Russia commences airstrikes.

I wish them well in their endeavours...
At least we know that Russia won't be aiming for empty buildings. Their goal is actually to destroy ISIS.

That rehashed propaganda has blinded people so that they don't see that ISIS is the real enemy. Do you know anything about ISIS? Assad has been fighting against them this whole time. At one point, he had them on the run, and they would have been destroyed if it were not for the United States' obsession with trying to bring Assad down. In other words, the US is largely to blame for the explosive rise of ISIS, so it has no moral high ground to accuse Assad of doing evil.
.
Wow. designate a group "terrorists" and Americans lose all perspective, huh?

How many civilian non-combatants has ISIS killed? How many civilian non-combatants has Assad killed?

Now explain how ISIS is worse?

They're attacking one group of terrorists to defend the leadership of a different terrorist.

We can choose to ally only with the morally pure. Then, we essentially will be acting alone in world politics (well we would have an ally of two). The US acts (and should act) in the best interests of the US. In this case, it is in the best interest of the US (and of NATO, Russia, and Iran) to defeat ISIS. We are allied in not wanting a state whose reason for being is to have a world caliphate of their brand of Islamic fundamentalism, killing all who do not agree.

The world of Assad is very different. He is a dictator who is ruthless against his enemies, as many, many dictators have been over the centuries. Consider Singapore. US style democracy is speeding, but we cannot install it wherever we wish, nor would we want to.

A strong leader in the Middle East (with few exceptions) is one that can put down any opposition. We have learned that lesson in Egypt. Assad is NOT the kind of leader that we would choose. He is not the leader that the majority of Syrians would choose. However, democracy is not an option.

Russia it should be noted isn't bombing ISIS. They're bombing those in opposition to Abbas. While America is bombing ISIS.
Heard that today on Christian radio along with the Palestinian leadership saying that the Oslo accord that makes "peace" between Palestine and Israel has now expired.
If that is so, I can't help but think that's why Russia has positioned itself in Syria at this particular time.

So you're believing anti-Russian State department propaganda. OK...

That's one in the same thing. The difference between Russia's intervention in Syria and US military adventures in the reason is that Russia isn't in the business of "nation building". The US is under the delusion that it can aid a faction of "pro-US" rebels that will make Syria into a liberal democracy. Iraq already demonstrated to anybody who isn't blind how that won't work. Russia is giving aid an ally that is a major force for stability in the region.

Assad or ISIS. Take your pick. If they are both equally bad, then the only prudent course of action would seem to be to stay out of the conflict altogether.

Now explain how ISIS is worse?

Asked and answered.
