Our teaching against the OSAS issue is not one against not being able to live however one wants; it is more specific than that. For anyone to have a single serious sin unresolved between God and themselves when they die is to risk eternal damnation.

So it is not about saying that the OSAS position leads to "saved" people being able to live however they wish, it is about whether one sin could eternally separate one from God. Which is why I must ask again how a Just God could punish a perfect man that committed a single sin that resulted in his separation from God and put not only his own but all of mankind’s eternal status in the balance; how could that God ignore a single sin in our lives now?

Now in accordance with what is said in Ephesians, can somebody please tell me why, if, as God's Word says, salvation is the GIFT OF GOD and NOT of works (meaning there is NOTHING you can do to earn it), why do people insist that they, of themselves and by some work of their own, can do something to LOSE what they had NO PART in giving to themselves?
There is a big difference between saying one can lose something and saying the salvation of man is a Gift from God. The very breath you breath is a gift from God. Our life, our being here is a gift from God. We did not earn the right to be born. We do not work to earn the right to the next breath. Yet we are free at any moment to throw this life away.
None of us deserve to be saved. The nature of something being "a gift" is that it is both free and not merited, otherwise it is not a gift. It does not follow from that that we cannot both refuse God Gifts or give up a Gift freely given after accepting it. Otherwise it is either not a gift and we are not free.

You know what, works is going to be burned at the last judgement.....the BIGGEST bonfire in the history of the World..."it is NOT of WORKS, lest ANY MAN should BOAST". Are you Boasting???
No, but this whole quote will never appear nor have any impact at the judgement. Christ accomplished all of what you are referring to here, but it was done for the purpose of salvation of man.
The salvation of man is what will be judged and it is all about this part of your statement..

Works....."Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the LAW of FAITH. Rom 3:27
Nice quote as long as you understand what it means. That is exactly what I have been referring to.. the law of faith. Check again what faith means. Might check the entire Book of James. It is the premier book on Christian living and on what we will be held accountable for at the judgement.
I think you will find that it is all about works. Works of faith. Works for which we were specifically created to perform.

True, there is a proverbial bonfire but it is a refining fire only for believers purification. The bad stuff will we burned but the good stuff refined. This has nothing to do with being saved as it implies and refers to those who have arrived, endured and after death.

define serious?
define unresolved?

God does not ignore, repeat He does not ignore one single sin.

Heb. 12:6 because the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son."

Once saved, we become His. And when we sin and do not confess, He will discipline believers out of love. What is the discipline for? To drive us toward confessing that we have personally sinned aginst Him.

1 Cor 11:27 Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.
28 A man ought to examine himself (to see if he is out of fellowship)before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup.
29 For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.
30 That is why many among you are weak (warning discipline) and sick (intense discipline), and a number of you have fallen asleep (death = face to face with Him = in heaven).
31 But if we judged ourselves (1 John 1:9), we would not come under judgment.

OSAS is really not the issue, the issue is living the spiritual life and if you are out of fellowship, He will discipline. This drives the believer to confess. The prodical son is a great example of this, Luke 15:11 and following.

I am frequently asked about this doctrine. In fact, I was asked about it again yesterday.

No it is not an issue over which a person's salvation is going to be won or lost so don't ya'll get nasty. ;)

But my question is to the people who think that you can lose your salvation. Now I don't need any explanations about you being able to turn from God.

Let's deal with the following:

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Pardon my ignorance,... but didn't the Lightbearer or Bringer of Light, loose what was given to him in terms of God's Grace?

God Bless

So are you saying that now that I am saved I can have a blonde on each knee, a beer in my hand and a fat cigar while watching porn movies and telling lies to those two girls that I am single; that if I die of a heart attack at that moment I will go to heaven??????????????

You could be in the middle of telling a lie and still go to heaven if you are saved. No one is perfect....I sin everyday and in the split second that I am sinning I could die. No sin is worse than the other and the scenario that you presented above is no better or worse than me calling in sick to work when I'm feeling A-OK in God's eyes. How are we supposed to retain our salvation being as sinful as we are? I don't believe that a person is really saved if they can go on living a life of continuous disregard for God's word that didn't change one bit after they said the sinner's prayer.

Why do you stop there? Why is it that you don't finish the quote in context to get the correct meaning: Ephesians 2:10 "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them."

Don't we need to take all of scripture to get the correct meaning? Here's a little scripture quiz:

Ezekiel 18:21-22, 24
“If a wicked man turns away from all the sins he has committed and keeps all my decrees and does what is just and right, he will surely live; he will not die. None of the offenses he has committed will be remembered against him.”
“But if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits sin and does the same detestable things the wicked man does, will he live? None of the righteous things he has done will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness he is guilty of and because of the sins he has committed, he will die.”
Question:
If a wicked man turns away from his sins and is justified, and then turns back to his sins, will he still live?
A. Yes
B. No
C. I’m going to pretend I didn’t see those verses

1 Corinthians 11:32
“When we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world.”
Question:
Is it possible for a Christian to be condemned with the world?
A. Yes
B. No
C. I’m going to pretend I didn’t see that verse
Extra credit:
According to the Bible, why does God discipline us?
(HINT: “To prevent us from being ___________ with the world”)

2 Timothy 2:12
“If we disown him, he will also disown us.”
Question:
If a Christian repudiates Christ, will he himself be repudiated?
A. Yes
B. No
C. I’m going to pretend I didn’t see that verse

Revelation 22:14, 19
“Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city . . . If anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.”
Question:
If a Christian takes words away from the book of revelation, will he lose his share in the tree of life and to be excluded from the holy city?
A. Yes
B. No
C. I’m going to pretend I didn’t see that verse

1 Timothy 3:6
“[A potential bishop must not be] a new convert, lest he become conceited and fall into the condemnation incurred by the devil.”
Question:
Is it possible for a Christian to fall into the condemnation incurred by the devil?
A. Yes
B. No
C. I’m going to pretend I didn’t see that verse

2 Peter 2:20-21
“For if after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment delivered to them.”
Bonus Essay Question:
If a Christian cannot lose his salvation, even if he becomes entangled in the pollutions of the world, how can such entanglement be described as worse than his first (unsaved) condition? How can it be said of a saved man, “It would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness”?

Galatians 5:19-20
“The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.”
Question:
If a Christian lives in the manner described by Paul, will he inherit the kingdom of God?
A. Yes
B. No
C. I’m going to pretend I didn’t see that verse

Romans 11:22
“Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God; sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness. Otherwise you also will be cut off.”
Question:
If a Christian does not continue in God’s kindness, will he be cut off?
A. Yes
B. No
C. I’m going to pretend I didn’t see that verse

1 Corinthians 15:2
“By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise you have believed in vain.”
Question:
If a Christian does not hold firmly to the gospel and falls away, will it be said of him that he believed for nothing?
A. Yes
B. No
C. I’m going to pretend I didn’t see that verse

Hebrews 4:1, 11
“Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it . . . Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience.”
Question:
If a Christian follows the Israelites example of disobedience, will he enter God’s rest?
A. Yes
B. No
C. I’m going to pretend I didn’t see that verse

Col 2:11
11 In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ,

We are set apart in Jesus and are able to put off the flesh not by our own works but by the works of Christ.

Col 2:13
13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins,

We are kept

1 Pet 1:4-5

2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Crace unto you, and peace, be multiplied

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
4 to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,
5 who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
(NKJ)

We ARE kept by the power of God through faith and our place in heaven are reserved for us.

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believe in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)

"If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." (Romans 10:9,10)

These verses and many other in the Word of God show us that anyone who, by faith, received Jesus Christ as Saviour has eternal life immediately. The Apostle John tells us that his Gospel was written, "that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through His name." (John 20:31)

Those who believe have eternal salvation. Jesus Himself said: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth My word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life." (John 5:24)

Can a Christian ever lose his salvation? "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand." (John 10:27,28

John 11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

John 11:26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

Faith is what it takes to receive the grace to be saved. Not just faith but faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross for our sins.

John 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

Jesus died for our sins. Moses lifted up the image of a fiery serpent in the wilderness and those Hebrews who looked upon it lived.

Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.

Numbers 21:7 Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.

Moses a type of Christ prayed for the sins of the people.

Numbers 21:8 And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.

Numbers 21:9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.

Those who look to Jesus for Salvation shall be saved from the penalty of sin. Eternal damnation. Death.

It is not just mere mental assent that Jesus died for our sins but a saving faith. After all the truth must be "received with love".

2 Thessalonians 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

Satan knows the truth but he hates it. Satan knows who Christ is and what our Saviour has done for us.

It is that type of saving faith that will save us.

Belief, belief, belief...

Acts 15:10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

Acts 15:11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

Acts 16:30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Acts 16:32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.

Acts 16:33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.

Acts 16:34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.

The Philipian Jailer heard the gospel and was saved.

1 Corinthians 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

1 Corinthians 15:2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

1 Corinthians 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

1 Corinthians 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

The entire Old Testament sacrifice points to the fact that Jesus would bear the sins of the world and that those people who placed their faith in Him and acknowledged their sinful state and need for a Saviour would have salvation.

1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Receiving Christ gives us the power to become a son of God.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

1 John 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

Believing on Christ is doing the works of God...

John 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

Jesus is the sin bearer and through faith in Him we have life everlasting.

John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

We must have faith in Him and His name to be saved.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life

THE PROCLAMATION OF GOD'S WORD

http://kjv1611.org.uk/HOW%20I%20KNOW%20I'M%20GOING%20TO%20HEAVEN.htm

"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God." (I Jn. 5:13)

". . . . I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day." (II Tim. 1:12)

Are you going to Heaven or Hell? Do you know the answer right now, or are you waiting to find out after you die? Unfortunately, most people do NOT know the answer and are waiting to see how things turn out. People are living as though the Bible had never been written. People are living their lives in uncertainty, not considering the fact that God has spoken very clearly about their eternal destiny. What about you? Are you going to ignore God's word, or are you willing to take a few moments to see for yourself that God says it IS possible to KNOW your eternal destiny?

THE POWER OF GOD'S PRESERVATION

"Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time." (I Pet. 1:5)

"Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:" (Philip. 1:6)

I know that I'm going to Heaven because GOD is preserving me. I'm not preserving my own Salvation. I wasn't saved by my good works (Eph. 2:8-9; Rom. 4:5), so I do not STAY saved by my good works. I am KEPT by the POWER OF GOD, not by my own power! God is able to keep me from falling (Jude 24), because I'm HIS child and I'm in the palm of HIS hand (Jn. 10:28-29). Ephesians 4:30 says that I have been SEALED by the Holy Spirit of God until the day of redemption! I'm not worried about losing my Salvation. I KNOW I'm going to Heaven because I'm being preserved by God's power.

THE PROMISE OF ETERNAL SECURITY

"I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." (Jn. 10 v 28 )

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (Jn. 3:16)

I know I'm going to Heaven because God has PROMISED eternal security to all who BELIEVE on His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. To "believe" on Christ is to "receive" Christ, according to John 1:12. During the spring of 1979, I repented of my sins and received Jesus Christ as my Savior. I had been lost in my sins, condemned to Hell forever (Jn. 3:18, 36). Then a man told me how I could be saved from my sins and from Hell by RECEIVING the Lord Jesus Christ. I received Christ, believing that HE ALONE could save me. I trusted in Him totally, for I knew that He was my only hope. I called upon Him to save me and He did (Rom. 10:13, 9-10). He brought me into God's family as a "son of God" (Jn. 1:12; I Jn. 3:2-3). I was a child of the devil, a child of wrath (Jn. 8:44; Eph. 2:2-3), but now I'm eternally secure as a child of God.

If I sin as a child of God, then my Heavenly Father will rebuke and chasten me , just as any good father would (Rev. 3:10; Heb. 12:4-8, but He will not condemn me with the world (I Cor. 11:32). God has promised His children ETERNAL SECURITY.

THE POSSESSION GOD HAS GIVEN HIS SAINTS

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life." (Jn. 5:24)

"He that hath the Son hath life; he that hath not the Son of God hath not life." (I Jn. 5:12)

I know I'm going to Heaven because God has already given me ETERNAL LIFE . I'm not waiting to receive eternal life-I ALREADY HAVE it as a present possession. Read the above verses carefully and see for yourself that eternal life is IN Jesus Christ, and that you can receive eternal life RIGHT NOW by receiving Christ right now!

When I received the Lord Jesus Christ as my Saviour, God placed His Eternal Spirit within me and gave me Eternal Life. As a child of God, I'm still waiting to see Jesus, to enter Heaven, and to receive my new glorified body, but I'm NOT waiting to be saved. My soul IS saved, and I know I'm going to Heaven because God has given me Eternal Life.

THE PERFECTION OF GOD'S SAINTS

"For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified." (Heb. 10:14)

"But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin." (Rom. 4 v 5 – 8 )

Have you ever heard the expression "Nobody's perfect?" That isn't true. In God's eyes, the SOULS of all His saints ARE perfect, because they have placed their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ for Salvation. Jesus shed His sinless blood to pay for my sins. He OFFERED Himself as a PAYMENT for my sin. He paid my sin debt because I couldn't. By receiving Him as my Saviour, I am also receiving the fact that He has PAID for my sins and that I can now REST in His finished work, because my sins are GONE! My soul (not my flesh) has been made PERFECT through the completed Blood Atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ, and I KNOW I'm going to Heaven!

How about the promise of death to Christians who turn away?

Quote:
***Romans 6:16-18
Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey--whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?

Romans 8:12-13
...we have an obligation--but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

James 1:14-16
...For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full grown, gives birth to death. Do not be deceived my dear brothers.

1 John 5:16
If anyone sees his brother commit a sin that does not lead to death, he should pray and God will give him life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death.***

Romans 6:16 is not about Christians who turn away but about whether or not a Christian should and can sin.

Romans 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

The verses preceding the above verse place this verse in it's proper context.

Romans 6:15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

Can a Christian sin? The answer to this is obvious.

The verses after this show that grace is a gift. A gift has no conditions attached to it.

Paul's questions are rhetorical.

Romans 6:21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.

Paul is asking why do you as Christians want to continue in sin when you know those things bring about death.

Romans 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

If a Christian can lose his or her salvation then they clearly can never have had eternal life.
