  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When I saw this I immediate thought "that looks exactly like a deep ocean with a wave!" That is crazy how just something so regular and ordinary could be turned into something so different. It seriously looks like an ocean.

My sister had a hand in it. She took fine arts in college and I actually studied her books on photoshop and oil painting nature scenery.

I never did oil painting though.

Another thing I did with a white cotton shirt. This time I tried to make it look like an ocean rogue wave.

Thinking about it now this actually reminds me of the banzai pipeline in Australia.

One of my sister's artbooks concerned with drawing breaking surf authored by an artist who's both a painter and a surfer.

That's where I learned to get the right lighting, color, and shading to something look like breaking wave.

Since childhood, I kept having these nightmares of being overcame by something that felt and roared like a huge crashing wave or a tornado. It was pitch black and made up of pure violent, chaotic force. I think it represented the violent forces of nature. Explains my fascination and even admiration for natural phenomenon like large waves and tornadoes even though I regularly have nightmares of them! I've never seen any up close though.

Many of my pictures should depict the feeling that a storm is coming, better be prepared for it! :)

I now get that trend in your photos! I'm looking forward to seeing more of them when you have more to share. :D

It gives a whole new meaning to a picture saying a thousand words. :)

Here's some more of my own photography:

Sweet, black mamba! What kind of snake is that? Looks poisonous. Lovely snake and picture, that is brave of you to take close up shot!

Here's a picture of my dog, Tootsie a few months before I left to work overseas for two years. I would never see her again, except in dreams. The first picture I posted in your thread, that's me visiting her in her new home in a dream the same day she died and I didn't even know she was sick and dying. It's about the most beautiful thing I've seen. She's very happy there and restored to youth! I didn't wish to leave but my time hasn't come yet.

Haha! I think it's just a black racer snake. I took this (the photo not the snake lol) at the nature center. Someone was holding it while I got the shot. :) No they aren't poisonous. Even if this isn't a black racer, they don't get out the poisonous ones. Just in case. :p

Aww Tootsie was so sweet looking. :bigeye: What kind of dog was she?

Our dog Angel was a long haired chihuahua, someone stole her in 2015 off of our property. We only left her outside for a minute (like literally 45 seconds) and she was gone. She was 17 years old and barely could see but very independent and knew her way around the yard. She was such a good girl. Miss her every day.

How could that happen? Sorry for your loss. It's quite painful to lose a pet. Sure wish they live as long as we do or never gets lost (I think I may have an idea why God looks for His "lost sheep" and gives them eternal life...)! Here we closely guard our pets, most especially dogs. I live in a bad neighborhood. Half of the cases, if the dog is stolen, the dog ends up dead.

My dog is a mixed breed but most closely to a Belgian Malinois which is a shepherd dog with many traits similar to a German Shepherd including intelligence, physical form, strength, behavior, and temperament.

That Black Racer snake looks a bit like the very poisonous and very deadly Black Mamba, it could be used for some pranks but probably not a good idea!

^ Black mambas have an inked looking mouth interior, that's the really black part about them, they can be kind of gray on their exterior, I think.

With its mouth closed(where you can't see the inked mouth), it looks like some snakes!

It was like she disappeared out of thin air honestly! We were only gone for a few seconds. We feel like someone must have been in our yard, took her thinking she was a lot younger, we did hear a low rumbling of a car down at the end of our road, but with their lights off.

I totally agree with you. :) And yeah.. we also heard about a dog going missing a week after mine did right near here. So that also really made us feel she was stolen.

I love Belgian Malinois! such a beautiful breed of dog.

Haha probably not a good idea at all! :sorry:

They probably sold her, hopefully she ends up with loving and caring owners

I love Belgian Malinois! such a beautiful breed of dog.

It does! I was tempted to buy another one but I realize the breed craves for wide open space and cold climates which is the exact opposite of what we have. It gets incredibly bored when it's got nothing to do too. It doesn't want to play, it wants to work because it's a work dog breed!

Yeah I would love to have one but it needs a lot of training too and a lot of attention.

I'd love to have a Greyhound! They're lazy dogs who love to spend the day on the couch or run out in the yard and play. My kinda dog. haha

Yeah I would love to have one but it needs a lot of training too and a lot of attention.

These breeds crave for the challenge and training but one of the favorite thing she does is running (like a greyhound) but she wasn't able to as much as she wanted to because it's impossible in my neighborhood.

We did teach Tootsie the "do's and don'ts" but it isn't exactly training because she understood the simple instructions at once! It's unbelievable, I never had any experience training a dog and she learned to obey my commands with only one example, didn't break a sweat!

I didn't teach her to do the normal tricks though. The only trick I taught her is pretend K9 bomb/drug sniffer dog. So when my dad's crew comes home with their bag, Tootsie would inspect them one by one and occassionally, she'll find food which we'll promptly remove. Again she learned it once.

Later, I read German Shepherd dogs and Border Collies (also a shepherd breed) could also learn a command at once so it might be common to shepherd dog breeds.

OK, I'll post a few...

izLSe20.jpg

Bondi Beach. In winter - that's why it's so quiet.

ZIErZ1V.jpg

Singapore - just trying out night shots

e69SztB.jpg

Pretty sure you can figure out where I took this one ;)

Wow I love your night shots! I've never been good at taking nighttime photos at all. I really need a good tutorial on those. I love all three of these photos, especially the beach one. I would love to travel to that beach and take my own photos.

Question for everyone - With July 4th coming up, has anyone ever taken photos of Fireworks? I have and I'll post them in a bit, but I've never been real great at them. For anyone who has, or knows a little bit about what it takes to create a good shot like that, could you give me some tips on taking pictures of them?
