It might have been more, but I recall the number be far below 1000.
I also severly doubt that it will take 20,000 people to build the pipleline. My guess is that it will be more like 1/10th of that number.
I would not be surprised if it were 20,000 taking into account steel workers, contractors and sub contractors and probably service and support industries that will exploit the demands of the new pipeline workers as well.
I live in 'gasland' (I am the Southern Tier of NY a stone throw from PA) and you can't get a hotel room or rent an appartment anywhere here. We can't build appartments and hotels fast enough for people to rent. I bet they are throwing all of that into the estimate as temprorary as much of it will be.
