Yeah, mostly enjoyed hunting for the hike and camping
Never really ever enjoyed the killing part

Now I hunt with my Nikon
Amen brother. Photography is the best way of "hunting". :) Nikons can capture beautiful images of living animals much better than a deer full of blood, that's for sure. I like how you care for nature and the outdoors sir. We need more Christians like you on this Earth Gary O.

I'd settle for a get together in the new earth, brother
Heck yeah. We would totally hang out. And we will hang out on the New Earth. :) By the way, I asked a question earlier in the thread about your thoughts on veganism, as you are vegan yourself.

S'pose I should be
Wife leans that way
I eat what she puts on the table
Heh, when she lays a chunk of sizzling backstrap on the table....it disappears rather fast

I also lean t'wards the SDA fundamentals, of which I've found to be quite biblical
But I consider all Christian faiths my brethren

Heh, most my friends are renegades
atheists, agnostics, ex-cons
Soon to be brothers is my hope and constant prayer

I understand. I am not vegan myself, but it is a good philosophy that you have due to your wife. So, what do you think about leather belts or a leather jacket? Some vegan leaning people don't like them. I think real leather, especially second hand (such as my thrifted leather jacket) is better than the plastic vegan leather.

Also, it is good that you have friends from all walks of life. All Christian faiths are my brothers also, as I am Dominican Catholic Christian.

Never really gave that much thought, or related a leatherless society to veganism

Quick reply off the hip would be, vegan or no, if a cow or beast of any kind dies a natural death, I sure wouldn't waste a good hide

Another thing about hunting
Got pretty good at field dressing and skinning, but never relished the blood up to the elbows gig
Kinda gruesome, thinking about it

Yeah. The Peta vegans are kinda extreme, so I avoid them. They don't even like second hand leather. Like come on Peta. Second hand leather is the most eco friendly clothing ever. It could last decades, and doesn't require tanning unlike new leather, or making plastic such as the vegan leather.

And yeah, blood from a deer sounds gross. We had to dissect a deer heart in science back in 6th grade. Whew, that was gross.

As far as eating things
I shy from pork and all things biblically 'unclean'
Not a religion thing per se
Just makes sense, health wise

But
If I'm invited to an individual's home, I'm eating whatever is served.

Ate quite a bit of dog when at some folk's places in mainland China

What I admired about their dining habits was not huge slabs of flesh, ever
Just little bits for flavor
Best Chow Mein I ever ate

One dignitary visited me in Oregon
Took him to a steakhouse
He gallantly fiddled with that steak, cutting it into little bits
Then took tiny bites, chewing rigorously
Told him he didn't have to finish
We both chuckled

I don't like pork that much. Dog sounds gross, just like most Chinese food (not xeno or anything, just don't like China that much, and they mistreat their minorites, though their rice is good). Steak is good stuff, and irresistible.

I sure didn't care for their regs
Couldn't just go from one province to another without proper papers
At least that's how it was in Y2K
Agreed. But now in 2023, China is a surveillance state. Much worse in the 2020s compared to 2000. Don't get me started on the social crediting system they implemented back a few years ago. Woo, cringey stuff.

So, about veganism, you have a leather jacket yourself? I have one cos it looks cool (have gotten compliments on it), and I enjoy wearing it even when it is 65°F on a summer's morning, and get cold real easily.

I do
A leather flight jacket
Picked it up at a thrift shop
Fit
Felt good
Nice pockets

That was three maybe four years ago
Have yet to wear it
Don't really know why

That is cool. Dude, you need to wear it. :) They feel so good, and second hand/thrifted leather jackets such as yours have good character. I got my leather jacket from a Latino coworker in June of '19.

THAT
Was the attraction
I would've liked to know the history of it

I need to dig it out

Thing is, I wear stuff waaaaay beyond their life
So my wardrobe ends up being pretty much what I have on

I have hiking boots that hardly resemble footwear anymore

But
They're so comfy

I owe it all to Shoo Goo
...and some really good clamps

Tread still good...that's about it

That is cool that you wear clothing beyond their lifespan. A good leather jacket like yours could last 25 years, especially when you oil it. Crazy that your hiking boots are holding up for so long.

How many pounds did you think the buck weighed? I am not a hunter either, but would love to see a 12 pt. buck.
I have no idea. It was 45- 50 years ago and I have no background in estimating animal weight. This buck must have been close to 60" at the front shoulders but I couldn't swear to that.

LOL. It's like the old original blue jeans that you had to buy too big and wash them in hot wter to shrink them. They didn't get really comfortable ubtil they were at least a couple of years old. Now I see women running around in pants deliberately tipprf and washed until the rips are dethreading.

Yup

The old button up Levis
Like walking around in stove pipes until washed 20 or 30 times
