beyond helping overweight people shed pounds. Early research suggests that the high-protein, low-carbohydrate approach to eating may help intractable epilepsy patients control severe seizures.

The Atkins diet is actually a somewhat less-restrictive version of the ketogenic diet already used to treat children with hard-to-control seizures. About half of children who fail anticonvulsant drug therapies experience a significant reduction in seizures while on the high-fat, low-carb, calorie-restricted ketogenic diet.

There you go. That pretty much sums it up. The Atkins diet is simply a ketogenic diet, and those have been used for various medical conditions for over 100 years (first published in 1868).

I posted quite a few abstracts about this.
