It might have been more, but I recall the number be far below 1000.

I also severly doubt that it will take 20,000 people to build the pipleline. My guess is that it will be more like 1/10th of that number.

I would not be surprised if it were 20,000 taking into account steel workers, contractors and sub contractors and probably service and support industries that will exploit the demands of the new pipeline workers as well.

I live in 'gasland' (I am the Southern Tier of NY a stone throw from PA) and you can't get a hotel room or rent an appartment anywhere here. We can't build appartments and hotels fast enough for people to rent. I bet they are throwing all of that into the estimate as temprorary as much of it will be.

Must be his secret African Muslim side coming out.

No; it's his closet Communism revealing itself again. How can you crash an economy and impose a government-run socialist police state if you go around approving projects which provide thousands of jobs all the time?

He did promise to "fundmentally transform America", did he not?

Ah yes. It makes so much sense! He, as a power hungry Communist dictator wants to exert state control over everything! And how will he get his power??? By doing things which seem unpopular in the eyes of Americans, who then will vote him out of power!

He has certainly transformed the GOP into frothy mouthed obsessives.

If anything, he has given the rest of us plenty of entertainment whilst watching those on the right go beserk over all that he does.;)

Nah. He simply waits until the country is on the brink of collapsing, then issues another of his famous executive orders that bypasses Congress because "he can't wait around for them to get things done", suspending further elections "until the crisis is past" and appointing himself as "temporary" chief executive for the duration of the trouble.

Impossible? Yeah; that's what they said in Germany in 1933. And if Comrade Obama were to instigate such a course of action, the liberals in this country would eat it up---they'd be perfectly willing to rip up the "obsolete" Constitution and hand over unlimited power to Obama in a heartbeat.

It's 20,000 employee-years, not jobs for the duration. I recall that it was basically 10,000 employees over a two-year period...so really 10K jobs for just 2 years.

Oh...and the pipeline would actually make the economy worse in the long run. That tar sands oil currently tends to end up in the Midwest for consumption by Midwesterners. Once the pipeline is finished, gas prices in the Midwest will go up because that oil is no longer being refined and distributed through the Midwest. My uncle works for a refinery and it uses the tar sands oil currently.

Anyone remember 2007?

Hugo hasn't been well lately; he underwent surgery in the socialist paradise of Cuba for a pelvic abcess last June, and has kept a low profile since. You wouldn't want Barry to endanger the delicate health of one of his closest personal allies by dragging him up to the White House all the time, now would you?

Makes sense...except I am sure that the millions of armed Americans and members of the military who would oppose such a thing would not let it happen. So if Obama even had that thought in mind, he'd be smart enough to know that there would be no good ending to it.

I haven't seen a good ending to anything Obama has done so far.

So then I guess that abomination of Obama Care isn't all it's cracked up to be if they're still using Cuba...

Perhaps it is because you are blinded by fear and partisanship? Even though I despised Mr. Bush, I could at least name a few nice things about him. Most liberals could agree with me.... For example, giving a ton of money to Africa to fight HIV/AIDS there. That was a wonderful thing that Mr. Bush did. And I can say that about a person who wrecked our economy, got us into seemingly endless conflict, allowed the worst terrorist attack in American history to occur, etc.

Originally Obama wanted to push the issue back to 2013.. after the elections naturally.

Perhaps if he had more concern for the American worker and less for getting himself re-elected we'd be in a better position today.

As it is, Canada will be doing business with China instead of us when it comes to this pipeline.

Good job Obama.

Riiiiiight. And we believe you, Barry. Sure we do. When you say you're concerned with "creating American jobs", we believe every word you say. Mm-hmm. Sure. You betcha. Absolutely.

"The last whopper I told the American people was this big!"

Given the position of Nebraska, and the insistence of the GOP to provide an answer in 60 days, Nebraska did not provide the right to pipe through their state.

Obama had no choice.

.......NEXT!!!

China already signed a contract to partner in building a pipeline from Edmonton to port of Kitimat.
Look into the companies involved in the Athabasca Oil Sands (Tar Sands). China is right there besides many of the other big corporations.

So why is it so important that a pipeline be built through the US? All of that tar sand must be refined, then placed on the world market. When was the last time we built a refinery?

Then your beef is witht he GOP, who do everything to make sure Obama has zero success in any progression of betterment for the country.

Obama killed these jobs? The GOP killed them when they didn't allow Obama to examine every angle of this proposal, disallowing any thorough, needed review of this plan to ensure quality control, alleviate safety concerns, and just plain make sure its not going to end up in a disaster like the BP oil spill.

It takes a little longer than 60 days to plan such a massive project. The GOP knows this; their plan was to a) make sure Obama didn't have enough time to thoroughly review the plan so if it passed, and when disaster strikes, they can blame him for not taking the necessary precautions. b) paint Obama as a socialist job killer when the proposal doesn't pass.

The GOP's plan is to make sure this country is in crappy enough condition come election time, they'll look like the knights in shining armor to rescue us from the very blight they created.
