I doubt that, do you have any evidence to support your assertion that our military leaders are disloyal to our nation?

The case has been made that they are largely incompetent and do not get fired from making grave misjudgements and they often continue with military-industrial complex jobs after their military careers are over for the detriment of the nation. (video recap here)

Some can remember the USSR invaded Eastern Europe during WWII and annexed territory as far as Berlin, Germany. They built a wall to prevent its people from escaping to the west where conditions were better. Soviet Russians were spending much of their time standing in bread lines and waiting for other scarce goods to be offered for sale. The East German border wall/fence was called, the “Iron Curtain.” Soviet Russia funded Marxist atheist anti-capitalist revolutions around the world. The NATO alliance prevented Soviet dominance of Western Europe. Eventually the Russian people rejected Marxist atheism. The cold war thawed. Some ex- Soviet satellite nations joined NATO.

...and Putin was a KGB officer working in Dresden when the wall fell.

I suspect that Putin has done his homework very well and that NATO will find it very difficult to maintain a fully unified response to Russia. Germany needs the Russian gas from the new gas pipeline, (I think the new pipeline is called something like Nordstream 2), so Putin has chosen the timing of this situation to create the maxium upheaval for Germany in the midst of the colder time of the year and the German people needing to heat their homes, keep their major industries running smoothly and their export economy paying the bills.

I suspect that much of German manufacturing industry is geared to very heavily relying on Russian gas for their energy needs. Volkswagen Audi owns a very large chunk of europe's motor industry and borrowed large amounts of money to enable them to buy so many existing motor companies all over Europe. Their financial debt as an organisation is at the last resort a debt on the whole of Gernany. Volkswagen Audi have not been selling so many cars in recent years after being caught fiddlng the fuel economy figures for the diesel powered cars, as a result not so many people trust them enough to buy as many cars.

So the strength of the German economy is of paramount importance to the German goverment and this new gas pineline is perhaps worth being nice to Russia a bit to keep the money flowing. Russia also needs the large amounts of money, which will also need the income is coming from the gas exports, so Putin has been building in some level of dependance of Europe (particularly Gernany) on Russian gas, which will make it more difficult for europe to enact economic sanctions against Russia. Which ever way that NATO decides to play this situation, it might not play so well for Nato.

Putin may in fact get what he wants without needing to fight for it at all. He is not in much of a hurry to make a deal, but Euope, NATO and the US, will be needing that deal and eventually might be seeking terms. Putin only has sit tight and wait.

Nord Stream 2 isn't operational yet. While it's still something Germany wants, it's for longer term strategic reasons, not immediate need. IN fact, Russia probably needs it more, because of how much their economy relies on oil sales. Germany can always find oil elsewhere, if at a higher cost. Russia is not guaranteed to be able to find new buyers if Europe sanctions them.

Stalin sentenced many Christians to forced labor in Siberian gulags where many died before completing their labor camp sentences. During the 1960’s the KGB was arresting Christians and giving them harsh prison sentences. Rev. Richard Wurmbrand was in jail in Soviet controlled Romania during this time. A church group paid the Romanians to let him go free. I am not sure when the persecution of Christians ended. It was probably about 1985-1991. Gorbachev was in favor of reforms including freedom of religion. Putin has suppressed free speech. Some of his political opponents were poisoned.

The U.S. wants to oppose Russian aggression in the east, has not extended NATO membership to Ukraine.

Putin has made numerous accusations against NATO’s presence in Eastern Europe and the Baltics. This NATO presence is in defense of NATO member nations, not a plan to invade Russia.
NATO-Russia relations: the facts

Some can remember the USSR invaded Eastern Europe during WWII and annexed territory as far as Berlin, Germany. They built a wall to prevent its people from escaping to the west where conditions were better. Soviet Russians were spending much of their time standing in bread lines and waiting for other scarce goods to be offered for sale. It was about driving the Nazi vermin back to where they come from, Berlin.

Which they did with an estimated loss of 27 million lives at least.

That was then, unfortunatly they had a whacky leader and a like whacky political
ideology.

But times have changed since then fortunately.

As for the US they seem to think they can dictate Europes destiny.

As the text in a song,

"We love you America but stay where you are."

Also included in the song text,
warning,
comical,
"You gave us the hamburger, you can shove your hamburger."

If nothing else, an answer to the threat of sanctions toward any nation daring to buy
Russian gas instead of US gas.

A five year old should be able to work out that you do not cross the stream to fetch water,
in this case gas.

Russian tanks on the border are not part of a medical missionary effort to help Ukrainians believe God loves them. Solzhenitsyn described the Soviet genocide of its people in, “ The Gulag Archipelago.” He won a Nobel Prize for his writings.

China and India have increased coal consumption. China’s great leap forward to produce electric cars exceeded their ability to build windmills and solar cell arrays.

Biden weighing deployment of US troops to NATO allies: report

President Biden is reportedly weighing the deployment of U.S. troops to NATO allies amid increased tensions with Russia and concerns that Moscow is planning an invasion of Ukraine.

The New York Times, citing unidentified administration officials, reported that Biden is considering sending troops to allied countries in the Baltics and Eastern Europe, a move that would increase the U.S. military's presence across the globe at a time when diplomatic conversations between Washington and Moscow appear to be at a stalemate.
Is it any surprise that the Russians are emboldened even more after careless comments like this:

"I think what you're going to see is that Russia will be held accountable if it invades. And it depends on what it does. It's one thing if it's a minor incursion and then we end up having a fight about what to do and not do." ~ Joe Biden
Biden has been wrong on every major foreign policy decision in last 4 decades

You have to give President Biden credit for consistency. Unfortunately, he has been consistently wrong. As Robert Gates, former defense secretary in the Obama administration, once put it, Biden has “been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades.”
That comment is not from Fox news - or some right winger - the comment is from Robert Gates - Obama's defense secretary.

At least Biden has been wrong on foreign policy last 4 decade. But Trump ? Only foreign policy experience he had when he was elected; Blond woman he was marring can speak English or not?

We had four years without going into a new war, but it looks like it's going to take only one year, plus a few weeks, before the current occupant of the White House takes our country into one of his own. :(

You are right 100%.

So now , let me ask you .. what would be the correct course of action for Biden administration or any US administration?

What would have been the right course of action should be your question.

Having shown himself to be a weak and confused but headstrong novice as president, Biden has already allowed our enemies to conclude that they can do now what they knew not to do previously.

They're going to take full advantage of it too. This is their big chance. I believe once Russia begins operations in Ukraine, China will move on Taiwan. While those things are going on, I see no reason why Iran wouldn't make a move to hit Israel. We'll be so overwhelmed (actually, biden will be) that US military intervention won't amount to much. We may even become a target.
And yes, with all this going on, it will be a world war, which would be a great crisis that biden will not allow to go to waste in order to keep himself and his party in power in November.

While a possibility, I don't think the scenario is a distinct one.

Between Joe's demonstration of weakness in both Afghanistan and then his comments "small incursion" I believe Putin is testing the waters. IMHO if he makes a move on Ukraine is will be in "small incursions" that Joe will basically click his tongue and say naughty naughty.

Remember while Joe was reducing oil production here - he was increasing our purchases of oil from Russia at the same time.

The U.S. Imports Record Share Of Russian Oil Despite Tensions | OilPrice.com

U.S. oil imports from Russia exceeded last year even the imports from OPEC’s top producer and de facto leader, Saudi Arabia, which—after briefly flooding the U.S. market with its crude in April 2020—drastically cut shipments to the most transparent market to help inventory drawdowns amid collapsing fuel demand globally.

As per Bloomberg calculations, the United States imported on average 538,000 barrels per day (bpd) of oil and oil products from Russia last year. This was higher than the average American imports of oil from Saudi Arabia, which is estimated to have shipped on average 522,000 bpd to the United States.

There's got to be an object lersson in that, don't you agree? The more that Biden gives in to Putin and Xi, the more that they step up their provocations in various parts of the world.

Post # 30 you say Biden is starting a war with Russia .

Post # 35 - Biden is giving in to Putin.

You got to be extremely talented not to see contradiction in both post.

Not to maintain the Thread name is “ Positioning for military action

There's no reason for you to assume that to be so.

However, you first have to recognize that there isn't always a convenient way out of the mess some politician has created for himself by his own mistakes. Biden is a terrific example of that; and I don't think, from the tone of your reply, that you see it that way.

I didn't say that.

I said he had already done this, thus paving the way for Putin's aggressiveness now.
