• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have struggled with impure thoughts my whole life, its been real hard. But i follow the Lord and hope in Him and His mercy. But i cannot accept what my mind thinks about, i struggle against it and always will. But thinking about something doesn't mean you must do it. I have thought about beating people us myself who have bullied me, its wrong to hurt people though so i don't do it. I'm already guilty in my mind but that doesn't mean i need to yield myself to that thought and live that way. God wants better for us all. And no one is good in Gods eyes, no one is better than another.

Perhaps a yes or no? Verses are open to interpretation and frankly I am asking for your view, not a bible quote.

That scripture describes me well as it does all people. We do what we don't want to do, but Jesus is the answer to that problem

Yes and yes again. Just because you feel a tendency to act in a certain way does not mean you have to act on that tendency. You can not choose to be black or white or male or female, but you can choose what type of lifestyle you live.
So in your opinion it's OK to be black just as long as you don't act like it? Or did you have something else in mind?

What i meant was that we choose to be sinners, we can either come to Him and hope in Him and His salvation through Christ or we can remain sinners. That's what we choose

All this talk about choosing to act correctly sounds similar to the heresy of salvation through works. Who do I go to to get his icon changed to non-Christian?

Of course you're not saying my beliefs need addressing. That's because they don't. My beliefs don't involve thinking ill of others based not on what they do but what they are. People who think as you do (I don't know how you vote so I won't assume) will vote along religious lines. They are influencing the lives of others based on their own religious beliefs, beliefs that are unproven and unfalsifiable.

The odd thing is, there are millions of religious people in this country who would vote to restrict the rights of homosexuals (and some who would restrict the rights of women, and some blacks); a number of these people probably, in their hearts, do not actually agree that they deserve this, as weathered has, it seems to me, shown. I don't think that weathered really thinks we all deserve damnation. I think most everyone knows that we don't. We are not eternally evil and there's no reason for us to deserve eternal torture. Nobody does.

I'm not going to disagree with what you have written because it is from your moral base. Those are your beliefs and I respect your right to have them. My moral base is such that God says we are all sinners and deserve damnation unless we accept Jesus as our saviour and repent of our sins. I don't claim to know what many others believe.

As a Lover of my Beloved God, I can't say enough how blessed I am to have been freed from this belief about how God thinks.

Say what? Let me try again. You can't and don't choose your race or whether you are born male or female. therefore, those things are sacred. You do choose your lifestyle, your words and actions. Does that make it more clear?

Sexual orientation =/= Lifestyle decisions.

OK, so you are arguing that a person does not have a choice as to his lifestyle? His sexual orientation determines his lifestyle? Why do you believe that?

No, he said that sexual orientation is not a lifestyle choice.

why is it not a choice? Why would a person believe he doesn't have a choice?
I like women...I have no choice in the matter. Why? Because that's how I was Created and I can not change what is.

I like women. This is not a choice that I made.

Likewise it would be impossible, for me, to 'choose' to like men. Its like asking me to 'choose' to start liking the smell of sewage.

Sorry, that ain't me. It's not a choice. It's us.

Because most people, straight or gay, don't choose their orientation and are incapable of choosing an alternative to something that is innate and can't just be willed away.

This is not rocket science.
