  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ya, if someone is desperate, I understand they can go to extremes, but there were 4 kids involved.... You'd expect a parent to be a little more careful.
Well, maybe you would. I wouldn´t expect much from people who are in deep desperation.
(And, anyways, I wouldn´t expect people to do "background checks" on persons they have private relationships with even if they weren´t in a state of desperation. I don´t know where you come from, but where I come from I have never even heard about anyone doing so.)
If I were asked for advice, I would advice people to not move together so soon, instead of advicing them to request a background check before moving together. No background check in the world will secure your or your kids´ safety. If I wouldn´t trust a person without a background check, I wouldn´t trust them with a background check, either.

She got killed, so I'm not going to judge her too harshly, but I hope people will learn from this in the future.
Whereas I hope that people won´t base their behaviour on extremely rare negative exceptions - even though the media suggest them to be the rule.

It was a tragic story, but with a happy ending. But I'm wondering where the school was. When I was in school, it took 3 days of absence for the school to send people over to check up and see where I was. 12 days is too many.

There are people to blame. This one is not a left or right issue. It's a mother not being a mother, and school not caring issue.

It is not a happy ending to mete out justice. It is a happy ending if no bloodshed occurs, if everyone lives, and the guy gets locked away for good. What happens after that is another story.

But to view the guy getting shot, with two dead victims, as a happy ending? I may not be the best writer or gamer in the world, but even I know that's a bad ending.

Get your head on straight, kid.

Look at the title of the thread, and you will see the lie of this statement.

"get your head on straight kid"? Right

Maybe if you read my posts, you'd know what I've been saying the whole time. Don't come on here and act like the king of justice.

King of Justice?
*writes down possible fanon-Homestuck title*
But no, I'm not a king. Just someone who uses and practices common sense, compassion, and empathy for others.

Obviously you don't.

Parenting fail doesn't go far enough if you ask me. There's a lot worse things to be said.

I do. Just not for people who lack the same. Call me judgmental, but I'm just not in the mood to forgive human beings of anything today. Especially after I almost witnessed what could have been death or at least severe injury.

So forgive me if I don't share your happy-go-lucky attitude when it comes to judging a dead mother's parenting skills. Especially, I suspect, when you haven't been in a serious relationship yourself.

Ya you're right. I haven't. But I'd never let some random off the streets near my kids either unless I knew them, so forgive me for being a caring a citizen and addressing the issue here.

You're not.

You're victim-blaming a dead woman.

Don't pretend that it's anything more than that.

More on topic, it sounds to me like the guy completely lost his mind and may have been suffering from a severe mental disorder. Murdering your girlfriend... okay, that's bad but sane people will do that sometimes. Staying two weeks in the house you just committed a violent crime in while the bodies rot, with hostages who will be missed... that's not just evil, it's idiotic.

I'm betting there is more to this story. It's too early to be laying blame on anybody... except possibly the dead guy. And good riddance.

When you are in a new romantic relationship it's really easy to see the good in someone and forgive their eccentricities. I've never even considered doing a criminal background check on someone.

My ex girlfriend didn't do one one me before I first stayed in her house with her and her daughter, because it's a bizzare thing to do if you are in relationship with someone.

You are my new favorite person on this website, and I would read the [bless] out of that fanfic.

I'm a Knight of Doom, myself

I wouldn't expect you to understand how you would feel about your significant other, especially at 2 months when you're all 'high' on the good feelings of being around that person.

I don't blame her. She should have exercised more caution, but it wasn't her fault that the man she loved was a complete psychopath. People have been killed for far less.

So if you're done blaming the victim, then we can actually address the issue... whatever it may be.

The problem, again, it's the mother being a bad parent, the prison system letting out these offenders, and the school not caring enough to send someone to check up on the kids. And of course, the actual criminal.
