RIGHT because there isn't stories every few months of people being shot when doing just that.

Exactly! They just have to shout "stop resisting!", "you are reaching for my gun!", etc... and they already have the benefit of the doubt. But people are missing the point that 60 shots fired against someone is a clear intent to kill. If you want to disable someone you can take one shot to the leg. When someone even makes up a compliance excuse to justify someone getting 60 shots then even the logic of that is just wickedness. Jesus said if you hate someone in your heart then you are in danger of going to hell because that's like murder (Matt 5:22). The fact is there is an overwhelming hatred to not see a human being to shot at someone 60 times. The compliance excuse is part of the hatred because it's like you are justifying that.

Not in this case, no. But it’s clear from other incidents that US police have a propensity to shoot first and ask questions later.
Definetely more than the police in many other industrial countries, yes. But perhaps this propensity should be discussed in threads where it actually surfaced? It's not like there's a shortage of those...

After watching the news about the 4th July Highland Park shooting, plus two others in Chicago, with a total of 57 victims, plus two police officers shot, my wife said, "Who would want to live there?" If it becomes more and more unsafe to live in the United States, it might become like Outer Siberia: Everyone knows where it is but no one wants to go there.

It is really sad that many people living in the United States are terrified that they don't know that they might be the next victims of a crazy gunman.

As part of the tourist industry, do you think they will be handing out bullet proof vests to visitors from overseas as they arrive at U.S. international airports to wear while they are in the country?

well it's definitely a problem, and it's not helping the cops all the guns, you have them either so scared they kill people prematurely, or they let kids die because they are cowards. Look at this story 80 shots? Even if it was justified there is a huge issue with that many shots as that is reckless endangerment, who knows where those stray shots could have gone.

Have you watched the bodycam footage?

Jayland Walker was shot on June 27th, fleeing the police after an alleged traffic offence. His body had 60 bullet wounds. It is alleged that 90 rounds were fired at Walker in the space of a few seconds.

A firearm was discovered in his car. No weapons were found on or near the body. Eight officers have been suspended from duty.

NAACP’s president, Derrick Johnson, said in a statement that Walker’s death wasn’t self-defense, but “was murder. Point blank.”

From the Guardian article: Outrage after video of police fatally shooting Jayland Walker released

Johnson added: “This Black man was killed – struck more than 60 times by 90 fired bullets – for a possible traffic violation. This doesn’t happen to white people in America. Why do police continuously target us like domestic terrorists? We are just trying to live our lives, and we are tired of being hunted like prey.”

'Murder, point blank.' What else could it be?

Wow, so many bullets fired. That's insane.

So let me get this straight, you think American cops go around "just" shooting people for trivial reasons? Hey bud, your tailgate's out. Bang. Is that what you think?
Yep

Lots of stuff?

Did he shoot at the officers at any point before fleeing the vehicle?

So let me get this straight. You think a bunch of police literally shot someone just for a minor driving offense? Are you deliberately omitting it or are you ignorant of the fact he shot at them first?

So the suspect who was killed shot at the police first during the chase?

I thought he shot at officers then fled the scene? They weren’t (at least not all or them) to know he was no longer armed.

As it stands it seems like a pretty clear cut case of someone cashing out on the game they invited others to play.

Seems so. Once (that I can see), but at least a cursory glance at the photos it seems like the firearm’s magazine wasn’t in the weapon when discovered. So it sounds like he fired the chambered round, who knows if he would have fired more given the opportunity.

Either way it’s currently all pointing to someone forcing a situation and paying the price.

This happened about 25 mins away from me...

Other outlets are providing a little more clarity on what went down

Body camera footage shows fatal police shooting of Jayland Walker
Chief Steve Mylett said officers attempted to stop Walker's car for unspecified traffic and equipment violations, but less than a minute into a pursuit the sound of a shot was heard from the car and a transportation department camera captured what appeared to be a muzzle flash coming from the vehicle. Mylett said that changed the nature of the case from "a routine traffic stop to now a public safety issue."

So while it started out as a potential traffic stop, so for the other article to say that he got shot over a traffic stop is very misleading and leaving out some important key factors.

The moment he turned it into a "chase", it's no longer routine
The moment he (what appeared to be) fired a gun out the window...it's REALLY not routine at that point.

I'll grant that 60 rounds sounds bad, but when he had already fired a gun, led them on a chase, hopped out of the car in a ski mask, attempted to flee on foot, and the deployed tasers didn't have any effect, there's only one path of escalation from there.

And since there were 8-9 officers responding (each of which carrying magazines that probably have between 10-15 rounds each), it's not like they're going to coordinate and have "designated shooters" for such an incident when the whole "outside the car" portion of the exchange is happening in the span of 20 seconds.

Whether it was 3 officers responding firing 15 rounds, or 8 officers firing 90, the end result would've been the same... so putting emphasis on the bullet count seems like needless sensationalizing.

Ty.

Yeah, when you shoot at police while fleeing from police. It can be reasonably assumed that...

1. You're armed and dangerous.
2. You are willing to kill police or possibly bystanders to get away.

The police did exactly what they should have done.

Yeah that's not really how it works.

If you shoot at police and flee...they have no reason to believe you are not armed and dangerous unless they see the pistol get thrown from the window.

As it stands it seems like a pretty clear cut case of someone cashing out on the game they invited others to play.

I have no idea what that even means.

The amount of shots fired is strange.

It seems that every policeman on the scene wanted to empty his gun. It seems they are trained to make sure the person running away ends really dead without a hope to recover later. Not sure why. Perhaps somebody living in the USA can shed more light on this way of handling things there.

Well they were in a vehicle chase that ended in the shooter fleeing....

Perhaps adrenaline had kicked in.

So many shots must obviously be also a danger for other people around. Training should suppress instincts.

At the moment this looks justified but given how often they lie and then later get caught when actual footage shows what happened, or just outright make up stuff like uvalde, I really don't trust anything American cops say at this point.
Yeah I agree, they have been known to plant guns and drugs, etc after the fact. And did it really take 8 or 9 officers shooting to bring this young man down? 60 bullet wounds y'all! I believe they shot him after he fell. It does not take 60 bullets to stop an elephant.

I would agree...was someone else hit?

Training should suppress instincts.

It doesn't really do that though. We're talking about 100k+ years of evolution. You can't just train yourself out of it.

I do not know, but in many other cases was. The excessive amount of fired shots is just strange. Its like they thought he is a superman or something.
