  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Wow I love your night shots! I've never been good at taking nighttime photos at all. I really need a good tutorial on those. I love all three of these photos, especially the beach one. I would love to travel to that beach and take my own photos.

Question for everyone - With July 4th coming up, has anyone ever taken photos of Fireworks? I have and I'll post them in a bit, but I've never been real great at them. For anyone who has, or knows a little bit about what it takes to create a good shot like that, could you give me some tips on taking pictures of them?

For night shots in general, you absolutely need a tripod (or at least somewhere to rest your camera). It also helps to have a remote, but if you don't, you can use the self-timer on your camera to take the shot. The reason for using the remote/timer is that you don't want to touch the camera when you're shooting, so the camera doesn't shake at all. Try F11 with about 2 seconds exposure for starters and work from there, depending on whether you want a lighter or darker shot.

As for fireworks, I work out where the fireworks will be, setup my camera on a tripod, plug in the remote and set the exposure and f-stop manually (usually F6 to F9 or similar, and from 1-4 seconds exposure depending on light) so the camera doesn't need to change them when you shoot. The last trick is to focus once, then turn your auto-focus OFF. That stops the camera from hunting around when the sky is dark trying to focus when you want to be taking a shot.

If you do this, you can then just sit next to your camera and watch the fireworks, and every time you see one you want a picture of, just press your remote button and the camera will do the rest.

I'm writing this down so I can keep it and make sure I try this out at july 4th! Thanks so much for taking the time to type it all out and give me some pointers. :)

One of my favorite pictures from one of my favorite places.

Panoramic sunset from the Cherohala Skyway near the Tennessee/Carolina border.

I mainly take pictures to capture a moment in time that I will want to remember later on. I worked for a pro photographer for a couple of years but it was honestly really stressful and I just take pics for me now.

I especially love sunsets and sunrises, as no two are ever the same.

Oh, well I meant what subject matter can you usually be found capturing? :)

I do some portraits. Landscapes, I like candid photography where I'm capturing people living life.

Also I really like that house behind her on the left. lol

It's lovely isn't it? It's the only house within two miles. (Mine is possibly the closest to it.)

This is a standing hay feild for my dry cows. There's 130 out here at the moment with the rest joining them very soon. It's holiday time for them now. They're all due to calve and start work again August/September.

Actually... I've always been curious as to know who lives in that house. I've lived out here for two years now and I haven't knocked on their door once.

Bit rude of me really.

You mean people don't routinely run out of sugar and require a sugary co-dependence with their neighbours?

My life has been a lie!

I like taking sunrise/sunset photos or that of a still sea, well nature in general.

Here is a sunset pic, one of my favorites.View attachment 200831 I also have pics of kids like my nephew and babies.

That's a great picture. Sunrise/sets over water are the best.
